Seminar Outline This full day seminar will provide public sector officers with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the role and functions of the Parliament and the processes it utilises to scrutinise the actions of Executive government. Furthermore, public sector officers will have opportunities to observe the Parliament at work and participate in a session with a Minister to discuss the Minister’s parliamentary and Executive roles and responsibilities. Upon successful completion of the seminar, public sector officers will have gained a more detailed understanding of their roles and responsibilities as government officers in relation to parliamentary processes. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are provided. Seminar Outcomes Understand the relationship between the Parliament and the Executive in a unicameral parliamentary system based on the doctrine of the Separation of Powers. Gain an understanding of the role and functions of the reformed parliamentary committees system in the scrutiny of Executive government. Develop an understanding of the relationship between government and parliament in the Budget and Estimates process. Understand the role and functions of parliamentary portfolio committees as part of the legislative process. Hear first hand the Executive and parliamentary roles and responsibilities of a Minister. Identify roles and responsibilities of public sector officers in relation to parliamentary matters.
