What is a Title I School?

A school that receives funding from the U.S. Department of Education to meet the needs of at-risk and low-income students

Title I

• Nation’s oldest and largest federally funded program

• Must meet certain requirements set forth by the government to continue receiving funding

What is the purpose of Title I

“…to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.”

How is a school identified as being Title I?

• Large concentration of low income students– Based on free and reduced lunch numbers

• Minimum of 40% of students must be enrolled in free and reduced lunch

How are funds spent at SWLE?

• Teacher salaries• Balance spent on things such as the following:

technology equipment, books, computer software

• Parent Involvement

What are the requirements that SWLE must meet to remain Title I?

• 40% of students must receive free or reduced lunch

• Complete an annual comprehensive Needs Assessment (sent out in October 2012)

• Complete a comprehensive plan using the results of the needs assessment

• Create a Parent Involvement Plan based on the results of the needs assessment

A School Wide Program Must Have:

• School Wide Reform Strategies• Instruction by Highly Qualified Teachers• Parental Involvement• Additional Support for Students• Transition Activities for Preschool Students

In grades 3 through 5 the percentage of students who meet or exceed on the math portion of the CRCT will increase by a minimum of 3%.
