A Prayer for the New Year
Loving God, thank you for the gift of a new year.
May it be a time to grow in faith and love and a time to cherish family and friends.
Walk with us each day and grant a happy year to all the world. May the light of
Christ shine through us for others now and forever. Amen
We would like to welcome back all of our students, and families. Welcome to Ms.
Terra Turgeon who will be teaching the Grade Four class for the month of January.
We are all excited to have you back at Rivier.
We have celebrated Christmas, New Years and the Epiphany of Our Lord and
shortly the Baptism of Our Lord. The Christmas Season helps us celebrate his com-
ing, recognize his presence, and await his return as we continue building his King-
dom. It is our hope that the Christmas Season provided valuable time to spend
with family and friends to reflect on the greater gifts we receive each day. May the
joy of the coming of Christ’s birth bring a renewed sense of hope and love for us
and all our loved ones. We pray for health for those who are ill and eternal rest for
those who have passed. May God continue to guide and support all of us in the
coming year. God bless.
I will be retiring at the end of the month. It has been a wonderful thirty years
teaching at Rivier. Thank you for your support and en-
couragement throughout the years. I plan to sub at the
school so that I may continue to see the smiling faces of
all of our students. I have been blessed to have worked
with so many wonderful students and families. God Bless.
I wish Mrs. Olson the best of luck , as the new principal of
Rivier! I know she will do an amazing job.

Students will be taking part in school skating (K-Grade 4) and school curling (Grade 5/6) in January as part
of the Physical Education curriculum. Students will need skates and a CSA approved helmet for skating.
The school has some skates and helmets available for use. If your child needs to borrow from the school,
please make arrangements with the classroom teacher.
Grade 5/6 students are encouraged to bring a curling broom if they have one
available.
We always welcome parent volunteers for tying skates and for driving students
to and from the rink for our younger classes. If you do wish to transport children
other than your own for skating, you MUST have a criminal record check com-
pleted and a copy of your driver’s license/package policy on file at the school.

PRAYER CORNER
As a part of our School Learning Improvement Plan, we have created a list of prayers/practices we would
like the students to learn and practice at each grade level. We have used our Religion Curriculums to help
us create our list.
As an addition to our newsletter, we will be including a few of these prayers/practices each month. We
would like you to practice at home as a family in order for your child to be more familiar with these
prayers.
Seven Sacraments - These are introduced in Grade 2. We continue to learn them and their meaning at all
grade levels following.
1.Baptism
2.Reconciliation
3.First Eucharist
4.Confirmation
5.Marriage
6.Holy Orders
7.Annointing of the Sick.
Act of Contrition (Children’s Version)
O my God, I am sorry for my sins. In choosing to sin and failing to do good, I have sinned against you. I promise, with the help of your Son, Jesus, to make up for my sins
and to love you and others as I should. Amen.
