THE COMPETITIONCOPPER AND THE HOME 2012

The competition Copper and the Home is part of awider panorama of activities and initiatives that the

Italian Copper Institute develops over thirty yearsas a non-prot association to promote the use ofcopper and its alloys, not only in the more traditionalsectors of industry, but also in the world of design.

Thanks to its instantly-recognisable beautyand extraordinary versatility, copper offers a

wide range of manufacturing possibilities andapplications including decorative lighting, vasesand mirrors, door furniture, interior decoration anddividing walls, oors and radiators. In addition tothe commonly-known and valued properties such

as electrical and thermal conductivity, malleability, ductility and durability, copper is also antimicrobial,

meaning it rapidly eliminates bacteria, virusesand fungi on contact. This new awareness of aproperty inherent to the metal offers designers anopportunity to enhance hygiene around the homeas well as in public spaces and hospitals, where

    infections can spread rapidly.
