Previso is a gas forecasting software package that can model the wholeintegrated extraction, production and distribution system from multiplereservoirs, wells, subsea pipelines, compressors, separators to themarket.

It very quickly and accurately history matches and forecasts productionprofiles and manage subsurface uncertainty quantification bygenerating vast numbers of scenarios required for short, medium andlong-term production planning.

What is unique about our approach is that the forecast is market-driven andproduction honours market constraints.

Production is tracked on a component by component basis and back-allocated through the elements of the network, processing plants, pipelines,compressors, wells and finally to each reservoir.

Gas production can be constrained, and hydrocarbon liquids productionoptimised based on multiple and complex market demands. The productionconstraints, prioritisation, scheduling and event triggering can be ascomplex as required, such as specifying a minimum, maximum or a specificrange of any product stream demand, such as the mole fraction of any gascomponent or combination of gas components.

The key strengths of the software are its stability and speed ofcalculation. We have designed and implemented a robust andextremely fast algorithm that does not make simplifications.

Complex production systems with many wells and reservoirs can besolved in minutes rather than hours. The software is completelyintegrated with no external interfaces to other software packagesrequired. All aspects of the network are modelled directly withinPREVISO.

The speed and stability of calculation facilitates our ScenarioManager module that is used to generate and run a number ofscenarios, which are versions of the base case model. One or moreinput parameters can be modified to evaluate the impact of a nodeon the entire system such as changes in market demand, pressureconstraints, event triggers and priorities.

Users define scenarios by applying a probabilistic density function(PDF) to most input parameters.

PREVISO uses Sobol sampling to generate a specified number ofscenarios based on the applied PDF. This mode is used to perform aprobabilistic analysis on the base model which is useful to evaluatethe influence of parameter uncertainty on the overall deliverabilityof the system; a probabilistic estimate (e.g. P10, P50, and P90) onthe overall production recovery can be obtained.

Our network solving algorithm is proprietary and unique. We use novel numerical techniques and efficient coding to deliver results that honour allnetwork constraints at each timestep that always converges. Our algorithm doesn’t take short-cuts and we don’t have numerical stability issues.We combine our numerical algorithms with industry standard correlations (with the ability to add new ones).
