Health and Safety Manager
SGL Group - The Carbon Company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of carbon-based
products with a comprehensive portfolio ranges from carbon and graphite products to carbon fibers and
composites. This is a union facility of 150 employees and I was hired to provide leadership and guidance
to the Management team on how they can be successful in implementing the required culture change.
Pro-actively manage Workers Comp claims. Working in conjunction with the WC provider and
treating physicians’ to manage employee recuperation while addressing potential fraud claims.
Using the collective 7 year annual Workers Comp cost average as the baseline prior to my arrival
at SGL the WC claims costs have been reduced $1.3million in 3 years.
Workers Comp cost improvements over baseline: 2013- 74%, 2014- 53%, 2015- 95%
RCR rate improvements over baseline: 2013- 17%, 2014- 37%, 2015- 78%. The 2015 RCR rate
was the lowest rate in the history of the facility.
Six Sigma Green Belt project reduced cost for Safety Consumables at 75%

Charged with the responsibility for Management of Change. This role has the oversight
responsibility to work with Manufacturing on identifying changes in process controls, procedures
or materials then systematically address each variable to de-risk the change.
Responsible for leading the investigations for all serious near misses, recordable accidents and
near misses to root cause the incident then establish corrective actions to prevent re-occurrences.

Environmental Health & Safety Engineer
Grede Foundry pours over 200 tons of molten grey ductile iron per day for the casting of drive train,
suspension and structural supports components for Freightliner, Volvo trucks and Thomas buses. In this
role I had the full realm of environmental and safety responsibility for a facility of 400 employees that
operated 24/7 along with 100 employees that worked at an off-site machine shop location.
When hired there were 5 outstanding citations with OSHA along with violations, citations and
penalties with NCAG LP and NCDENR Air Quality that I implemented corrections, abatements
and process controls that addressed and corrected those infractions.
Was able to adapt to an industry that was outside of my past experiences while at the same time
provide leadership, training and resources that continued the companies safety focus to reach 2
million man hours worked without a LTA.
Project leader to build a secure room for the storing of 60 plus PAPR respirators used by
Finishing employees. Purchased supporting equipment (lockers, tables, cleaning supplies,
charging storage…), determined min/max inventory levels and developed procedures.
SPG / PaperWorks Packaging Group, Greensboro NC Feb. 2003 to Feb. 2012
Human Resources and Safety Manager
PPG of Greensboro is a carton converter that supplies 40 million plus cartons annually for P&G’s dental
crème facility in Browns’ Summit. This responsibility provided me the experience and the training to
proactively address both the employee relations aspect in a fast paced demanding manufacturing
operation as well as providing a safe work environment for all the employees.
My role included HR and Safety management responsibilities for multiple facilities in Kansas
City & Lenexa, Kansas and for the Mt. Gilead, NC locations.
Employee Survey results improved to a company high satisfactory rating of 85% in 2010.
Accident rates were reduced 65% over last 5 years.
Net profit in 2010 lead to our location being recognized as the top contributor to profits.

Overtime reduction of 5% annually for the last 4 years while at the same time operations have
reflected increases in productivity from 70% in 2006 to 83% in 2010.
Successful in defending 100% of “Terminations for Cause” claims with the ESC.
Reduced employee turnover from 20.1% in 2008 to 7.6% in 2011.

Operations Manager and Plant Safety Coordinator
EAS is an industry leading manufacturer of custom Air Handling and purification systems. In this role I
had the responsibility to address internal wastes that contributed to schedule delays and budget overages.
Also to identify Safety Compliance gaps, update Work Instructions as necessary then provide the
required training to employees so the facility was brought into compliance with safety standards.
Implemented “Demand Flow Manufacturing” practices to increase output & reduce overtime.
Developed and performed “Quality Control Audits” that reduced rework delays and improved the
overall standards of workmanship.

Manufacturing Coordinator
Pass & Seymour hired me to help provide experienced leadership support for a start-up facility. Over the
next 5 years there were a series of successful progressive assignments leading to increases in my P&L
responsibility and operational promotions. In my final role I was the Lead Coordinator over the Mold
Injection department of 45 mold injection presses and the Boxline Assembly department.
Increased Production by 35% my 1st year as the Switch Line Coordinator. Overtime reduced from
14% to 2% with Absenteeism reduced from 6% to 2% over the same period.
Boxline was the most profitable department of the 12 business units in 2001.
Lead PIT teams to address non-value added processes, improve ergonomics & eliminate repetitive
tasks, increase productivity and reduce repetitive motion injuries.

of the nations’ largest Securities and Financial document printers.

Eliminated dependency on dangerous chemical usage by converting all operations to
environmentally friendly chemicals then processed the documentation and the coordination for the
removal of the hazardous waste.
Successfully completed change in RCRA classification with the NCDENR from a “Large Generator
of Waste” to an “Exempt Small Generator of Waste.”
