Pride, trust and legendary reliability

A world of possibilities on a reliable foundationMuch has changed since the days of custom-assembled trucks and superstructures. Today’s Scania trucks are produced using dedicated, factory-built modules. Scania modularity is the basis for the extra-ordinary adaptability of our vehicles because it enables so many combinations with a limited number of basic components. This offers enormous advantages in the creation of your specialised solutions. In fact, many believe that Scania has the most versatile range of cabs and chassis available. In the long-term, Scania modularity also ensures reliability and maximises uptime, because fewer components means faster repairs and service.

Scania brings more than 90 years of experience to the business of saving lives and property. This dedication has earned us two priceless attributes among rescue specialists around the globe: Their pride and their trust. We never take this position for granted.

Trucks for emergency responseRescue vehicles demand power, speed and durability. But they must also be ergonomically designed, allowing crews to work quickly, effectively and safely.

Safe deliveryWhen rushing to an emergency, the crew need plenty of space to travel safely with their equip-ment. Scania cabs comfortably accommodate two to eight crew members. For those applica-tions where only two or three people are needed, a short cab, a day cab or sleeper cab can be specifi ed. For larger crews, Scania provides two crewcabs: a short six-man version and a long eight-man version. The front section of these cabs has room for the driver and the offi cer in charge, while the rear compartment carries the crew.

Safety in useScania cabs meet the safety and performance requirements of European standard EN 1846-2 for firefighting and rescue vehicles. They meet, and in some cases exceed, the BAS standard of the Swedish Rescue Board and they conform to the Swedish Road Administration’s rigorous cab safety standards.

Drawing on our strong and lasting co-operation with bodybuilders worldwide, we are able to deliver the tailor-made solutions you envision. With one of the few factory-built crewcabs in this range, we facilitate your task by eliminating numerous steps to cut lead times and save you money. Innovations include more adaptable cabs and chassis, standard mounting-hole patterns and preparation for electrical systems. Our crewcabs are delivered with a ‘clean frame’ behind the cab.

Scania CrewCabs provide plenty of interior space for a full range of safety equipment and tools. The short crewcab has space for up to six, while the long crewcab can hold up to eight crew members. All of our cabs have doors that open a full 90 degrees for easy entry and access. A wrap-around windscreen on all of models gives good visibility for the driver and the officer in charge.

P-series Crewcabs can be mounted with a wide variety of axle distances and confi gurations, all available direct from the factory production line.

The traditional water / rescue tender is most often used by city and municipal fire brigades. Normally built on a 4 x 2 configuration, these vehicles can also be built on a 4 x 4 for all-terrain capability with the longer crewcab as an option. The water / rescue tender normally has a water tank capacity of 1,000– 4,000 litres. A small quantity of foam mix, up to 1,000 litres, can be carried. The water / rescue tender can be equipped with ladders and rescue equipment, such as cutting tools and mobile power generators.

Doors open 90 degrees and ergonomic articulat-ing steps that extend and retract automatically are available as an option for greater ease and safety when entering and exiting the crew compartment.

Water / foam carriers traditionally support the water /rescue tenders or operate in oil, chemical or electrical plants. These vehicles can be equipped with either a short cab, a day cab or the Scania CrewCab, and several chassis configurations are available. Normal capacity is 10,000 litres of water and 1,000 litres of foam. They are usually equipped with large water pumps able to handle up to 6,000 litres / minute.

The large majority of fi re brigades need to supple-ment their fleet with a turntable ladder or aerial platform. Vehicles equipped with a turntable ladder reach a working height up to 53 metres, while the aerial platforms can reach more than 100 metres. It is possible to specify vehicles with either a short cab, a day cab, a Scania CrewCab or our low-entry cab. Confi gurations up to six axles are available. It is also possible to equip these vehicles with a water pump.

Scania’s robust chassis gives you enormous torsional stiffness and bending resistance. This combination creates an ideal foundation for the depend able mounting of even the highest turntable ladders and aerial platforms.

Rescue vehicles intended for airport use are highly advanced compared to conventional rescue vehicles and must meet a range of requirements, including international and domestic aviation standards. Because the terrain surrounding air-ports often does not permit the use of conven-tional rescue vehicles, airport rescue vehicles are built to handle on-road and off-road conditions. They are often equipped with super-single tyres to provide increased ground clearance and a good ability to climb over obstacles. Always equipped with an automatic gearbox, a 4 x 4 or 6 x 6 chassis configuration is used.

A selection of special power take-offs driven from the automatic gearbox are available for these applications.

Cab alternatives are either a sleeper cab or the Scania CrewCab. The water / foam tanks normally have a capacity of 4,000 –10,000 litres of water and 400 –1,000 litres of foam.

Imagine a vehicle so fl exible that it can leave the scene and return in minutes as a water / foam tanker, or even a fully equipped ambulance. Rescue special-ists – from forest fi re-fi ghters to industrial applica-tions – are quickly embracing this innovative hook-lift technology that changes your reaction strategy, how effectively your team can function and even total costs over time. Robust chassis with-stand the tough stresses generated when loading and unloading heavy cargoes on uneven terrain. A three-axle chassis is commonly used with a day or a sleeper cab.

Rear-steer confi gurations are available for applications requiring a tighter turning radius.

An ergonomic masterpieceScania rescue vehicles work in harmony with your crew like a willing horse works with its rider. Entering and exiting the cab is facilitated by sturdy, well-placed yellow grabrails and extra-wide doors that swing open a full 90 degrees. Broad steps open automatically to reduce the accumulation of snow and ice. Inside there is generous space and easy-to-fi nd red seatbelts. The ergonomically designed driver’s station is an asset in challenging transit situations and complements the famous driveability of Scania trucks to keep your crew safe and comfortable.

Our exceptional reputation continues to spread worldwide. Scania recently celebrated 90 years of dedicated service to fi re and rescue specialists. In the Nordic countries, with some of the most demanding safety standards in the world, Scania is the fi rst choice in more than 95% of all fi re and rescue brigades. Similar levels of loyalty can also be found throughout the UK and many parts of Europe, Asia and Australia. We’re proud of this achievement. After all, what could be a better recommendation for Scania’s reliability and trustworthiness than several generations of rescue workers who will settle for nothing less?
