Advancing Our Future 2011 Annual Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends:

During the 2011 calendar year, we made great strides

in advancing our future. A Needs Assessment Study was

completed by David Roush and Associates, clearly showing

that we must enhance our short term rehabilitation services.

Such an initiative is in response to community needs, and will

foster our mission while securing our financial future.

A meteorological tower was erected to measure the

available wind resources in advance and in consideration of building a wind turbine to

take care of our energy needs. The meteorological tower actually is the second phase

of the wind turbine assessment process, the first having been a “behind the computer”

study which showed that there is enough wind to make a wind turbine successful. The

outcome of the meteorological study is needed to support the findings in the “behind

the computer” study and was paid for, in part, through a grant from the Rhode Island

Economic Development Corporation.

Additionally during the year, we conducted a feasibility study in conjunction with our

fundraising consultants, Changing Our World, to ascertain if there were sufficient

resources from individuals to consider a potential capital campaign to advance our future

in a variety of areas including short term rehabilitation and programming for pre and

post acute services for Seniors in the community (“Medicare Navigation program”). The

study showed that we are not positioned at this time to proceed with a major campaign

but that there is sufficient interest among donors to proceed with something modest

that would directly benefit residents of Saint Antoine. It was further suggested that we

make an application to a major foundation to cover the larger percentage of costs for

Transitional Care and Short term Rehabilitation expansion and renovation. It appears

clear that following response of our grant proposal, we will have a clearer picture of

the flavor of launching a small campaign for additional monies for either Rehabilitation

programming or other Residence enhancements.

Also, even during these most difficult of economic times over the last several years, we

have been able to maintain a healthy bottom line. Much thanks is due to our managers

and staff at the Residence and the Villa who have “tightened their belts” and been frugal

in spending practices. We know that we will continue to face challenges in revenue

and continued Medicaid cuts in the immediate future. Despite economic challenges our

positive cash flow has allowed us to proceed with recent capital expenditures including

new sidewalks and parking lot refurbishments and to plan for 2012 expenditures including

roof replacement, updated sprinkler work, and cosmetic improvements.

Finally and so very importantly, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many

donors listed on the following pages of this report. Thanks to your good graces, we have

been able to both stabilize our budget and foster our mission. For this we are most grateful!
