Dear Oregon Area Community,

I am excited to introduce the Winter 2020 Community Education & Recreationactivity guide! This guide contains classes and programs designed to expandand enrich the lives of all community members. Inside you’ll find courses thatcover a wide variety of interests. We urge you to register early, as many ofour classes fill up quickly.

Our theme for this winter is “Laugh Together, Learn Together.” I love the ideaof lifelong learning and doing so together with friends, family and community. It aligns very well with one of our District’s five core values - Strong Family &Community Partnerships. This topic is particularly relevant as our communityprepares for growth and opening a 4th elementary school in the City of Fitchburg in Fall of 2020 (visit OregonSD.org/Build for frequent updates). As our community continues to grow, our focus on learning and building community partnerships continues.

I encourage you to join us and try something new with Community Ed & Rec this winter. We look forward to laughing and learning together with you in an upcoming class or at one of our many school events.

Sincerely,Dr. Brian BuslerOregon Superintendent

ABC’s of Animal TrainingAges 16+Learn how modern learning theory, applied psy-chology & science-based methods are used to ef-fectively teach animals. The emphasis is on dog training, but the principles are universal to pets. All trainers are not alike, and this course will help you pick a qualified professional, or undertake the training yourself. The instructor has two certifications as a professional dog trainer and a third as a canine behavior consultant Please Note: This is a humans only course. Please leave your pets at home! Led by Daniel Antolec.

Help for Anxious or Fearful DogsAges 16+Fear-based behavioral problems are very com-mon in dogs. Most aggressive behavior is likewise based in fear. Dog owners can question their pet’s behavior and may think of it as a “training” prob-lem, when it is actually a “behavioral” problem. The approaches to training and behavior modi-fication are different, so understanding what is happening and how to address it is critical. The instructor has three certifcations in this field of study and will help you to understand how best to help your pet. Please Note: This is a humans only course. Please leave your pets at home! Led by Daniel Antolec.
