Contents PageI looked first at this contents page from an issue of NME. I could see that they split their articles up and gave them sub headings which made it easier for the reader to follow.
Colour SchemeThe magazine consists of a simple colour scheme which makes it easy to read fonts and makes them stand out. There is an image of an artist performing on stage which corresponds to an extract of the story underneath. This allows the reader to get a hint of what is inside the magazine and lures them into buying it.
SubheadingsThe subheadings make it simple and clear for the reader to understand the format of the magazine. I think doing this was very effective and I decided this would be something that would be useful to include in my magazine.
Page NumberThere were page numbers next to the stories which stood out because they were in a different colour. After looking over different copies of NME I found that the contents page had a similar layout and style to each other which is a very common convention in magazines.
Main ImageThe main image is related to the main article and it also blends in with the style of the magazine due to the dark background. I really like how the main image and background blends in together and really goes with the theme of the contents page.
Buzz WordsThe buzz words that are used in the contents page is ‘PLUS’ and this attracts the readers attention more. LogoThe magazine logo shows continuity of the front cover and makes the magazine look more professional. It also constantly reminds the reader what magazine they are reading and keeps the brand name fresh in their minds.
LayoutThe layout of the magazine is easy to follow and it highlights the most important stories inside.
BriefThe brief gives the reader a more in depth view of what each page in the magazine is going to be about. They are all related to the subheadings but put more detail into it.

This double page spread is from the magazine NME. I really liked the newspaper theme that it used as it makes the magazine look DIY and the way the letters are cut out in different sizes and disjointed gives the page a grunge which reflects the genre. I really like the text used on the page but I feel that it takes up too much room and so when doing my title I wouldn’t want it to take up this much room.
I also like the way the more important things that the writer wants you to notice are coloured in red like ‘Lily Allen’ and the writer ‘Anna McMillan’ and the page numbers. The white background is common among double spreads because it makes the text and images stand out more to the reader. The rest of the text is in black which makes the colour correlate with the models shirt. This makes the design of the magazine more aesthetically pleasing.
The punk theme is reinforced in the way that the model in this picture (Lily Allen) has her hands on her hips, dark eyeliner and her hair styled messy also reflects a grunge style.
