One There was once a man who had seven sons, and last of all one daughter. Although the little girl was very pretty, she was so weak and small that they thought she could not live; but they said she should at once be christened.

So the father sent one of his sons in haste to the spring to get some wa-ter, but the other six ran with him. Each wanted to be first at drawing the water, and so they were in such a hurry that all let their pitchers fall into the well, and they stood very foolishly looking at one another, and did not know what to do, for none dared go home. In the meantime the father was uneasy, and could not tell what made the young men stay so long. Surely, said he, the whole seven must have forgotten themselves over some game of play; and when he had waited still longer and they yet did not come, he flew into a rage and wished them all turned into ravens. Scarcely had he spoken these words when he heard a croaking over his head, and looked up and saw seven ravens as black as coal flying round and round. Sorry as he was to see his wish so fulfilled, he did not know how what was done could be undone, and comforted himself as well as he could for the loss of his sev-en sons with his dear little daughter, who soon became stronger and every day more beautiful.

For a long time she did not know that she had ever had any brothers; for her father and mother took care not to speak of them before her: but one day by chance she heard the people about her speak of them. Yes, said they, she is beautiful indeed, but still tis a pity that her brothers should have been lost for her sake. Then she was much grieved, and went to her father and mother, and asked if she had any brothers, and what had become of them. So they dared no longer hide the truth from her, but said it was the will of Heaven, and that her birth was only the innocent cause of it; but the little girl mourned sadly about it every day, and thought herself bound to do all she could to bring her brothers back; and she had neither rest nor ease, till at length one day she stole away, and set out into the wide world to find her brothers, wherever they might be, and free them, whatever it might cost her.

A peasant has seven sons and no daughter. Finally a daughter is born, but is sickly. The father sends his sons to fetch water for her, in the German version to be baptized, in the Greek version to take water from a healing spring. In their haste, they drop the jug in the well. When they do not return, their father thinks that they have gone off to play and curses them and so they turn into ravens.

When the sister is grown, she sets out in search of her brothers. She attempts to get help first from the sun, which is too hot, then the moon, which craves human flesh, and then the morning star[disambiguation needed]. The star helps her by giving her a chicken bone (in the German) or a bats foot (in the Greek) and tells her she will need it to save her brothers. She finds them on the Glass Mountain. In the Greek version, she opens it with the bats foot, in the German, she has lost the bone, and chops off a finger to use as a key. She goes into the mountain, where a dwarf tells her that her brothers will return. She takes some of their food and drink and leaves in the last cup a ring from home.

When her brothers return, she hides. They turn back into human form and ask who has been at their food. The youngest brother finds the ring, and hopes it is their sister, in which case they are saved. She emerges, and they return home.

One day a queen is so annoyed with her little daughter that she wishes shed become a raven. The daughter, because this is a fairy tale and all, becomes a raven and flies away. A man is walking through a forest, and a raven tells him that shes actually a cursed kings daughter, and that he can free her by following her instruc-tions.The problem is, he keeps falling asleep when he should be looking for the right opportunity to rescue her, so she runs out of time and has to split. But not before she leaves him some bread, meat, and wine that never run out. He uses these to persuade a giant to give him a lift to the glass mountain where the princess is now captive.

What Is a Doula? The word doula comes from the ancient Greek meaning a woman who serves and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

A Birth Doula Recognizes birth as a key experience the

mother will remember all her life

Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor

Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth

Stays with the woman throughout the labor Provides emotional support, physical comfort

measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decisions

Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers

Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the womans memory of the birth experience

A Postpartum Doula Offers education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum 4th

    trimester

Assists with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tidying.

Your mind needs more preparation than your body. Nursing is learned, not instinctive, and most mothers in this country have had little chance to learn. Try to go to at least one Australian Breastfeeding Association meeting before your baby is born. Youll see how other mothers handle their nurslings, have a chance to hear and ask questions, and meet local breastfeeding specialists.

Check out BellyBellys Top 5 Best Breastfeeding Books, which include: The Womanly Art Of Breastfeeding, co-authored by Diane Wiessinger. Buy or borrow at least one, and become familiar with it.

Avoid all formula company information! It may sound supportive, but its carefully designed to help breastfeeding fail.

Independent childbirth classes are important and its a great idea to consider a birth doula. Breastfeeding is a basic, powerful biological system, and you can breastfeed no matter what kind of start you and your baby have. But its easiest when your baby is born without drugs in her system, and when she has unbroken contact with you until after her first nursing. Most alert babies breastfeed within the first hour, and that first nursing may be a very long one. Take your time and enjoy it!

Hormones, hormones, hormones! Just like most side effects during pregnancy, acne or pimples is a result of increased hormone production in your pregnant body. In this instance, they cause glands in your skin to enlarge and boost the production of sebum. Together with dead skin cells, your pores become blocked and provide a neat little party pad for bacteria. Acne can vary in severity for each woman and may just be an early pregnancy thing, or may persist throughout your pregnancy.

Acne during pregnancy is very unpredictable so it all boils down to looking after yourself if you happen to get it.

We human species has been breastfeeding for nearly half a million years. Its only in the last 60 years that we have begun to give babies the highly processed convenience food called formula. The health consequences include five times the risk of gastroenteritis, twice the risk of developing diabetes and up to eight times the risk of developing lymphatic cancer which are staggering. Per baby promoting artificial milk compared to the paltry 14 pence per baby the government spends promoting breastfeeding, can we ever hope to reverse the trend?

All mammals produce milk for their young, and the human species has been nurturing its babies at the breast for at least 400,000 years. For centuries, when a woman could not feed her baby herself, another lactating woman, or wet nurse, took over the job. It is only in the last 60 years or so that we have largely abandoned our mammalian instincts and, instead, embraced a bottle feeding culture that not only encourages mothers to give their babies highly processed infant formulas from birth, but also to believe that these breast milk substitutes are as good as, if not better than, the real thing.

Dont pick, scratch or pop acne. It may only serve to spread infection and/ or leave scars

Try natural solutions like vitamin C, zinc, coconut oil and diet modification

Dont go crazy over-washing your face or using harsh soaps. You could end up with dry or irritated skin.

Avoid wearing make-up if you can.

When washing your face, dont scrub it or it may become more angry

Keep your diet in check to reduce and flush out toxins. Cut back foods that contain bad fats, refined sugar and white flour, white bread, cake etc. Dont forget to eat your greens to keep your system clean and healthy for you and your baby.

    Dear Mrs. Lopez,

On behalf of the Red Slipper Event, its 11,000 establishment province-wide and our industry partners, I am writing to express the industrys concern with current proposal by Stewardship Corporation.

As stated in the Associations December 18th letter , we remain concerned with the following issues. First compressed time line for the development of a funding formula that will impose significant financial and administrative burden on this industry has been less than encouraging. Second, despite the inclusion of our Association in Stewardship Corporation Data and Reporting Committee, discussion has been too narrowly focused and the process too highly managed to allow true and meaningful input. Third, the Associations members do not feel that the Corporations Supporting Recycling adequately represents the industrys issues or interests. As mentioned in our previous correspondence, for an industry that may shoulder a significant cost for this program we have been left, to a surprising degree, outside the process.

The cost of this proposal have risen dramatically during the planning process and our members are very concerned that these costs will continue to rise. In September of 2012, the Final Report estimated the cost of this program in 2011 at approximately $62 million. In January 2013, Stewardship has estimated cost of this program nearly $17 million. There have been no assurances made to industry that these costs will not simply continue to rise. If initial estimates were so far off, what faith can the Red Slipper Event business community have that the current estimates are not the equally inaccurate. Please send us better results in the next six months for final decision.

    Your Sincerely,Shabaun Reyes-Plummer

Since the opening of Chicago Family Zoo in 1950, the Society has had an international reputation for taking a cutting edge role in animal care and conservation of the natural world. Among its historical firsts are indoor multi-species exhibits, zoo nutrition residencies, methods for animal husbandry, and medical care that includes successful brain surgery for a gorilla.

Today, there is an increasing need for conservation leaders to guide, teach, and motivate people to protect the worlds threatened wildlife and ecosystems. In addition to conservationists, the Society inspires and engages children, students, teachers, and others among the general public to make a positive impact on the natural world around them. From protecting regional wilderness to creating environmental stewardship through zoo interactions and educational opportunities, from guiding future scientists to pioneering global conservation efforts, the Society sits at the apex of care for animals and their habitats.

In building its legacy of animal care and compassion, the Society has launched two new centers: the Center for Conservation Leadership and the Center for the Science of Animal Welfare (CSAW). These innovative learning and research hubs will integrate a wide variety of disciplines, changing the way animal conservation issues are considered and advancing the science of animal-directed care around the world.
