I feel a lotmore comfortable talking andinteracting with adults, and I feelmore valuable in adult settings.Although people are constantlytelling kids my age that their voice isvaluable, they rarely createopportunities that allow teens tolearn first hand and be heard."

"The skills I learned in this internship will be incredibly helpful in my future. As anaspiring academic physician, the skills of writing a manuscript will always be useful. Also, I learned a lot from Dr. Gupta on the type of leader I want to be." - Gabriel Moore, Northwestern Medical Student

“How to Cope With (And Possibly Prevent) Food Allergies”

On August 22nd The SOAAR team's research was featured on 91.5FM WBEZ

during a radio segment titled “How to Cope With (And Possibly Prevent) Food Allergies”.

The segment was hosted by Lauren Williamson, senior editor for Chicago Magazine.

During the segment, Lauren shares her own experiences as a mother of a child with food

allergies. She says she researched on “where the science is… so much of the research is

coming right here, right out of Chicago.” She then states Dr. Gupta’s data on adult on-set

food allergies, “There was a really groundbreaking study that came out of Lurie Children’s

hospital, Ruchi Gupta, is a physician there, who is doing a lot of the epidemiological

research on food allergies and she discovered that nearly half of the people (adults) who

are diagnosed with food allergies, they get that diagnosis after they turn 18… even though

a lot of people think of it as a kid problem, it’s an adult problem too.”
