October is National Cyber Security Awareness MonthThe Town of Yucca Valley is introducing two a workshop to assist residents in learninghow to protect themselves from cybercrime.

Holiday Craft FaireCatch the spirit of the season at the Town of Yucca Valley's Holiday Craft Faire on Saturday, December 5thfrom 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Yucca Valley Community Center. Tackle your holiday shopping and pick upunique gifts for that hard to buy for person. A long-time local tradition, the Holiday Craft Faire is a favoriteopportunity to shop for exceptional holiday gifts in indoor comfort. You'll find new gift ideas, original arts andcrafts, sculpture, ceramics, specialty foods, home decor, clothing, floral designs, jewelry, photography, soaps,candles, toys and much more. More than fifty artisans and crafters will be displaying a variety of quality,handcrafted items at this year's event. Admission is free for shoppers.Artisans interested in the Faire are invited to submit an application. Space is limited. Vendor registration isunderway through November 12th or when all tables have been sold. Cost is $25.00 per table and is limitedto one table per vendor. All items sold must be handmade and sold by the artist or craftsperson; commercialproducts are not permitted. A valid seller's permit is required and must be provided by the deadline.Registration forms and additional vendor information is available at the Community Services office located atthe Yucca Valley Community Center.

TWENTYNINE PALMS - With the cooler fall weather here FREE flu shots will be available for adultsand children at the Twentynine Palms Senior Center 6539 Adobe Rd. on October 28, 2015 from 12noon to 2 pm.

This free flu shot clinic will be hosted by Reach Out Morongo Basin and sponsored by Walgreens -Yucca Valley. Walgreens will be providing vouchers for free flu shots administered by a licensedPharmacist and the community is urged to get a jump on protection from the coming flu season.No appointment is required and all walk-ins are welcome. NORTHERN LIGHTS FALL FLAMENCO TOURAT THEATRE 29 OCTOBER 28TH. 8:00PMBack by popular demand, Seattle-based Flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes brings her latestshow, Northern Lights to Theater 29 at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Fuentes will be joined by a cantaor ( male flamenco singer), direct from Spain, as well as Juañaritoand guitarist Bobby de Sofia. Juañarito is a tremendous young talent from a family of Spanish Roma Flamenco singers from theAndalusian province of Jerez de La Frontera (known as the cradle of Flamenco). The son of famedsinger,Juañares and the nephew of Flamenco legend Jose Merce, Juañarito gained national acclaim inSpain as a result of his remarkable performances on The Spanish version of The Voice (La VozEspaña ) this year. He will be making his American debut in *Northern Lights*. Originally from Sofia, Bulgaria, guitarist Bobby discovered flamenco in Los Angeles and continued hisstudies in Andalusia with artists such as Pedro Viscomi and Paco Arroyo. He currently performsregularly at the various Flamenco clubs in the Los Angeles area. Born in Seattle to parents of Puerto Rican and Irish ancestry, Savannah began her studies in Seattleand continued in Spain with dancers such as Belen Maya and Cristobal Reyes. She currently toursthroughout the western united states and has independently produced over 250 presentations andworkshops featuring internationally recognized flamenco singers. WRCOG Expo Focuses on Future of TransportationThe Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) 16th Annual Advancing theChoice Expo, to be held Oct.29, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., is one of the largest events inthe Inland region that provides real solutions for people to live better, healthier lives withless impact on the environment. This year's theme will be "The Future of Transportation"and will explore the many changes that will bring us cleaner transportation fuels, improvedair quality, and more diverse modes of transportation. Cap-and-Trade Workshop with SoCal GasThe Southern California Gas Company, in collaboration with SCAG and our other co-sponsors, will be hosting an engaging and valuable discussion on how to accessCalifornia's cap-and-trade grant funding on Nov. 18, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., at theSoCalGas Energy Resource Center in Downey. The Joshua Tree Branch Library will host an Artist Talk and reception featuringJenifer Palmer-Lacy on Saturday, Halloween, October 31st at 12:30. Learnto create beautiful Papel Picado images! The "Art Above the Shelves" program isco-sponsored by the Joshua Tree Friends of the Library and the Morongo BasinCultural Arts Council. The works of Jenifer Palmer-Lacy are displayed in theJoshua Tree Branch Library and will be on view throughout December. Papel picado ("perforated paper, literally peckered paper") is a decorative craft

made out of paper cut into elaborate designs. It is considered a Mexican folk art. The designs arecommonly cut from tissue paper using a guide and small chisels, creating as many as forty banners ata time. See the Friends of the Joshua Tree Library site: http://www.joshuatreefol.org/exhibit.htm

Saturday, October 31 atSky's The Limit:Spectacles of the Fall Sky Sky's the Limit Observatory and Nature Center,9697 Utah Trail, invites guests for a tour of thebest cosmic wonders in the fall sky at a freepublic event thatbegins at 7:10 pm and endsaround 10:00 pm on Saturday, October 31.On display are the Ring Nebula, the AndromedaGalaxy, and the Double Cluster. Also visible arethe outer planets Uranus and Neptune. Thesummer triangle and Milky Way are still high inthe sky. This short event ends at 10 pm becauseof the Moonrise.The top 5 most prominent constellations are Aquila (the Eagle), Cygnus (the Swan), Pegasus (theWinged Horse), Cassiopeia (the Seated Queen), and Andromeda (the Princess).STL has a variety of types and sizes of telescopes set up along winding sidewalks, and guests arewelcome to use them or may bring their own binoculars and scopes as well. STL volunteers will makeevery effort to assist as needed in setting up and using equipment. All are encouraged to come around sunset to have time to visit other campus educational attractionsbefore the cosmic tour begins at dark. Everyone should dress for unpredictable desert weather andbring snacks, water bottles, a small flashlight, and chairs. Children under 16 must be accompanied byadults. No pets and no smoking allowed on the STL campus, and visitors must carry out all trash.Guests are cautioned that the seasonal sky is very unpredictable and a viewing event may have to bedelayed, rescheduled, or cancelled due to cloudiness, rain, or excessive wind. Mouriquand has been researching prehistoric uses and propagation of native food plants, aswell as the related 'foodways' of local indigenous cultures. She will focus on the history of Mesquite asan important food source for early Native Americans, discussing preparation methods, medicinal usesand how mesquite may benefit people today.The Morongo Basin Historical Society's 2nd Wednesday Lecture Series is held at the Hi-DesertNature Museum Yucca Valley 57116 29 Palms Hwy. Lecture begins at 5:30. Donation is $5.00.
