How do we live out our lives as citizens of an eternal, heavenly kingdom while we are still citizens of a temporal, earthly kingdom--especially when the two kingdoms are at odds with each other? God gives us guidance and encouragement through the prophet Elijah's life and ministry. In this series we will see how he, and we, are called to be "in this world, but not of this world".

FALL FIRST COMMUNION CLASSES - 4th-6th grade students This class prepares children to receive Holy Communion during worship ser-vices at Faith Community. Wednesday evening classes are held 6-7pm start-ing Sept 21; Sunday morning classes are held 930-1030am starting Sept 25. Registration can be found in the church lobby and at www.faithlasvegas.org. INTERESTED IN JOINING OUR CHURCH? The DOORWAY TO FAITH process will give you the opportunity to explore what a growing relationship with Jesus Christ is and what it can mean in your life. Our next session is Sunday, September 18 - October 23. We will be meeting in the Academy Library from 930am - 1030am. Please sign up in the church lobby. LUTHERAN TRANSFER MEMBERSHIP CLASS If you are interested in transferring your membership to Faith from another Lutheran church, we encourage you to take our one-time Doorway to Faith class on Sunday, September 18 at 11am. DivorceCare is a Biblical journey among a caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences.

Don’t go through separation or divorce alone. A new session will begin on Tues, Sept 20 from 630pm-8pm in them Conference Room. This is a free class and open to the public.

VOICE FOR LIFE RALLY Saturday October 8 from 830am – 130pm The Voice for Life Rally is an opportunity to be educated and empowered to know what God says about various issues in the continuum of life: from pre-conception to end of life. The world and the enemy bombard us with messages of how to explain, define and even make decisions according to our values of life. But God’s still soft voice as found in His Word must be our ultimate resource. Come and hear what God says about 6 key topics of life led by respected leaders in their field: (1) Sexual Purity (2) Infertility & Reproductive Technology (3) Crisis Pregnancy (4) Adoption & Foster Care (5) Planning your Departure Home (6) Biblical Approach to Life’s End. This event is free, open to the public and includes continental breakfast and lunch and will be held at Faith Community. Register at www.faithlasvegas.org. FALL SESSION GROWTH GROUPS Our Fall Growth Groups begin September 18 - October 29. Joining a Growth Group will help you grow in God’s Word, grow in your fellowship with other brothers and sisters in Christ, grow in your ability to put your faith into action and help your church grow stronger in every sense!

Please stop by the table in the church lobby and take a look at our curriculum. We are excited to be offering many studies. Please take a few moments to pick up a brochure. You may also register online at www.faithlasvegas.org. YOUTHAPALOOZA IS HERE! 7th-12th grade youth, join us Sunday, October 2, 230-6pm for a Laser Tag competition against other Lutheran youth groups. Cost is $12 for 2 games, dinner & dessert. Registration info can be found in church lobby. Let’s bring home the trophy this year! PRETEEN MOVIE NIGHT – 4th-6th grade youth Join us for a fun night of pizza, popcorn and movies. Saturday, Oct 1 6-830pm in the gym. Cost is $5 per person. Bring your pillows and PJ’s! Sign up in the church lobby at the “family” table.

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY Did you know that Financial Peace University (FPU) has impacted nearly 100 families at Faith Community? But even more remarkable is that a million dollars of net worth has been seen through these same families! FPU is often viewed as a ministry for people in extreme debt but this is simply not true. FPU is a ministry that empowers people to use their finances in a wise and Scriptural way. Plus it gives you tools to help you apply the lessons into your life immediately. 1st class is free to all, scholarships and childcare are always available!! Classes begin Sunday Sept 25 for nine weeks from 1045am – 1215pm.

GRIEFSHARE A new session of GriefShare began on Wed, Sept 7 at 6pm in the Conference Room. In this group you can join with others who are on a similar path while you trust in the Lord for healing through videos and His Word. If you know someone who is grieving you might consider using the invitation in this bulletin as a way to help them find healing. You may begin at any point in the 13-week session.

CAMBODIA MISSION TRIP DEADLINE EXTENDED Come, see and serve in something awesome! Mission dates: July 22 – August 4. The NEW deadline to register is Monday, Nov 7. Applications and more information are on the glass counter.

MISSION ENCOUNTER: OCT 20 - 23 Experience other cultures without leaving yours! This free family-friendly exhibit allows you to see the daily challenges of other worlds. But you’ll be filled with hope as you hear how God is restoring life. The 3-country tour takes about 30 minutes. We have a table in the Narthex to register volunteers and guests. We also have a prop donation wall. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. You’d be surprised at the odd items that’ll help us bring the 3 cultures to Faith – and they could be in your “toss or give” piles.

ALTAR FLOWERS Flowers today are given by Paul & Donna Prince in celebration of grandson Gavin Prince continuing recovery from cancer. You may provide flowers for the altar on the flower calendar in the church office. Each arrangement is $20 - payment is collected upon signing up.

“A Country in Moral Decline”

Like Israel in Elijah's day, America in our day is in moral decline. And like Israel in Elijah's day, political rulers are not the answer, because our problems and solutions are ultimately spiritual.

Just as God called Elijah to stand in the gap between an ungodly nation and the Holy God, so God calls us to stand in the gap between an ungodly nation and a Holy God. We can stand in the gap because Jesus stood in the gap for us on the cross! As forgiven sinners we can call other sinners to the One True God too. As we do, we can make our country a better place, and heaven a fuller place!
