Chapter

Contracts

AACN chapters are obligated to protect the chapter and AACN by ensuring written agreements are in place with speakers, vendors, facilities, etc., when hosting a chapter event or for other contracted ser-vices.

Agreements

must be reviewed and approved by National AACN before signing.

Because chapters are part of AACN and are not required to be inde-pendently incorpo-rated, National AACN is ultimately liable for chapters’ contracts. Failure to submit contracts for ap-proval may result in chapter disband-ment.

Why need chapters comply?

Lessons learned:

A chapter had only an email agreement with a vendor to sup-

port an evening dinner presentation. Come the night of the

event, the vendor failed to show leaving the chapter to pick up

the tab. This unplanned expense placed the chapter’s financial

stability at risk. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that

the vendor was no longer a representative of the company. The

chapter’s failure to properly contract with the vendor made ef-

forts for recovery of the funds from the company most difficult.

This could easily be any of us if not properly protected.
