REFRESHER COURSE REPORT
R. M. K. College of Engineering and Technology has organized a two days
Refresher Course on 17th and 18
th December 2013 for the benefit of the faculty
members working in the institution on how to effectively render their service and
manage various responsibilities assigned to them. This initiative brought together
all the faculty members from various departments to network and share their
expertise with the fresh faculty members. Starting from the Principal of the
institution, the Vice-principal, all the Heads of the departments and professors
made wonderful presenations on how effectively a faculty can manage and
contribute to the college and upgrade themselves.

On 17th December morning 9.00 a.m Dr. E.B. Perumal Pillai, Principal,
RMKCET inaugurated the two days course, greeted everyone and provided the
overview of the two days Refresher Course. He welcomed all the faculty members
and insisted on the importance of attending the course. He motivated the faculty to
take up responsibilities with whole hearted involvement.
Dr.S.Bhagavathi Perumal, Prof. and Vice-Principal, RMKCET, delivering on
General Discipline.
The first session was on General Discipline, the speaker was
Dr.S.Bhagavathi Perumal, Vice-Principal, RMKCET stressed on the importance
of discipline and how it can take one to great heights. He addressed all the issues
that faculties face every day and how to keep discipline and effectively manage the
students in the college.
Prof. Dr.K.Balasubadra, Head / IT, RMDEC, delivering on NBA Accreditation.
The second session was on Preparedness for NBA Accreditation,
delivered by Dr.K.Balasubadra, Professor & Head IT, RMDEC. She shared
her experience on the importance of getting accreditation for the quality assurance
and improvement of educational programmes in an institution prescribed by the
appropriate designated authorities. She laid stress on improving the skill sets in the
teaching and learning process and the standards that are expected in NBA
accreditation.
Prof. Dr.N.Sankar Ram, Head / CSE, on Effective Classroom Management.
The next session was on Effective Classroom Management delivered by
Dr.N.Sankar Ram, Professor & Head, CSE. He insisted on developing a
personal philosophy of effective class room management and to treat students as
individuals. He called upon all the faculty members to create a conducive
classroom environment where learning happens with interest.
The Fourth session was on Stress Management delivered by
Dr.K.A.Selvakumaran, Professor S & H. His lecture threw lights on causes of
stress in the modern world while striving for excellence, the symptoms of stress
and how to overcome stress by positive stress strategies.
The next session was on Professional Ethics delivered by
Dr.T.Gnanasekaran, Professor & Head, IT. His lecture focused on developing
leadership skills and following ethical practices in the work place which will in
turn inspire the student community to follow the teachers as role models.
The next session was on Effective Counseling delivered by
Dr.N.Gangatharan, Professor & Head, ECE. The lecture threw light on guiding
and counseling the students for their betterment. He discussed the fundamentals
that are to be mastered by the counselors and the role they play in bringing about
the best in every student. He insisted on problems faced by the students and the
courses of action to be taken to solve the problems faced by the students. He laid
stress on the power of listening.
The last session on the first day of the refresher course was on Writing
Research Proposals and Good Research Articles delivered Prof. Dr.C.Arun,
ECE. He explained how to start research and discussed about the key parameters
in writing the research proposals. He elaborated on how to choose a title and the
time schedule for every stage of proposal. All the government sponsoring agencies
available were also listed for the faculty members.
Mr. S. Subramanian, Administrative Officer on the Purchase Procedures
The second day of the refresher course started with Mr. S. Subramanian,
Administrative officer, presenting a session on PURCHASE PROCEDURE. He
elaborated on the budget for an academic year, about the purchase of consumables
and non consumables. He discussed the practices that are to be followed by the
faculty on availing leave.
The second session was on Effective Examination System delivered by
Mr.T.S. Franklin Rajesh, Coordinator, Exam Cell. He elaborated on the
procedures that are followed in the exam cell for the internal and university
examinations. He insisted that the faculty members should be punctual in their
work. He classified the duties and responsibilities of the invigilators and subject
teachers.
The third session was on “Towards Academic Excellence…” rendered by
Dr.R.Patturaj, Professor & Head, S & H. His lecture emphasized on excellence
as a continuous process. He shared some memories on how his teacher inspired
him and stressed on the responsibilities of a teacher in shaping the future
generation.
The next session was on University Regulations (Old &New) delivered by
Dr.N.Kalaiarasi, Professor & Head, EEE. In the lecture she explained in detail
about the university norms, credit calculations, evaluation and revaluation of the
papers and the rules and regulations that are followed by the Anna university in
awarding an engineering degree to a candidate.
Prof. Dr.M.Balasubramanian, Head /Mechanical Engg. delivering lecture on
Effective Evaluation Systems
The next session was handled by, Dr.M.Balasubramanian, Professor &
Head, Mech. on Effective Evaluation Systems. The session provided guidelines
for setting a good question paper that makes the student to think rather than
answering the stereo types involving direct questions. He elaborated on the
methodologies that can be adopted for evaluating the answer scripts.
Mr.S.Muthukumar, Placement Officer, delivering lecture on Effective Placement Strategies
The next session was on Effective Placement Strategies delivered by
Mr.S.Muthukumar, Placement Officer. His lecture threw light on preparing the
students for placements, the crucial role played by faculty members in bringing out
the talents of the students. He elaborated on the job market scenario that demands
students with multiple skill sets. He also discussed the placement records for the
past three years.

Prof. Dr.P.K.Devan, Professor / Mechanical, interacting with the faculty members.
The next session was on Patent Filing jointly deliverd by
Dr.T.V.Padmavathy, Professor / ECE and Dr.P.K.Devan, Professor /
Mechanical . The speakers being experts and having patents already, elaborated
in-depth about the intellectual property rights, the basic requirement of the patents
and how to apply for the patent.
Mr. S.Senthil Kumar, Associate Professor, delivering a lecture on Motivation
The last session was on Motivation a lecture rendered by
Mr.S.Senthikumar, Asso. Prof., Mech. His lecture threw lights on how to
motivate the student community by adopting some student friendly methods. He
shared some success stories and how could such things be achieved in a given
situation.

After the sessions, feedback forms were issued to all the participants and
were collected. At last, the Principal distributed the certificates to the Resource
Persons and Participants.
