RIGHT HERE IN PARADISE…WHAT’S HAPPENING INSIDE THE GATES

A New LookHave you noticed the change in the VGRC Community Association’s logo? We’ve revamped the logo and many aspects of our communications to further reflect what our organization does. The new design took the previous logo as a starting point and added our key mission statement, which is all about “Preserving Your Paradise.” As you know, we work with government officials to make sure your property values are protected, and your living environment is the best it can be. We also put on many events in the Venetian for your education and enjoyment. Therefore, we felt “Preserving Your Paradise” should be an integral part of the logo - and of course, this new slogan also ties into our key publication-Parcels from Paradise. In addition, the logo was enhanced with vibrant colors, reflecting the vibrancy of our community and the optimism we all have for it, and for life! We’ve also enhanced our web site, www.vgrcca.us. GOLF CLUB UPDATEParcels indicated it would provide an update of the sale of the Golf Club and Welcome Center. We wish we had some new

news, but according to an email conversation with a Lennar corporate executive, nothing has changed regarding the sale of

either building. However, one of the bright spots is that there have been some positive internal changes over the summer that

were brought on by an Ad Hoc committee of golf members working with Lennar management. Parcels is closely monitoring

the sale of the Welcome Center and Golf Club and will provide any new information as available.

Can You Help with Flag Placement to Honor our Vets? With Veteran’s Day approaching in November, the VGRC Community Association is holding its flag placement project placing American flags at every street corner throughout the Venetian. If you want to volunteer for this worthy and patriotic project, come to the front gate area on Friday, November 8th, 8:30 am. The task takes about 30 minutes and includes picking up the flags that following Tuesday. This is just one more opportunity to help your community as well as recognize those who have served our great country.

Own a Golf Cart….. Better Read ThisIt was brought to Parcels attention about an incident in one our resident’s homes where the Venice Fire Department was called in response to the CO alarm sounding in the middle of the night. The VFD traced it to the garaged golf cart. The fumes from the batteries went through the AC vents causing the alarm to sound. Parcels contacted the VFD about this call. They stated that “Upon arrival and the use of equipment carried on the Engine, they were able to determine that high and unsafe levels of poisonous gas was being emitted from overcharged batteries in the golf cart. Overcharging the batteries gives off hydrogen gas. This gas is odorless and colorless and is considered an asphyxiate. Newer golf carts and chargers are designed to automatically shut off the charging system at a certain level. Older carts and chargers have to be manually turned off or unplugged. Our recommendations are to ensure that the garage door is left open when charging carts for proper ventilation and ensure your home has the proper detectors installed. Carbon monoxide detectors will activate upon sensing high levels of hydrogen gas as such was the case on this particular call.”Parcels also contacted Affordable Golf Cars a reputable and longtime golf cart specialist who indicated that there are many factors that might cause the above situation including the age of the battery, the age of the golf cart as well as the air tightness of the garage. Parcels suggests if you have further questions on battery issues, contact your Golf Cart provider.

Community Association Changes Meeting DayThe Community Association has changed its meeting dates to the third Tuesday of the month. The meetings are scheduled for 3 pm and are held at the River Club. All are welcome to attend.

Laurel Road CleanupThe VGRCCA has undertaken for a number of years “Cleanup” Laurel Road. Pictured are a few of the volunteers for the October cleanup. This bi-monthly project is held on a Monday and relies on residents to pitch in and give some volunteer time to their community. The specific date and time for the Laurel Road Cleanup scheduled for December will be in the November edition of Parcels.

Tuesday, November 5…. Venetians VoteIf you haven’t circled November 5th, do so NOW. It’s Election Day and if you are registered to vote in Florida you are eligible to vote in the all-important Venice City Council race. Our community’s track record for voting is one of the highest in the county. Yes, we do make a difference in who gets in! Venetian voters vote at the River Club which opens on that day at 7 am and closes at 7 pm. The VGRC Community Association also wants to thank those many residents who attended the Candidate Forum in early October. The picture shows the standing room only crowd at this annual event.

Supporting Your Community AssociationIt’s That Time AgainYou will shortly be receiving an email noting the status of your membership in the Venetian Golf & River Club Community Association. We sincerely thank all of those who are members (see the attached list of the overwhelming number of residents who help support our mission and activities). We hope that any resident who is not a current member or who is due to renew will consider joining the Community Association for 2020 and beyond. The Community Association is a totally volunteer organization, distinct from the POA or CDD. Our mission is to preserve your paradise by interfacing with the local government, attending and speaking at City Council Meetings and meeting privately with government officials on key issues “outside the gates,” such as ensuring our local waterways are clean and beautiful, helping prevent overdevelopment, and reacting to any potential activity that can have an impact on your property value. The Community Association also runs important initiatives inside the gates. These include the Hurricane Readiness Team and CPR training, activities to make your life easier, such as Shredfest and Bike-O-Rama, and presentations on a variety of topics to keep you up to date and informed. We also publish this ever-popular Parcels from Paradise. A membership enrollment form with instructions on how to renew/join is included in this edition of Parcels from Paradise and on our website using this link; https://www.vgrcca.us/membership/

Parkinson’s Moving Day Join your fellow Venetians on Saturday, November 2nd to walk and help raise funds to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. “Moving Day” will be held at Maxine Barritt Park in Venice. Chalk It UpThe annual and amazing Chalk Festival will be at the Venice Airport from November 15-18th. Pavement artists, as they are called, come from the four corners of the world to participate in this fun event. Volunteer opportunities exist. Details can be found at https://chalkfestival.org

Simply an Awesome Restaurant

Parcels occasionally comes across a restaurant that is simply marvelous. This time it is

Marcello Ristorante Italiano located at 4155 Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. Phone number is

941-921-6794. Here’s the catch. This place has only 35 seats so if you plan to enjoy their

wonderful lamb chops ,you better call weeks ahead to make a reservation. The menu

changes every day and is written on a moving blackboard. Their wine “cellar” has every

imaginable wine around. We assure you that you will have a meal to remember…..assuming

you get in to enjoy it!

It's a Hit….One More Farmer’s Market

Many frequent Venice’s Farmer Market on Saturday, but recently announced is another market being held of all places, at

“Cool Today Park”, the spring training home of the Atlanta Braves. It is held every Wednesday, from 8 am to noon running

from October to March. To google map it, put in 18800 S. West Villages Parkway.

WHAT’S HAPPENING OUTSIDE THE GATESHotter than You know What….In Fact, Maybe HotterThe Herald Tribune recently let us know how hot it has been around here. September ranked as the warmest on record for the Sarasota-Bradenton area, and also one of the driest, according to the National Weather Service. The average temperature for the month was 86 degrees, well above the normal September average of 81.4 degrees, the weather service noted. And it closed on a hot note, setting a record of 95 degrees on Monday for Sept. 30, breaking the former mark of 94 degrees for the date set in 1958. But as notable as the heat was the lack of rainfall during what is normally one of the wettest months of the year. Sarasota-Bradenton received just 1.99 inches of rain for the month, compared with the normal 7.1 inches that normally falls. That tied it for the fourth-driest September on record, weather service data showed. The previous hottest September was in 2016, when the average temperature was 83.9 degrees. Nine of the 14 warmest Septembers on record have been since 2002. Worldwide, June 2019 was the hottest June ever, according to more than a century of weather records.

2020 Membership Enrollment Form Thank you for joining the Community Association, which is dedicated to preserving your paradise. The Community Association also runs important initiatives inside the gates. These include the Hurricane Readiness Team (HRT) and CPR training, activities to make your life easier, such as Shredfest and Bike-O-Rama, and presentations on a variety of topics to keep you up to date and informed. We also publish the popular “Parcels from Paradise.” All of this is made possible by your membership dues, for which we thank you.
