MEDICAID WAIVER RESOURCES
Virginia Medicaid Waiver
Information
There is still old information on the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance (DMAS) and Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (DBHDS) web sites but this link is good (as of 29 Sep 2016)
http://www.dbhds.virginia.gov/individuals-and-families/developmental-disabilities/my-life-my-community
Waiver redesign was implemented 01 September 2016. The ID, DD, and Day Support waivers were replaced by the Community Living (CL - includes residential option), Family and Individual Supports (FIS) and Building Independence (BI - for adults 18 + with rent subsidy). Individuals are to be re-assessed to see which of the new waivers is most appropriate for their needs. The process of prioritizing the current waiting lists, and assigning the new waivers to existing waiver recipients is underway. These programs provide home and community-based care services to Medicaid eligible individuals who otherwise could be placed in an Intermediate Care Facility. There are waiting lists for these waivers, but there is case management and a chance to apply for an Individual and Family Support Program (IFSP) grant for individuals on the waiting list. Individuals may qualify for the Elderly or Disabled with Consumer Direction (EDCD) and Technology Assisted (Tech) waivers while on the waiting list for one of the waivers listed above. These waivers have respite care, attendant care and nursing services available depending on needs,
