Regional Meetings: Many AACN regions organize regional meetings for chap-ter members.
Benefits of such meetings include: educating chapter leaders on AACN initiatives and
chapter governance and policies to facilitate chapter best practices provide a forum in addition to the Leadership Develop-
ment Workshop preceding NTI for networking and re-source sharing
Regions 2 and 3… thou not required, have collaborat-ed in autumn of 2009, 2011, and 2013 to provide such meetings. Regional chapters have volunteered to host, were assisted by chapter advisors, and have rotated be-tween the regions. These meetings have classically includ-ed an evening presentation with dining followed by a full day seminar.
Goals of these meetings are... to be affordable for attendees (costs have averaged $50/day plus travel/ lodg-ing) and to be held in easily accessible geographic location. Attendance and chapter representation has varied. Prior to these dates, Regions 2 and 3 planned individual regional meetings, for which attendance has also varied.

Chapter
Contracts
AACN chapters are obligated to protect the chapter and AACN by ensuring written agreements are in place with speakers, vendors, facilities, etc., when hosting a chapter event or for other contracted ser-vices.
Agreements
must be reviewed and approved by National AACN before signing.
Because chapters are part of AACN and are not required to be inde-pendently incorpo-rated, National AACN is ultimately liable for chapters’ contracts. Failure to submit contracts for ap-proval may result in chapter disband-ment.

Why need chapters comply?
Lessons learned:
A chapter had only an email agreement with a vendor to sup-
port an evening dinner presentation. Come the night of the
event, the vendor failed to show leaving the chapter to pick up
the tab. This unplanned expense placed the chapter’s financial
stability at risk. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that
the vendor was no longer a representative of the company. The
chapter’s failure to properly contract with the vendor made ef-
forts for recovery of the funds from the company most difficult.
This could easily be any of us if not properly protected.
Questions should be directed to [email protected].
