Any questions please call or text Ginny Haney at 570-490-0894 or the parish office at 570-275-2512.

SERIES ON MENTAL ILLNESS

Mental illness is a serious problem which causes severe distress in the lives

of many people and their families. According to the National Institute of

Health, 1 in 17 people has a severe mental illness. As Christians we need to

be aware of this situation so that we can provide compassion and support to

our brothers and sisters. This weekend is the 2nd in a series of brief bulletin

inserts discussing some aspects of this issue and our role as a faith

community. A list of community resources will also be available.

For more information, contact Andrew Matragrano at 570-275-0972

Week 2– Second in a series of what our Faith Community can do to minister to

those with mental health challenges, and their families.

According to the National Institute of Health, in a given year about one in four people

have a diagnosable mental disorder such as depression, bipolar disease, schizophrenia

among others. One in 17 people has a severe mental illness. These mental health

challenges encompass biological, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of

the individuals affected. These challenges also impact the lives of the person’s family.

This situation is compounded by stigma attached to mental illness and their families

often feel isolated from their faith community and thus isolated from God. As a faith

community, we are called to support individuals and their families through their time

of crisis when the illness first occurs and in the ensuing life with and ongoing

recovery from it. The spiritual dimensions are critical to the recovery process. We can

offer spiritual comfort and practical support of their physical needs. In justice, our

advocacy is needed to address stigma and the resulting discrimination that can occur.

For more information, visit the National Catholic Partnership on Disability at

http:www.ncpd.org/ministries-programs/specific/mentalillness.

LIFETEEN IS ALSO THE HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP OF ST. JOSEPH PARISH, DANVILLE!

do not have Life Teen. We will see you on July 9.

July 9th We have a special Life Night next week. We are gonna have a “Color Run”!!! The goal of this Life Night is to have fun and build community. This Life Night also provides a way for the CORE to connect with teens on social media. We will meet at the Bloomsburg Town Park at 7:00 P.M. NOTE NOT the St. Columba Parish Center Life Teen room. Also, EVERYONE…you need to 1. Wear a white tee shirt 2. Bring clothes to change into afterward. Lol…we will all be a colorful mess.

DONATIONS APPRECIATED!!! Thank you to anyone who has graciously donated snacks and monetary gifts to Life Teen. If you would like to help with snack donations, we could use snacks of any kind. Bought or baked…it’s all good. We can also make great use of gift cards: Giant, Weis, Walmart…. We provide pizza and snacks for the teens every week, so if you can help in any way it would be GREATLY appreciated. There is a box located in the Iron Street (Bloomsburg) foyer next to the parking lot for you to drop your purchased donations in but, if you are donating a check card or a monetary gift, it is best to drop or mail it to the Church office. You can contact Karen Konkolics at 570-441-3459 to make other arrangements. Thank you so very much!!!

Life Teen meets every Sunday night from 7 to 9 pm (unless otherwise noted) in the Life Teen room, located upstairs in the parish center at St. Columba Church, Bloomsburg. Enter through the Parish Library by the school playground in the back of the Church. Food, fun, fellowship, and faith. Come and be a part of this dynamic ministry. Life Night’s are open to high schoolers.

Life Teen Mission Statement Guided by the Holy Spirit, the mission of St. Columba Youth Ministry is to empower young people to develop a personal relationship with Jesus so they can live as Disciples of Christ. Through living a sacramental life, continuing Catholic formation, prayer, sharing of gifts and talents, through service and social activities, young people come to understand who Jesus is and live for Him.

Please pray for the Muslims in the city who have been helping their Christian neighbors.

I’ll be counting on all of you to set a good example. Many thanks!
