Your Club Can Make a Difference
As with the past several years, the Kansas 4-H program will be participating in the National 48 Hours of 4-H
initiative. During the weekend of October 7-8, 2017 we encourage 4-Hers to give back to their communities
though service communities. One opportunity to get involved would be to join the “Clean up Rock Springs”
initiative, taking place on Saturday, October 7, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (See Flyer on page 7) Please contact
Mr. Jobe at the Riley County Extension office if your club would be willing to get involved with a service
project 785-537-6350.
Your 4-H Goals for This Year
Goals should be set at the beginning of the 4-H year because they teach decision-making and allow the 4-Hers
to plan their own learning experiences. Goals tell what you plan to learn, make or do.
Your goals should be detailed enough to keep the project on track and to evaluate your progress; flexible
enough to grow with the project and to determine when you have reached a stopping point or need to change
directions. Be thinking about what 4-H goals you would like to set for this new 4-H year!
Leaders and Parents (Continued)
Consider in October

Finalize plans for Club Achievement Celebration
Explain, promote and attend County Achievement Celebration on November 5, starting at 3:00 p.m. out at
Pottorf Hall in CiCo Park, popcorn and snacks to follow.
Install new officers & recognize new members
Create club goals for the new year
Have members sign up for club committees
Turn in 5 Club Council Representatives by October 27.
Send club photos to the Extension office for use at the County-Wide Achievement Celebration.
Additional Resources In an attempt to help our Riley County 4-H families navigate the sometimes confusing world of 4-H, we have
created the ‘New Families Handbook’ and the ‘4-H Club Handbook’. Both documents can be found on our
website at www.riley.ksu.edu 4-H Youth DevelopmentForms and ResourcesClub Leader Information.
Welcoming New Families As new families come into your club, please make sure you have assigned someone to greet these families and
make them feel welcome. Feeling welcome can be the difference between a family staying with the 4-H
program for years to come, or dropping out after a few meetings.
