    With a retroreflectometer an a enc canfind in-service signs near the minimumlevels. These signs can be removedfrom service and stored until nighttimesign inspections commence.

    Visual Inspection Method:

    Overview

    With this method a SUV or truck has to be used

    with specific headlamps (described later) and

    the inspector needs to be at least 60 years old.

    The inspection occurs at highway speeds.

    No calibration signs or comparison panels are

    needed.

    This method simulates the conditions of the

    research which FHWA used as a foundation for

    the minimum retroreflectivity levels.
