Theeventfeaturesthebest5KcourseintheMid-AtlanKc region, a backdrop of Navy-Marine Corps MemorialStadium, and a race course through the city of Annapolis,Maryland’s historic state capital. Ripley Race also features a 6-week youth training clinic and post event party located at FadoIrishPubwithlivemusic.

Todate,wehaveraisedover$320,000fromraceparKcipaKonandsponsors.Oureventisrapidlygrowingintooneofthelargest5K’sinthemid-AtlanKcareawithalmost1,500raceparKcipantsin2015.WeareexpecKnganotherrecordturnoutthisfall.InjuredMarineSemperFiFund (IMSFF) remainsasoursolebeneficiaryof theRipleyRaceandwearehonoredandexcitedtobeapartofthisgreatcause.Started in 2005 by Karen Guenther, a nurse and spouse of a Marine CorpsGeneral Officer, the IMSFFwas created to bridge an obvious gap in financialsupportforwoundedveteransandtheirfamilies.Severalhavebeenfacedwithchallenges in adjusKng to life a`er suffering from their ailments, but throughtheirdedicatedeffortsanddeterminaKon,theyhavereboundedwithstrengthandhaveverypowerfulstoriestoshare. OurteamatTurningPointSportswashonored to partner with the Ripley family and create this fantasKc event in2009.The IMSFF is an $85million non-profit organized to assist wounded veteransandtheirfamilies.www.semperfifund.org.IMSFFhasissuedmorethan67,000grantssince2005. WiththeassistanceofourRaceOrganizaKon,TurningPointSports, Ripley Race uKlizes its own 501(c)(3), the “Cincinnatus Fund Inc.,” inordertodistributedonaKonsandraceproceedstotheIMSFF.AlthoughtheRipleyRaceisusedprimarilytoraisemoneyfortheIMSFF,wealsopaytributethelegacyofoneofournaKonsgreatestheroes,Col.JohnH.Ripley,USMC(ret.).Col.Ripleywasa1962graduatefromtheU.S.NavalAcademyandbecame a decoratedMarine through his heroic acKons in the VietnamWar.“Ripley at the Bridge,” as detailed in a diorama at the Naval Academy’sMemorialHall, displays theacKonsofCol. Ripley,which later earnedhim theNavyCross.WhileunderintenseunrelenKngenemyfire,Col.Ripleydangledforan esKmated three hours under the bridge in order to ahach 500 pounds ofexplosives to the span, ulKmately obliteraKng it. His acKons definiKvelythwartedanonslaughtby20,000enemy troopsanddozensof tanksandwasthesubjectofabook,TheBridgeatDongHa.Col.RipleyistheonlyMarinetoeverbeinductedintotheArmyRangerHallofFame.His final tours of duty included being in charge of the NROTC units at theVirginia Military InsKtute and serving as the Senior Marine at the NavalAcademyteachingEnglishandHistory.The race encompasses the core values of the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S.militaryofcourage,integrityandteamwork,andgivestributetoaMarinewhopersonified these core values. TheRipleyRacehas seen supported from thelocal Annapolis area, the greater MD region, and from other naKonal levelsponsors. This event has grown from 500 parKcipants in 2009 to over 1,500racersin2015. WeexpectthatoureventparKcipaKoncangrowtoover2,000racersin2016.
