On January 7th 2016, Reverend Kath Willis and myself, Project

irector !inda Ro"inson set o# for a t$o $ee% tri& to R$anda'

(he aim of this tri& $as )vefold*

• (o esta"lish a ne$ area, +$e actually ave oats out in

t$one$ locations- in $hich to launch the &roject'

• .hec% on the areas $here oats $ere distri"uted last

year'

• /and over the andan Project to Pastor Peter Odoi'

• inister to the hurtin, "ro%en $omen and ive out aid'

• (each and &reach at a R$andan !eaders .onference'

On our out$ard journey, $e e&erienced a serious delay $hich

resulted in us not reachin R$anda at the e&ected time'

3nstead $e had an overniht stay in 3stan"ul and found that all

connections $ith R$anda via e4mail and tele&hone $ere

inaccessi"le until the last half hour "efore $e de&arted to the

air&ort, to catch the net 5iht to Kiali

&on our arrival $e $ere met "y Pastor hema and his $ife and

ta%en to our hotel' We reached our "eds at around three in the

mornin and s&ent aturday recu&eratin and &re&arin for the

unday $here $e $ould "e holdin a $omen8s seminar and&reachin at the unday ervice'

dedicated their lives to :od' nfortunately, due to the

im&ossi"le to ive time to all the &eo&le and so it $as decided

that the follo$in unday $ould also "e allocated to servin

the $omen'

(he &overty $as very noticea"le and most of the children in

this church are una"le to o to school "ecause of lac% of

)nance' adly, there $ere a lare num"er of $omen $ho had

sim&ly "een a"andoned "y their hus"ands'

One such $oman $ho can "e seen on the front cover of this

ne$sletter in the reen dress, she had "een found in the "ush

$ith her three children and at deaths door "y another church

mem"er' /er hus"and had left her homeless and &enniless' he

oriinally had four children "ut the "a"y died of malnutrition'

With funds raised "y the :oat Project earlier on in the year and

$ith contri"utions from the church, the Pastor $as a"le to &ay

ivine8s +the $oman8s name- hos&ital fees and ive her a small

house to share $ith another a"andoned $oman' ince this all

ha&&ened, ivine has started a small $ashin "usiness and is

no$ )lled $ith ho&e for the future' /er &lan is to et the t$o

eldest children into school and educated'

We arrived in the "ush on a cool cloudy day to )nd the $omen

from the church $aitin for us' (hey had "rouht their oats for

us to chec% and as you can ho&efully see from the )rst &icture

under this headin, they are doin very $ell indeed' !ast year

$e ave out 10 oats to the $omen in the church and 10

further oats to the $omen in the community'

!et us )rst ta%e a loo% at $hat has "een ha&&enin in the

church rou&' adly t$o oats have died4 one $as &oisoned

and another %illed "y $ild dos' 3 $as assured "y the other

$omen that these deaths $ere not as a result of nelect "ut

unfortunate circumstances' (here $ere < ne$ "orn Kids "ut as

three of them still needed to "e $ith their mothers $e ave out

only t$o' = further three are &renant and due to ive "irth

shortly, $hich ives us a total of 19 oats' 3f the ones that are

&renant deliver successfully $e should have at least 16 in

total "y the end of >e"ruary'

Reretta"ly, most of the .ommunity !adies did not sho$ u& at

the a&&ointed time and it $as $hen $e had left that the &honeran to say that they $ere assem"led $ith their oats' (he

issue of time4%ee&in is a major &ro"lem in =frica and

etremely frustratin for &eo&le from the West $ho are tryin

to hel& those less fortunate' 3 have "een oin into this

.ontinent since 2006 and have tried to instil some form of

disci&line into those $ith $hom $e $or% and to "e fair there

has "een some im&rovement althouh there is still some $ay

to o

(here $as also another &ro"lem $ith the .ommunity !adies

rou&, in that one of them has refused to ive u& her )rst4"orn

oat' (he Project .oordinator for R$anda has assured me that

he $ill "e liaisin $ith the .ommunity !eader to see $hat can

"e done' 3 $ill "e monitorin $hat ha&&ens here as 3 do not

have any eact information a&art from the fact that t$o Kids

$ere ready to ive out and also that several of the oats are

&renant'

@arly Wednesday mornin, $e travelled to R$anda8s @astern

&rovince to join Pastor Peter Odoi in leadin a !eaders

and re4dedicated their covenant $ith the !ord on "ehalf of their

conference in this &rovince, ho$ever, 3 feel that $e are to "uild

on $hat $e have de&osited and %ee& the conference to the

same num"er of Pastors as "efore'

into the s&iritual ro$th of R$anda, 3 $ould "e most rateful for

=fter a day8s rest on aturday, Kath and 3 $ent to Pastor

hema8s church' Kath ave out ten "i"les that she had&urchased and the !ord ave her s&eci)c $ords of

encouraement for every &erson' We also ave out clothes,

s$eets, %nitted teddies and money as $e ministered to the

$omen of this church community' (he main &ro"lem $as

a"andonment "y hus"ands and lac% of &rovision' 3t $as

over$helmin to hear ho$ these $omen and children su#er

and $e did our a"solute utmost to hel& "rin ho&e and

encouraement to all throuh &rayer and in some dire casesthrouh &ractical hel& also' =s you can see from the children8s

faces on the front cover of this ne$sletter, :od $as at $or% on

this day and race and love 5o$ed'

Doth Kath and 3 had &lanned to travel eiht hours to see the

oats in Ru%um"eri and to ive out 2 oats that $ere ready to

&ass on to other $omen' nfortunately $e $ere "oth su#erinfrom a terri"le tummy "u $hich curtailed our travellin &lans'

3nstead, 3 had a lon meetin $ith Pastor hema and $as

informed that in this area there are no$ 1; oats and several

are &renant and a"out to ive "irth'

On the (uesday $e $ere still su#erin "ut manaed to &ray

around the city at %ey &laces'

With Kath still indis&osed, 3 left the hotel early in the mornin

and travelled three hours into the de&ths of the @astern

Province $here 3 ave out 10 more oats to a rou& of $omen

$ho $ere R$andan refuees that had returned after the

enocide of 1CC; from (anAania, "ac% to their o$n land'

(hese &eo&le have had to start from scratch re4"uildin their

lives and it $as a &rivilee to meet $ith them and "rin the joy

of the !ord' ($o of the $omen needed lasses to read $ith and

it just so ha&&ened that 3 had t$o etra &airs in my "a' :od is

ood (hey $ere so "lessed +=fricans do not smile very much

on &hotos-

(his year8s visit to R$anda $as such an encouraement to all

involved des&ite the health challenes, lac% of slee& and on

occasion atrocious sanitary facilities

3t is im&ossi"le to cite all the eam&les of $here &eo&le $ere

"lessed "y :ods, race, &rovision and love and for Kath and 3 it

$as an a"solute joy to have "een a$arded the tas% of "ein /is

vessels'

(he :oat Project that "ean as a small seed in 2011 has truly

"ecome a fruitful tree' urin my )nal tri& to anda in

e&tem"er, 3 $itnessed nine $omen "ein released from the

&roject as they have acEuired a herd of )ve oats and there are

more to follo$ shortly'

y aim has also "een that after a &eriod of su&&ort, the

=fricans themselves should ta%e o$nershi& and run $ith it

themselves and this has also "een achieved this year' anda

(he door to R$anda only o&ened for me last year and

conseEuently, 3 feel it riht to oversee the &roject until the !ord

directs me to do other$ise' /avin said that, the &roject is

already u& and runnin in )ve locations and 3 am sensin that

the focus must no$ "e on eEui&&in !eaders and assistin in

the trainin of disci&les as o&&osed to just converts'

We have "een reEuested to return to R$anda and &ray

therefore that :od $ill move on the hearts of &eo&le to co4

&artner $ith us )nancially so that $e may return net year and

do another conference'
