Country Comes AliveBeaudesert Rotary - Country Music Muster & Family Fun Day

Beaudesert is pretty much your typical country town. As the centre of the Scenic Rim, it’s home to a variety of businesses, council functions, services and people. With more and more people venturing further out of the cities, it’s towns just like Beaudesert which crave an injection of excitement.

Beaudesert Rotary have been an integral part of making things happen in this town. Some of their work has been centred around the impressive Jubilee Park. Having already installed playground equipment, the group took advantage of the Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Healthy & Active Community initiative to rasie funds for, and install gym equipment. Imagine being able to go to your local park and have a workout in the open space, whenever it takes your fancy. Thanks to Rotary, this is now an option for Beaudesert residents.

The unveiling of the first stage of gym equipment was just a small part of a much larger event which saw Jubilee Park transformed into a thriving, bustling, positive place where the community congregated and celebrated.

The Beaudesert Country Music Muster & Family Fun Day was a huge event to plan. Rotary sought to bring a community together, and provide a free space for young, old, and all those inbetween to celebrate community spirit and enjoy live music and family activities.

Any event like this takes a whole lot of planning. It was a testament to community spirit that business people collaborated with Rotarians to give their services, sometimes for free, and members of Rotary worked so well together

to each play their part in the organisation.

The day itself proved immensely successful. Thousands flocked to Jubilee Park to enjoy the fairy floss, jumping castle, horse rides, petting zoo and photobooth, amongst other attractions. The fire services brought their shiny red truck for the kids to be enthralled, and businesses provided market stalls with all sorts to see and enjoy.

Punctuating the atmosphere, of course, was the music. Local acts Above photos by Oasis Langtree

were given the opportunity to showcase their music, as well as Chloe Payne having the chance at her very first public performance. Glenn Jones headlined the entertainment, with crowds descending on the park to listen, dance, picnic and participate.

The efforts of Beaudesert Rotary brought life to a town, spirit to the community, and put music in the air. The inspiration is set to continue. The Country Muster’s success has seen plans for an annual event. Nearby town Kooralbyn will also be hosting Homespun Bazaar, a handmade and homegrown themed festival of rock music, interlaced with market stalls on October 31st.

Let’s hope the community, businesses, groups and local government continue to support such inspiring events. Above photos by Reneé Barlow

F l a v o u rWhite Gold - White Gold CreameryIn the face of disaster, an entreprenurial spirit, and community minded inspiration can bring light. White Gold Creamery might have only been operating for three months, but they are proving on a daily basis how these assets can prevail.

The introduction of cheap milk seems like a small thing, but when you’re struggling to feed a family, or even yourself, the smallest of savings can be a blessing. Unfortunately, this particular blessing has a very dark and devastating consequence. The Scenic Rim plays host to many a dairy farm. However, these are fast diminishing with the ability to sustain a viable business disappearing seemingly overnight with the pressure for pricing that just doesn’t compute.

Out of this darkeness, businesses like White Gold Creamery provided a shining light. Owners Michael and Bronwyn gave up the safety of their “day jobs” to craft an artisan product from the milk provided by Tommerup dairy, and give farmers the opportunity for a fair price from their hard work and dedication.

The end product is nothing short of amazing. Not only do White Gold Creamery have an inspiring story, but they have the end result to match it. Their cheeses are

interesting, flavoursome and just plain YUM! But, what can you expect with milk from a place like the Lost World and knowledge, inspiration and an amazing entreprenurial spirit in the recipe.

SoundboardTesla CoilDo banjo and flute belong in a rock band? Tesla Coil are the band to prove that the answer is yes. Rock, afterall is about bucking trends and not being afraid to just be who you are. So, why not?

Not only do the members of Tesla Coil see themselves as entertainers, but as support to those who want to do what they do. With their classic stylings, meshed with modernised concepts they appeal to a broad audience, helping them to be heard across the board.

The band are serious about supporting the community who supports them. They recently played at the Rockin For the Homeless festival, helping to raise funds for Brisbane’s homeless. They will also play at Homespun Bazaar in October, bringing lots of excitement to a small town festival. To further their community involvement, Bassist (and flautist and vocalist) Sarah works for Moist Promotions, helping local bands to get their music heard.

Tesla Coil are all about original music. If they do play a cover it needs to be morphed into something new and interesting to be considered. They try to play wherever the opportunity

Page 19: Rimshot Magazine - Issue 5 - July 2015

ISSUE 5 - JULY 2015 PAGE 19

arises, including their own shows, festivals and opening for other bands. Their recorded music is being sent out to a host of local, national and international radio stations so listen out for them on the playlist. They also give out the occasional CD at shows, so it’s worth making an appearance when they play. There’s more in the pipeline for the band’s marketing strategy, but it’s a little to risque to reveal as yet. Let’s hope it makes a splash.

The band sees a surge in their kind of “alternative poppy rock” as they describe it, and have found other bands and people they have met in the existing industry very personable and easy to work with. In contrast to this, they see regulations on bars and clubs as well as an attitude of complacency as “affecting the viability of people who want to go the extra mile, and have a passion”. They see the solution to bringing more music into regional Australia, as promoting and encouraging festivals in these areas, or a touring festival covering serveral regional areas. This seems to be a running theme across bands Rimshot has featured. Putting their attitudes into action, they’re heading out to Kooralbyn to play at Homespun Bazaar in October which is hoping to do this very thing.

Tesla Coil have recently spent time in the studio, and their next release is due out at the end of August.

Art & SoulBreath of Fresh Air - Faram CustomsBorn in Albury in 1977, and moved to Queensland in 1986, Jason Faram is a self-taught artist. Having started in tattooing, an injury saw him having to give up his first artistic endeavour, for the airbrush where he now makes his expressive impression.

With current technology, his audience is now worldwide. He gives his time to chat and share tips and tricks with people from all walks off life, around the world.

Jason feels that some people are just artists, He took his passion and put in the effort to learn the basics and develop the skills he required. Most of his work is seen on social networking, but some of his art is on people so he has some walking, talking canvases.

With twenty tattoos that he has done on himself, as well as a twelve hour trophy winning chest piece on his partner Kelly, Jason always has a portfolio on hand. A lot of his art is commission based, so it holds special meaning for the client. Jason sees it as a honour to paint on peoples cars, bikes and bodies.

While Jason loves what he does. He is challenged by attitudes that art is just for fun or a hobby. This makes it difficult to make a living, but for him as for most true artists, it’s about being able to do a job they love.
