Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Greetings, and welcome to a new school year at Bellefonte Area High School! I hope you enjoyed your summer and had the opportunity to spend some relaxing time with your family. My name is Elizabeth Fegert and I will be your child’s English teacher this year. As your child’s teacher, I will develop him or her as a reader, writer, speaker, and critical thinker. To do this, we will read classic and contemporary literature; write informative and argumentative essays; engage in discussions and debates; and work together to solve the various challenges your adolescent will encounter in years to come. I believe that it is my job to prepare students for active citizenship, and I look forward to doing so. In return, I expect your child to be prepared to think, question, explore, and learn. This means arriving to class on time; bringing a three-ring binder, text, and writing utensil to class every day; and actively participating in all classroom activities. I expect students to turn in assignments on time, keep up with the reading, and put forth their best effort when completing all papers and projects. To help your child succeed in my class, I will need your help to monitor his or her progress from home. Please create a PowerSchool Log-in and check your child’s account regularly, and contact me immediately with any questions or concerns. Along with this letter I am sending home my syllabus so that you may read and sign the document. The syllabus explains my course content, expectations, grading policy, and required materials. I ask that you review this sheet carefully with your child so that you both know what to expect this year. I would also ask that you review the Student Handbook, as some policies and procedures have changed. I am always available if you have any questions regarding my course or your child’s progress. The best way to reach me is via e-mail at [email protected], but you can reach me by phone as well; the school phone number is 814-355-4833, and my extension is 8225. I genuinely encourage and welcome all communication throughout the school year. I look forward to communicating with you in the near future and I hope to meet you in person on Back-to-School Night. Sincerely,

Mrs. Elizabeth Fegert High School English Department Chair Advanced Placement Literature and Composition Teacher Tenth Grade English Teacher
