Do teachers need to relearn how to learn?

I never took classes about how to use technology in class…

I learned iton my own.

The main idea I got was this:

students are using the internet to learnhow to do anything they want to do.

So I started to do the same.Of course, it wasn't easy,but I wanted learn it, so I did.

I just had to use critical thinking skillsto locate the information on the internet;

I wasn't learning on my own,I was learning from hundreds of peopleI had never met.

What surprises me about tech integration discussions is how it always comes back to, "Well, the teachers need PD first."

WHY?

Teachers express surprise when a studentcan't respond to a question that is similar

to one they answered the day before.

Yet those same teachers can't (or won’t)apply what they knowabout Facebook or Gmailto a wiki or edmodo?

If teachers can't (or won’t)transfer their knowledge,how will they teachstudents to do so?

Do we teachers know how totransfer our knowledgeand use the internet toactively seek answersto questions on our own?

Are we independent learners?

The two reasons teachers don't actively seek answers about tech are:

they aren't very interested in learning it…

they think they need to be taughtsomething in order to learn it.

Teachers need PDon how to beself-directed

learners.
