To all the people that made the difference,

Today is the day when the people of Hawai'i should feel very proud; not only because we arebroadcasting live to hundreds of millions of viewers, nor because we have literally beenshowcased on the 'worldt stage" for two entire weeks, but more importantly, because it is thewonderful, generous and devoted people of Hawai'i that made it happen.

It is you - the countless, tireless volunteers, the generous, giving sponsors and my devoted staffwho worked every night for months, undl 1, 2, and 3 a.m. It is you who went out and didsomething to change the course of our very special State. It is you, the wonderful people ofHawai'i who should take a bow today because you have demonstrated and shared the AlohaSpirirwith not only the International MISS UNIVERSE delegates, but with the world - and

of volunteerism of Hawai'i residents Al and April Masini, co-chairs of the 1998 Miss Universe

Pageant Hawai ' i Host Commit tee.

Al Masini, well-known TV industry executive and many-time Emmy award winner, served as

producer for Hawai'i segmenrs of the Pageant. As the creator and producer of hit shows such

as "Solid Gold," "Entertainment Tonight," "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," "Star Search,"

and "Super Models of the tVorld," he was one of the first sixry inductees into the Broadcasting

and Cable Hail of Fame. Al has done an outstanding job in ensuring that viewers from

around the world enjoy the beauty and diversiry of Hawai'i during the live telecast'

His wife April, a model and acrress, has led the huge efFort to coordinate the million and one

details of the pre-Pageanr evenrs. April provided the inspiration and creativity behind these

special events and has worked tirelessly along lvith her staffand team ofvolunteers to fufill the

needs of Pageant olficials and the many people in Hawai'i and the world.

Al and April have burned the midnight oil for no reward other than to see Hawai'i benefit

from the worldwide artenrion of the Miss Universe Pageant. Mahalo to these two talented and

generous individuals without them, this global event would not be a success!
