    Foreword

Over the last couple months, 1,417 IT Professionals took our industry-exclusive I/O Performance Survey, which makes this independent performance survey the largest of its kind. The surveyed audience excluded our own I/O reduction software customers who use our software to get the most performance possible from their server and storage assets.

18 questions were asked, so one might expect an 18 page PDF. However, many of the questions had optional open responses, so a respondent could provide commentary on why they selected a particular answer. All those individual responses have been included to help readers dig-in deeper on any question if desired.

This research effort was funded and conducted by Condusiv Technologies whose “set and forget” I/O reduction software guarantees to solve the toughest performance problems on Windows systems, enabling organizations to achieve significantly faster application performance and get more life from the server and storage hardware assets they already have.

For a 2-min overview of the solution and access to a recently published case study from the University of Illinois who doubled the performance of MS-SQL and Oracle workloads on their all-flash arrays, visit www.condusiv.com/try.

15 Requirements by software vendors have gotten to be a little out of control. 5/25/2017 9:51 AM

    16 Runs faster 5/25/2017 9:49 AM

    17 Limited budgets 5/25/2017 9:48 AM

    18 Upgrading Server & Storage Technology 5/25/2017 9:42 AM

19 by nature, add more servers and dilute I/O 5/25/2017 9:36 AM

20 the Bandwidth and quantity of servers as the performance of the storage have become critical to keep up the service 5/25/2017 9:28 AM

21 Tendency to add hardware for performance issues 5/25/2017 9:18 AM

    22 more 5/25/2017 8:59 AM

23 i/o improvement allows the full use of the existing server capabilities 5/25/2017 8:57 AM

24 I n we to balance I/O with performance and new acquisitions 5/25/2017 8:57 AM

25 Data requirements continue to grow exponentially 5/25/2017 8:51 AM

26 Its a constant battle to keep up I/O growth & curtail the costs. Compute is cheap now-a-days. Storage getting

expensive ever increasing in demand with all the IOT, take everything to cloud strategies etc.

    5/25/2017 8:50 AM

27 We use Amazon, openstack and Azure. 5/25/2017 8:47 AM

28 2 primary challenges: Managing capacity and risk. 5/25/2017 8:27 AM

29 application sprawl is always an issue 5/25/2017 8:19 AM

30 having to move alot to tier one all flash is pricey! sql virtualization and vdi to name a few 5/25/2017 8:15 AM

31 if the company is growing up so the infrastructure will too 5/25/2017 8:10 AM

32 Compute power and performance outstrips the bandwidth and IOPs capabilities of legacy storage 5/25/2017 8:07 AM

33 the current configuration is lacking in ability 5/25/2017 8:03 AM

34 flash storage is still costly 5/25/2017 8:03 AM

35 With the implementation of flash, server count can go down a bit, but getting that flash performance to those servers

can be costly and the servers can limit that performance capability

    5/25/2017 7:49 AM

36 I usually buy more hard drives and RAM than the state of SD specs on their server contract, increasing cost 5/25/2017 7:31 AM

37 THe larger files need more processing power 5/25/2017 7:25 AM

38 We have had to add more storage each year. 5/25/2017 7:13 AM

39 To keep up with I/O demands we are starting to move towards more flash storage which fulfills the preforamnce

    requirement but adds considerable expense

    5/25/2017 7:08 AM

40 Volume of data needing to be process in a query can be an issue 5/25/2017 7:08 AM

41 Both the growth of storage an IOs is a challenge. 5/25/2017 7:05 AM

42 We are constantly in need of more storage space, but are constricted due to budgetary considerations. 5/25/2017 7:01 AM

    43 we have i/o demanding apps 5/25/2017 6:58 AM

44 Seems the more I/O in place the more that gets used and or desired 5/25/2017 6:58 AM

45 Tremendous growth in IOPS 5/25/2017 6:56 AM

    46 Definitely 5/25/2017 6:56 AM

47 Customers are demanding more data in shorter periods of time with minimal response delays 5/25/2017 6:55 AM

48 We are rolling out more and more SQL heavy applications that consume bandwidth making it a challenge for remote

locations with only a DSL connection available.

    5/25/2017 6:47 AM

49 Increasing of I/O role effect the cost of infrastructure of IT demand 5/25/2017 6:46 AM

50 We have recently upgraded to more Flash in our SAN 5/25/2017 6:45 AM

51 ability to provide more persistent desktops 5/25/2017 6:37 AM

52 More cloud storage means a greater concern about the speed of access to that data. Lack of performance creates

many issues for systems that were not concerns in the past.

    5/25/2017 6:34 AM

53 Efficiency is an issue with system upgrades. 5/25/2017 6:30 AM

54 When using VSAN Hybrid the cost of larger flash drives to keep up with the demands is not cheap 5/25/2017 6:27 AM

55 Off-course more disk equal better I/O though technology change in storage area such as SSD and SDN is what

    making a true difference!

    5/25/2017 6:26 AM

56 Proper in house backup solutions are becoming challenging with the amount of data. 5/25/2017 6:18 AM

57 SSD or Tier Level 1 Storage is becoming a standard 5/25/2017 6:17 AM

58 Server hardware and software update 5/25/2017 6:16 AM

59 Expansion is always difficult. Try to leverage onsite and cloud. 5/25/2017 6:14 AM

60 have to retire the old storage 5/25/2017 6:14 AM

61 The Storage that some area do is daily. Due to a 5 year storage plan for our customers this is unprodictable how much

sever space I will need each year.

    5/25/2017 5:58 AM

    62 More VM = More Iops 5/25/2017 5:57 AM

63 New applications and services require more and more from the infrastructure. 5/25/2017 5:55 AM

64 To a degree. But technology choices over past year have significantly improved our capability in keeping up. 5/25/2017 5:53 AM

65 We built a whole new multi million dollar datacenter to help with data congestion. 5/25/2017 5:52 AM

66 With limited budget not always possible to put in the most efficient solution 5/25/2017 5:51 AM

67 adding flash cache and ssd for op system helped 5/25/2017 4:26 AM

68 Improving I/O performance will be reflected to running systems and applications on data saving and and retrieval

processes which will improve business process as well. Also it is awesome improvement for backup and restore

    operations

    5/25/2017 3:38 AM

69 But the needs grow too (Big Data) 5/25/2017 3:03 AM

70 We are not aloud to go to cloud storage, has to be on our network for security 5/25/2017 2:52 AM

71 We had to implement a tight monitoring of io to properly track io usage/requirements 5/25/2017 2:23 AM

72 Key issue is peaks in demand. 5/25/2017 2:17 AM

73 Much more data being used compared to even a couple of years ago eg IP cameras and storage 5/25/2017 2:10 AM

    74 Higher 5/25/2017 2:09 AM

    75 SAN Storage Issues 5/25/2017 2:03 AM

76 results in project delay 5/25/2017 1:56 AM

77 Cost of storage hardware is an issue. 5/25/2017 1:45 AM

78 just recently upgraded home NAS to use newer system (motherboard, cpu and disk controller) to gain more

    performance

    5/16/2017 9:56 AM

79 The growth of I/O is stretching us to purchase more hardware to provide load balance. 5/16/2017 9:12 AM

80 I am actively involved in this 5/16/2017 8:16 AM

81 starting to use SAAS vendors 5/16/2017 7:48 AM

82 Extra storage will give additional flexibility 5/16/2017 7:37 AM

83 Need to match Development Test systems to Production sizes. 5/16/2017 7:09 AM

84 Increases our bandwidth effectively and efficiently 5/16/2017 6:54 AM

85 the better the I/O the higher the hardware costs 5/16/2017 6:52 AM

86 High letency device need with SSD for example Database , splunk etc. 5/16/2017 6:43 AM

    87 Characterizing traffic 5/16/2017 6:16 AM

88 Business growth, standing up new applications with new databases are among the things contributing to I/O growth 5/9/2017 3:39 PM

89 Storage and data retention requirements definitely stretch budgets 5/9/2017 11:02 AM

90 Oversubscription of hosting services (virtualization) is stressing I/O and creating apparent performance issues on

hosted servers, requiring more distributed storage.

    5/9/2017 9:44 AM

91 Capacity planning becomes more of a challenge. 5/9/2017 5:55 AM

92 We are facing I/O issues in our environment 5/9/2017 5:54 AM

93 We have demands for IO that are outstripping single-server needs, which makes projects more expensive 5/9/2017 5:46 AM

94 Feeling that existing it budget is insufficient 5/8/2017 12:02 PM

95 As stated - need to add more and more capacity 5/8/2017 5:55 AM

    96 we have a grouth of 10% Y/Y 5/7/2017 11:16 PM

97 Tech is changing so fast, it is impossible to stay ahead.. Always trying to make something you paid 50k for, last longer

because explaining new technology to management is such a hassle.

    5/5/2017 4:36 PM

98 faster service, better applications that helps me save time. 5/5/2017 8:20 AM

99 When using spinning disks, need more spindles to accommodate the increased I/O needs. Or even go to full SSD. 5/5/2017 12:47 AM

    100 Big data needs I/O stretching 5/4/2017 11:53 PM

    101 Really.. yes 5/4/2017 6:01 PM

102 Of course, the systems are requiring vast amounts of i/o performance and to keep up with this when it comes to

hardware and capex, continues to be challenging.

    5/4/2017 4:06 PM

103 Iop requirements often results in adding more disks than required for space. 5/4/2017 3:32 PM

104 I/O price is not dropping significantly. 5/4/2017 3:02 PM

105 Adding h/w to achieve IO is effecting cost efficiency 5/4/2017 2:16 PM

106 Application software vendors/developers have no consideration of storage IO performance when they designed and

developed their applications. This is more like a "storage ignorance" on the developers.

    5/4/2017 2:09 PM

107 Its hard to move storage forard as fast as the demands 5/4/2017 2:02 PM

108 So much storage needed 5/4/2017 1:44 PM

109 We virtualized in 2010 - and I tested your I/O tool last year, but changes in management and personnel have delayed

the effective use of that data to have a conversation about installing V-Locity on our VMWare environment (which I

    want to do).

    5/4/2017 1:37 PM

110 higher costs associated with new hardware 5/4/2017 1:29 PM

111 We are not seeing the IO performance we need and have spent thousands on upgrades/new equipment with little

    relief.

    5/4/2017 1:27 PM

112 Mostly Wide Area and Storage 5/4/2017 1:24 PM

113 not really my area of responsibility 5/4/2017 1:02 PM

114 It's becoming increasingly difficult to keep up. 5/4/2017 12:55 PM

    115 immense added expenses 5/4/2017 12:54 PM

116 uncompressable, undedupable files needing 350TB of space and a lot of I/O are not cheap to house 5/4/2017 12:51 PM

117 More & more biz apps demand higher resource allocations 5/4/2017 12:49 PM

118 We have a spinning disk legacy system that has twice the number of servers it was initially designed for 5/4/2017 12:28 PM

119 With expansions of technology and the enterprise space growing exponentially, it's hard to keep cost down for low

level solutions when the need is for high performing I/O solutions.

    5/4/2017 12:19 PM

120 Not all tools are created equal - some are easy to use but others make diagnosis impossible 5/4/2017 12:11 PM

121 alocating more money and other resources is getting very difficult 5/4/2017 12:10 PM

122 VDI demand is removing the bigger spinning disk for faster flash. Flash has more cost and for the TB needs you have

    to add more datacenter space

123 More taxation of resources of existing equipment as services grow but the infrastructure does not. The Strain over

whelms the system and the impact is then felt across the enterprise.

    5/4/2017 12:01 PM

124 We consistently add additional hardware. 5/4/2017 11:35 AM

125 Performance I/O needs have driven storage decisions driving changes in cost structures 5/4/2017 11:31 AM

126 At times it is a higher cost but the benefit is justified. 5/4/2017 11:23 AM

127 Data I/O is a huge factor in the data processing we do 5/4/2017 11:21 AM

128 We have seen drastic improvements from the incorporation of Pure Storage. 5/4/2017 11:10 AM

129 expanding compute and storage will increase sustainability 5/4/2017 11:04 AM

130 Speed in delivery, provisioning and ensuring SLA availability. 5/4/2017 11:04 AM

131 We usually purchase our servers through grants, but grants generally do not cover ongoing support costs or planned

obsolescence. We are constantly forced to do more with less with older equipment.

    5/4/2017 11:02 AM

    132 Hybrid SAN 5/4/2017 11:02 AM

    133 Yes 5/4/2017 11:02 AM

134 Ended up deploying new physical stand-alone servers - requring separate management, backup, DR etc. 5/4/2017 10:49 AM

135 The demand is high mostly because the data is not managed correctly. Unneeded/outdated pictures and videos

should be deleted/archived and don't need to be maintained as though it is critically needed live data.

    5/4/2017 10:38 AM

    136 Rapid growth 5/4/2017 10:38 AM

137 We are testing out cloud resources and so far finding that even more costly 5/4/2017 10:33 AM

138 Virtual Sprawl has made us provide solutions on existing infrastructure that is not best from an I/O perspective. 5/4/2017 10:22 AM

139 Both, Anytime we add more hardware it requires more management and maintenance 5/4/2017 10:19 AM

140 Network throughput is impacted 5/4/2017 10:16 AM

    141 Throughput is key 5/4/2017 10:12 AM

142 Excessive I/O creates issues with SQL Performance 5/4/2017 10:09 AM

143 I/O needs are outpacing our ability to cost effectively add server and storage hardware 5/4/2017 10:06 AM

144 virtualization has dramatically expanded storage requirements and raised storage costs for project budgets 5/4/2017 10:00 AM

145 Due to increase in transaction volume we have to increase the no. of servers and storage to meet the performance

    needs.

    5/4/2017 9:57 AM

146 I like to keep my severs updated to the latest I/O performances 5/4/2017 9:56 AM

147 bottleneck on common shared resources 5/4/2017 9:55 AM

148 There are always new systems requiring storage and never enough budget to fully grow the storage to cater for the

    required capacity and performance

    5/4/2017 6:22 AM

149 Database intensive apps required more io 5/4/2017 6:00 AM

150 We are having to buy Flash Storage to increase IO performance 5/4/2017 5:57 AM

151 We have a number of point solutions for high capacity IO storage which are difficult to implement 5/4/2017 5:56 AM

152 We've had *some* potential issues with I/O on VMware, but have recently moved to an all flash SAN so the issue has

    been removed.

    5/4/2017 5:54 AM

153 When we have performance issue, the solution always seems to be "add more CPU", which is rather expensive over

    time.

    5/4/2017 5:50 AM

154 Challenging but we have managed to keep up pace. 5/4/2017 5:49 AM

155 Data Warehousing, Virtual Machine Demands 5/4/2017 5:49 AM

156 Requires bigger, more expensive equipment 5/3/2017 1:23 PM

157 adding more and more is not cost effective 5/3/2017 12:53 PM

158 Business growth as well as Data lake growth has not only increased volume of I/O but also affected our ability to

    segment performance

159 We must keep the cost down...in terms of server/storage HW as well as maintenance cost. 5/3/2017 12:10 PM

160 We had older equipment and needed to upgrade 5/3/2017 10:10 AM

161 demands go up and so has the price for servers and storage 5/3/2017 9:33 AM

162 Network infrastructure stagnat - servers and storage growing very fast. 5/3/2017 9:02 AM

163 It can be a challenge for us as our budget does not allow us to get the higher end SAN units. We have depend on

caching to get the I/O performance we need.

    5/3/2017 8:14 AM

164 We are cost constained and utizing our arrays mor efully 5/3/2017 7:55 AM

165 I have spent millions on building new server farms to replicate data across globe. 5/3/2017 6:42 AM

    166 No specific comment. 5/3/2017 5:51 AM

167 We use Nimble and found growth to be easy 5/2/2017 10:54 AM

168 Looking at hyper converged and similar solutions 5/2/2017 10:19 AM

169 Storage capacity requirements are increasing much faster than our budget allows. 5/2/2017 9:53 AM

170 at this point the bottleneck is having a sufficient base infrastructor first. 5/2/2017 9:09 AM

171 The use of multiple disks slows everything down, but the high cost of more storage is not cost effective. 5/2/2017 8:58 AM

172 I/O on storage is very critical as we're growing 5/2/2017 8:57 AM

173 our shared storage organization hasn't been able to keep up with the company's growth 5/2/2017 7:04 AM

174 Part of managing our database environment is staying on top of this. 5/2/2017 6:53 AM

175 Storage and speed is growing exponentially 5/2/2017 5:44 AM

176 Fixed - now have 3PAR SSD Solutions in place 5/2/2017 2:49 AM

177 always needing more storage and expansion is costly 4/28/2017 10:09 AM

178 we've been adding a lot of SSD to our hybrid storage array. 4/27/2017 10:54 PM

179 It consoledate the process accros the facilities 4/27/2017 10:52 AM

180 Increases in IO peerformance have required forklift upgrades 4/27/2017 10:24 AM

181 We rely heavily on databases to run our business and I/O performance is critical. 4/27/2017 10:01 AM

182 Heavy data transfer from multiple world wide locations (CAE especially) requires an increasing amount of remote

storage a retrival locations, no local data and everything must be accessible to everyone all times of day or night.

    4/27/2017 9:23 AM

183 As a government agency, budget at times will not allow purchase up the most update products. 4/27/2017 9:19 AM

184 Every more complex designs need safe storage 4/27/2017 9:12 AM

185 storage is fairly inexpensive, but implementing/upgrading/managing additional storage is fairly costly 4/27/2017 7:21 AM

186 We are using distributed/scalable storage solutions and more flash-based storage to keep-up. 4/27/2017 7:04 AM

187 You never have enough where you need it :) 4/27/2017 6:49 AM

188 Not only is storage important, but if you are on a budget, types of storage too. New flash and hybrid offerings are very

attractive, but can be costly. The key is getting effective I/O without breaking the bank

    4/27/2017 6:41 AM

189 we do not have engough bandwidth for the amount of machines 4/27/2017 6:03 AM

190 As more applications are reliant on perforance disk I/O continues to be a challenge 4/26/2017 9:14 AM

191 With new applications which analytics are reliant, adding hardware and storage is a major issue. We are moving

towards cloud solutions to address our future expansion needs.

    4/26/2017 9:10 AM

192 It is essential to qualify and justify IT expense, especially depending on Operation vs. finance oversight. 4/26/2017 8:42 AM

193 lack of funding statewide definitely has an impact on local funding 4/26/2017 8:07 AM

194 The business demands require more speed and thus additional hardware to accommodate 4/26/2017 7:31 AM

195 Virtualization growth puts high demands. Cloud is not the answer. 4/26/2017 7:20 AM

196 I/O is needed for performance, in the virtual world, performance is the deciding factor. 4/26/2017 6:57 AM

199 fast SAN is necessary 4/26/2017 2:03 AM

200 Always need more storage especially with demands from the internet 4/25/2017 8:59 AM

201 As a database administrator I am a major consumer of storage and IO performance is extremely high on my list so

storage costs are a major factor in my budget

    4/25/2017 6:07 AM

202 Growing faster than we can procure. 4/25/2017 5:42 AM

203 yes data doubles ever 18 months or so complicating storage and the ability to searcha dn locate information 4/24/2017 12:01 PM

    205 Bottlenecks 4/24/2017 5:04 AM

206 We've grown as a company by acquisition, so HW costs and capacity needs have increased. 4/22/2017 12:42 PM

207 I/O blender effect from virtualization making centralized storage expensive to be performant 4/21/2017 1:45 PM

208 Lack of CoLo space, meant that expasion was limited. 4/21/2017 1:50 AM

209 have to add more storage space which it will bring high costs 4/20/2017 4:13 PM

210 Growth of I/O adding to the server and storage hardware which in turns adding complexity of keeping data integrity

    and maintenance

    4/20/2017 3:56 PM

    211 More storage hardware 4/20/2017 11:48 AM

212 more data, more storage needs 4/20/2017 11:32 AM

213 We continue to stretch the boundaries as we grow people, data, devices, etc. 4/20/2017 10:53 AM

214 Need to change the architecture of applications to design in I/O performance problem. Thing about how data is move

thru the system, not just how well the application looks.

    4/20/2017 10:18 AM

215 We seemed to have maxed out or very close and did not realize it. 4/20/2017 9:49 AM

216 I would like to know what you are referring to on I/O, Network, disk (direct attached, SAN or iSCSI), memory? 4/20/2017 9:20 AM

    217 Commented 4/20/2017 9:20 AM

218 Storage rate is growing exponentially - We have had to break our storage into performance groups to keep costs

    down.

    4/20/2017 9:14 AM

219 Have to keep buying more hard drives to keep up with what everyone wants to store. 4/20/2017 9:05 AM

220 data grows, reports and transactions take longer to complete 4/20/2017 8:45 AM

221 VDI will alway want more io 4/20/2017 8:18 AM

222 Tough to keep up. 4/20/2017 7:47 AM

223 adding storage is always a battle 4/20/2017 6:54 AM

224 Due to budgetary constraints, limited in our ability to keep pace with technology advances and investments in

    infrastructure

    4/20/2017 6:09 AM

225 need constant managemnt and alternatives 4/20/2017 5:46 AM

    226 n/a 4/20/2017 5:45 AM

    227 Larger file sizes 4/20/2017 5:41 AM

228 VM Ware LUN assigmnent for I/O changes the cost of SAN 4/20/2017 4:30 AM

229 More challenging as moving to hybrid environments and balancing with cost 4/20/2017 1:46 AM

230 more demands on virtual systems and storage 4/20/2017 1:45 AM

231 Our experience says it is too expencive to buy hardware, because it means new storage enclosure, new drives, most

effective SSD still expencise and etc. The best way is to optimize application or find solution for better operational

    optimization.

    235 expanding footprint 4/12/2017 6:50 AM

236 I/O requirements are always going up, despite our best efforts to focus on streamlining applications to use this more

    efficiently

    4/12/2017 5:56 AM

237 Every time we wish to expand our storage, we need to reevaluate our infrastructure and sometimes replace it to

    accomodate the expanding needs.

    4/5/2017 7:13 AM

    238 hardware is expensive 4/5/2017 6:12 AM

239 iops are very important to database performance 3/31/2017 10:37 AM

240 Based upon data growth have had to add shelves of storage annually. At the end of 5 year when may want to change

the controllers and storage as a whole, there is a large write-off in undepreciated shelves that must be taken.

    3/31/2017 5:40 AM

    241 Data warehouse 3/31/2017 5:29 AM

242 Bandwidth for proprietary applications have created bottlenecks for multiply users. 3/30/2017 8:15 AM

243 Financially difficult to both replace aging infrastructure, and increase I/O capacity 3/30/2017 5:59 AM

244 Virtualization has become a fact of life for IT organizations. More and more servers and their workloads are being

virtualized every year, with the tipping point occurring in 2012 when, for the first time ever, the majority of x86 servers

    were virtualized

    3/30/2017 1:49 AM

245 We just have too many requirements and the complexity is getting worse as is the need to refresh them. 3/29/2017 11:30 AM

16 Generally not using MS SQL 5/25/2017 10:58 AM

17 Requires more resources than I think necessary to keep this running smoothly. 5/25/2017 10:52 AM

18 We are looking at running these databases on high end storage 5/25/2017 10:51 AM

19 Some times the demands on the DB exceed the infrastructure capabilities 5/25/2017 10:13 AM

    20 Sometimes 5/25/2017 10:08 AM

21 Running Excel coded tools 5/25/2017 10:03 AM

    22 memory utilzation 5/25/2017 9:59 AM

23 SQL queries are slow 5/25/2017 9:57 AM

    24 sometimes slow response 5/25/2017 9:56 AM

    25 ERP I/O has been a problem 5/25/2017 9:53 AM

26 It is infrequent, but happens. 5/25/2017 9:53 AM

27 Even four year old equipment is having issues; our replacement is every six. 5/25/2017 9:52 AM

    28 on some applications 5/25/2017 9:50 AM

29 No complaints with performance 5/25/2017 9:47 AM

    30 accessing reports 5/25/2017 9:36 AM

31 some applications became impacted cause other applications are consuming more I/O 5/25/2017 9:32 AM

32 This is due to architecture of an old Great Plains installation 5/25/2017 9:31 AM

    33 occasionally 5/25/2017 9:21 AM

34 Systems timeout during some high-volume periods. 5/25/2017 9:12 AM

35 Only when a report thats data intense slows the ststem dowm for a coule of minutes 5/25/2017 9:01 AM

36 always wanting more resources 5/25/2017 9:00 AM

37 Constraints on storag hurt our performance 5/25/2017 8:57 AM

38 Mostly due to developer incompetence. 5/25/2017 8:57 AM

39 sometimes, things are slow, replication is slow, out of sync 5/25/2017 8:51 AM

    40 At times 5/25/2017 8:39 AM

    41 Long running integrations. 5/25/2017 8:36 AM

42 Most of our I/O intensive apps are on physical servers so far. 5/25/2017 8:32 AM

    43 Periodic performance complaints 5/25/2017 8:28 AM

44 only during peak workload 5/25/2017 8:19 AM

    45 report generation slow 5/25/2017 8:15 AM

46 We have moved most of the systems to in-memory because of the ad-hoc queries needed by the application 5/25/2017 8:09 AM

47 Great plains is a resource hog.. 5/25/2017 8:04 AM

48 At times, the system just hangs, especially when compiling data for reports 5/25/2017 7:58 AM

49 Poor programming in many SQL apps cause performance issues. I have found it is not hardware causing most of

    them.

    5/25/2017 7:45 AM

50 pos reporting is slow during peak times 5/25/2017 7:40 AM

51 periodic hangups while recovering 5/25/2017 7:32 AM

52 Some of the issues are application level versus database. Just bad construction of queries. 5/25/2017 7:30 AM

53 Large batch processing times getting longer 5/25/2017 7:29 AM

54 When they pull to much data on a yearly report. 5/25/2017 7:21 AM

55 complains of slow response 5/25/2017 7:19 AM

56 It is mostly because of the version of the DB and not really the application. Sometimes it also has to do with a bad

    programing history.

    5/25/2017 7:18 AM

57 Update our Epicor software and now take twice as long to do anything 5/25/2017 7:14 AM

    58 Timeouts generally 5/25/2017 7:11 AM

59 This is why we recently replaced one of our EHR servers with SSD drives and a Gigabit backbone. 5/25/2017 7:03 AM

60 Sometimes high load, may be network related 5/25/2017 7:02 AM

61 At time we have I/O issue due to issues with SAN/Bad spots they do happen still 5/25/2017 6:59 AM

62 mostly with our EHR system 5/25/2017 6:55 AM

63 Skynax Manager can't keep up with communicating devices, sometimes dropping files that need reloaded manually 5/25/2017 6:50 AM

    64 Constantly 5/25/2017 6:48 AM

65 Its quiet often and easy to resolve not much due to I/O applications 5/25/2017 6:48 AM

66 depending on DC latency 5/25/2017 6:41 AM

67 Mostly around Microsoft cube performance 5/25/2017 6:35 AM

    68 Theu always complaint 5/25/2017 6:27 AM

69 Mostly with access large files across the WAN on UNC shares 5/25/2017 6:27 AM

    70 Sometimes 5/25/2017 6:26 AM

71 Staff complains of run times for jobs 5/25/2017 6:26 AM

72 With SQL in general we are constantly tweaking in order to improve UI 5/25/2017 6:20 AM

73 Issues across multiple domains over MPLS 5/25/2017 6:17 AM

74 we modify client access to apps if they are running slowly 5/25/2017 6:15 AM

    75 not knowledgeable enough 5/25/2017 6:12 AM

76 Depending on the time of day there is more server traffic and some plants get longer delays. 5/25/2017 6:00 AM

77 sometimes, but not on regular basis - primary reason poorly written code 5/25/2017 5:58 AM

78 Yes, some of our applications have outgrown their I/O 5/25/2017 5:56 AM

79 Mor an Application problem than MS SQL 5/25/2017 5:56 AM

80 in house DB, constantly request VM CPU increase 5/25/2017 5:55 AM

81 Once we did, but that has been corrected and no longer is an issue. 5/25/2017 5:54 AM

82 sometimes but the datacenter migration is helping to mitigate those issues. 5/25/2017 5:53 AM

83 timeout experience on DB access 5/25/2017 5:52 AM

84 large views or table variables can quickly grow out of control. 5/25/2017 4:35 AM

85 yes but adding some flash drives helped 5/25/2017 4:26 AM

    86 Don't have MS SQL 5/25/2017 3:39 AM

87 Marketing services need to improve data in an iterative manner. Waiting for long MS SQL output breaks the process 5/25/2017 3:04 AM

88 Have tried to split Navision 2015 to 4 databases to keep IO spread out across all 5/25/2017 2:53 AM

89 Few times during a report generation or batch schedule. 5/25/2017 2:27 AM

90 Slow performance on hosting and on internal build servers 5/25/2017 2:24 AM

91 We have consultants assisting with tuning queries and procedures which has improved this recently. 5/25/2017 2:11 AM

    92 Occasionally 5/25/2017 2:05 AM

93 Mostly due to application inefficient query design 5/25/2017 2:05 AM

101 do not use MS SQL 5/16/2017 9:55 AM

102 Limitations of the application version and the only way to mitigated it is I/O performance 5/16/2017 7:59 AM

107 Oracle is always slow 5/16/2017 6:18 AM

108 Generally occurs with misbehaving app or DoS 5/16/2017 6:17 AM

    109 very slow 5/16/2017 5:47 AM

112 We have many SQL applications, and limited staff which causes the sluggish performance 5/9/2017 11:43 AM

113 The hosting platform falls behind on handling storage I/O, which leads to complaints about particular servers, but is

actually the virtualization platform and storage performance or lack thereof. Peaks in usage causes delays on other

systems. Also, backups are often impacted.

117 Application Server wait for database response more frequently and descrease overall application performance

    dramaticaly

    5/6/2017 8:39 AM

118 Yes but very seldom. Hard to say if those events are I/O related or not. 5/5/2017 11:46 AM

    119 Remote connection slowness 5/5/2017 7:44 AM

120 during peak periods, the bottleneck can be such that it requires a system restart but this occurs fairly infrequently 5/5/2017 7:15 AM

122 The systems are not well written 5/5/2017 3:09 AM

123 We are in the process of transforming our data centre management so we have not invested in recent years which

has lead to poor performance and lack of upgrade issues

    5/5/2017 3:01 AM

124 Users complain about slow databases, DBA complain about slow underlying storage. 5/5/2017 12:48 AM

125 Shared server infrastructure impacted when large ill formed reporting service queries running 5/5/2017 12:33 AM

126 There are various DBs that experience high IO and peak access times 5/4/2017 6:34 PM

127 Not as much as in the past. 5/4/2017 4:06 PM
