Region 7 would like to recognize SHPE-UF for its outstanding achievements. Under exceptional leadership, the Gators were able to lead the country in conference registration for the fourth consecutive year. 115 of them flew across the country to participate in the competitions, workshops, and career showcase. They were also recognized nationally for having the best professional development programs.

At almost 180 members, they are still in the lead as the second largest student chapter in the nation. However, numbers are not enough for SHPE-UF. They continue to make an impact at the University of Florida, Gainesville, and across the state with their programs and events. All their events host well over 100 individuals per event. These include: BBQ with Industry, Gear-Up Day, Goals for Tomorrow Soccer Tournament, and many more.

Region 7 is extremely honored to have SHPE-UF. We cannot wait to see you continue growing and changing more lives. Thank you for your generosity, motivation, and efforts. Go Gators!

Region 7 is very proud to present the SHPE student chapter at Southern Polytechnic State University as the chapter of the month. Currently led by Isabel Ceron, the officers of SPSU-SHPE have seamlessly incorporated the concept of familia.

Even though they have had great success with events such as bake sales (baked by SHPE-SPSU’s own president, Isabel), bowling nights, raffles, and their meetings; SPSU has faced many challenges throughout the year. This has only improved the synergy within the leadership team to develop aggressive recruitment and marketing strategies.

SHPE-SPSU continues to grow and host outstanding events. Region 7 would like to thank this chapter for hosting the Georgia Leadership Retreat in November 2011! We are certain that SPSU will continue to exceed our expectations and look forward to many more successes in Marietta, GA!

It is no surprise that Joaquin Moreyra is Region 7’s leader of the month. Thanks to his efforts, over 10 students attended SHPE Conference sponsored by the College of Engineering. He has also done an outstanding job in making SHPE-UM one of the strongest chapters in the region.

Before the conference, he went above and beyond his duties as president to prepare his members and met with them one-on-one. His exceptional dedication speaks very highly of his leadership qualities and his desire to see SHPE at UM grow and be successful. SHPE-UM has hosted Accenture, IBM, among others to provide professional development and career opportunities to its members. He has also organized networking events with other clubs on campus. All this, ensuring that all his members are constantly informed of all events and opportunities.

Joaquin is a role model to all his members, and an extraordinary servant leader and individual. Joaquin, thank you for your hard work. Region 7 looks forward to many more SHPE-UM successes!

Alonzo Diaz is the current president at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has taken on the challenge to have a successful SHPE student chapter in a school with a very low percentage of Hispanic students. During his term, he has already surpassed the highest membership numbers SHPE at UNCC has ever had.

Alonzo continues to reach out to all potential SHPE members by having a number of social events and meetings. He also keeps his members informed of scholarships, job opportunities, and SHPE events at all times. Alonzo has been a wonderful leader , especially in the area where he is located. The regional team looks forward to visiting UNCC before the end of the fiscal year.

Region 7 is very grateful to have Alonzo as a chapter president. We look forward to many more successes for SHPE at UNCC.

Region 7 is proud to present Kenny Becerra as the member of the month. Kenny immediately caught our attention at the North Florida and Georgia Leadership Retreats. He is extremely passionate and dedicated to SHPE and engineering. Kenny has been an outstanding member and has joined us for most of our regional events to share his ideas, concerns, and suggestions. Thanks to his presence along with some of the SHPE-FSU officers, FSU continues to be one of the strongest chapters in the region. Kenny, we look forward to seeing your and your chapter's continued growth through SHPE!

Nelson Monterrosa is currently a freshman at the University of Florida majoring in Nuclear Engineering. Region 7 is very honored to have Nelson; his success story is one to share for years to come. He is an international student from El Salvador. During his time as a SHPE member, he has received a Goals for Tomorrow Scholarship and performed exceptionally well at the SHPE Conference. He has accepted an internship offer with Eaton Corporation and is currently taking on a leadership role in his local chapter. Region 7 is very fortunate to have the opportunity to provide an individual like Nelson the resources he needs to continue excelling. Great job, Nelson!
