    1. Introduction

Rice has always been one of the major cros the

country roduces. !utrient management in rice

roduction lays a vital role in roducing "uality

cros. Rice lants need the right combination of nutrients

to live and grow. #hen rice lants suffer from

malnutrition$ they show symtoms of being

unhealthy. %oo little or too much of any one nutrientcan cause roblems.

    1. Introduction

It is imortant to identify the nutrient

    disorder esecially in the vegetative

    stage of the rice cro.

#ith this to consider the researcher

wishes to create a &ecision 'uort

'ystem (&'') to assist in the soil nutrient

management on rice areas in Agusan del

    'ur.

    1. Introduction

%he roject by PhilRice (Philiine Rice Research

Institute) entitled *&etermination of 'oil +ertility 'tatus of

Major Rice ,rowing Areas in Caraga Region -sing Minus/ne

    0lement %echi"ue (M/0%) (C. A. Mabayag 2 'M Paculba$ et. al.

3413) conducted the survey to determine the limiting soilsnutrients in major rice growing areas of two major rice growing

rovinces in Caraga Region (Agusan del 'ur and Agusan del

    !orte).

#ith the data from the said study a centrali5ed database of the

common nutrientdeficiencies of Agusan del 'ur will becreated.

    1.3 'tatement of the Problem

%here is a need for a &ecision 'uort 'ystem for Agusan del

    'ur on rice nutrient management.

    1. %here is no centrali5ed database for 6eeing the data

collected by PhilRice on the common soil nutrient

    deficiencies in Agusan del 'ur.

    3. %here are no charts$ grahs and rintable reorts that will

inform lanners$ e7tension wor6ers$ and farmers of the soil

nutrient deficiencies$ annually$ in each rice growing

    barangays of Agusan del 'ur.

    8. %here is no ma that shows the soil nutrient deficiencies of

the rice growing barangays of Agusan del 'ur.

    1.8 /bjectives of the 'tudy

%he main objective of the study is to develo a &ecision 'uort

'ystem on soil nutrient management for Agusan del 'ur rice

    growing barangays.

    1. Create a centrali5ed database of the most common limiting

soil nutrients in major lowland rice growing barangays in Agusandel 'ur.

    3. &evelo a dynamic system that generates charts$ grahs and

rintable reorts that will inform PhilRice wor6ers of the soil

nutrient deficiencies$ annually$ in each barangays of Agusan del

    'ur.

    8. &evelo a system that generates a ma on the location of

common limiting soil nutrients in major lowland rice growing

    barangays in Agusan del 'ur.

    1.9 'ignificance of the 'tudy

It aims to database the soil fertility of the major rice

growing areas of Agusan del 'ur so that lanners$ e7tension

wor6ers$ and farmers would have birdseyeview; of the

whole soil fertility status of their locality and rovince

that could aid them in decisionma6ing for aroriate

    interventions$ articularly on nutrient management.

1.< 'coe and =imitation of the 'tudy

    %he study intends to develo a #ebbased &ecision

'uort 'ystem for Agusan del 'ur rice growing barangays.

It will have a ma of the common limiting soil nutrients in

Agusan del 'ur rice growing barangays.

%hese soil nutrients$ needed by the rice lant$ include

    !itrogen (!)$ Phoshorous (P)$ Potassium (>)$ ?inc (?n)$

'ulfur (') and Coer (Cu). 'tudies show that many rice

areas in the country had soils that are deficient with two or

    more essential elements$ i.e.$ !$ P$ >$ ' and ?n (&escalsota

    1@@@ !emeBo et al., 3411).

    3. Review of Related

    =iterature 2! "rop Nutrient Management Decision Support System# $ndia

%his study has shown that IC%s when aroriately harnessed can

increase farmers; access to information. %ailormade information

to individual farmers can imrove farm roductivity. +armers stillneed to attain greater level of awareness on new cros and

management ractices and mobile hones can be the vehicle to

suort this. +armers are interested in bundled services roviding

a variety of information related to cro roduction$ rocessing and

sale. %his study also indicates the imortance of socially

embedding the technology with the hel of local institutions toeffectively address information needs of farmers.

    '!! Data Gat%ering

PhilRice develoed a reliable$ lowcost$ and easy alternative

techni"ue for diagnosing nutrient limitation called the Minus/ne

0lement %echni"ue (M/0%) in determining the fertility status ofthe soil. %hey used this techni"ue to identify the soil nutrient

deficiencies of Caraga Region (Agusan del 'ur and Agusan del

!orte). %he researcher then gathered the necessary data from

    PhilRice.

    Methodology

8.1.3 &ata Analysis and Possible 'olution

%he researcher will use the data gathered to create the

system and database. My'H=$ an oensource relational

database management system (R&M')$ will be used asthe local database.

An online database is needed for the maing feature to

integrate it to ,oogle Mas. ,oogle +usion %able is a

#eb service rovided by ,oogle for data management.

&ata is stored in multile tables that Internet users canview and download. %here are also e7tensions available

to e7and its features and functionalities such as +usion

    %able =ayer #i5ard$ +usion %able =ayer uilder and

    ,oogle +usion Mas.

    15/19

%o begin maneuvering +usion %able$ the geosatial data

should be converted into olygons to be accumulated in a

table by the use of www.shescae.com$ it will

automatically uload the converted geosatial data to,oogle +usion %able.

%he uloaded geosatial data only consists of olygons

reresenting each barangay and its corresonding name in

Agusan del 'ur. And other imortant data such as farmer

name$ ercentage$ total number of each nutrient

deficiencies in each barangay and etc. were recorded

searately. %hese data are needed to be merged with the

uloaded geosatial data to visuali5e the ma in the web

    through ,oogle +usion %able.

    Methodology

    De(elopment of isuali3ed 4resentations and Reports

An offline software alication will be used in ma6ing

interactive charts and grahs for visuali5ing and decision

    ma6ing uroses. +usion Chart J% roduces e7citing

animation$ smart designs and rich interactivity charts andit is free for nonrofitable organi5ationsK uroses.

+usion Chart J% is caable of generating a PLP code that

can be embedded to the PLP file. %o start maneuvering

+usion Chart J%$ the generated code is used and altered

and then connect it to the local database.

    %he researcher will use ,oogle +usion %able to visuali5e

the ma of the location of the common nutrient deficiencies

in Agusan del 'ur. ,oogle +usion %ables is a service for data

management$ integration and collaboration. %he data sets can

easily be uloaded from C'$ >M= and sreadsheets$ and

visuali5e the data using a variety of tools. -sers can mergedata from multile tables and conduct detailed discussions

about the data (on rows$ columns and even cells). Also

develoers can easily visuali5e large data sets on ,oogle Mas

and embed visuali5ations on other web ages.

  • 8/9/2019 Rice Nutrient Dss

    18/19

&eveloers can also use the +usion %ables API to insert$

udate$ delete and "uery data rogrammatically. &ata

can be e7orted as C' or >M= too. After the data has

been uloaded$ the ma can be viewed instantly. %hisma can be embedded in web age or blog ost the

,oogle will generate automatically a lin6 for the ma or

an html code for an e7act dislay of the ma. It will

always dislay the latest data values from the selected

    table.
