Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Chosen for National EventThe Community Associations Institute, a national organization, has chosen Lake Naomi

– Timber Trails as the Co-Host for the 2012 Large-Scale Managers Workshop to be held in Northeastern PA in September. The Club, along with Co-Host Hemlock Farms, previ-ously hosted this event in 1999 and 1988. Lake Naomi – Timber Trails and Hemlock Farms are the only Planned Communities in the United States to be invited to host this event three times during the Workshop’s thirty-two year history.

Over one hundred Managers from Large-Scale Communities across the Continental United States and Hawaii will participate in this four day event headquartered at the Scranton Hilton Conference Center. The Managers will spend an entire day and evening at Lake Naomi-Timber Trails touring the facilities and inter-acting with the Club’s Management and Support Team.

All expenses for the Workshop are covered by registration fees and sponsorships. There is no cost to the Club for co-hosting this event and the Club will have the opportunity to generate substantial Food and Beverage revenue from the day the Manager’s spend in the Community. The other benefi t to the Club is the regional and national exposure of co-hosting such a prestigious event as the Club gets to demonstrate what a Platinum Club Community in a mountain setting is all about to the best and brightest professionals in the industry. Thank-you for your Survey CommentsAs reported in the last Refl ections over fi fty-seven

percent of the Club’s Members invested 40 plus minutes to complete the Club’s Long Range Planning Survey. In addition to answering all the questions Member’s took the time to write out their additional comments/suggestions.

In response to: As you completed the survey, additional comments and suggestions may have occurred to you. Please provide your comments and suggestions. A total of 696 comments were written which covered 88 pages. The 696 comments were not just single items many consisted of several different topics. So to help the Managers and the Committees address all the comments/suggestions Communications Manager Laura Altemose separated/copied all the issues that each and every member submit-ted into Committee and Amenity categories. Since some of the issues will need to be addressed by a couple committees these suggestions were copied for each committee. This process resulted in 19 different categories with a total of 1538 separate com-ments. The Clubhouse received the most comments with a total of 258. So what does this all mean? Many Committees have already started sifting through their report and are taking a good look at their area to see if changes are needed and/or can be made. Remember one idea can be wonderful for one group of Members how-ever there always needs to be a balance for the entire Membership. This balancing process is not a fast process and considerable time will be needed. The Committee Members and the Management Team want you to know they are taking your sugges-tions very seriously and each and every idea will be taken into consideration. Last but certainly not the least a big THANK-YOU goes out to each and everyone who has taken the time to make their voice heard!

Message from the GM The Club is well into the 2012 summer season

and Mother Nature has given us the “Dog Days of Summer” once again with the hot days in July. I want to thank the entire Membership for supporting the Club with all the events and activities that take place on a daily ba-sis. The hot weather has sent everyone outdoors to the beaches, pools and the Club’s newest outdoor space “The Park at Club Beach”. Members have truly enjoyed this new area where they can sit or play lakeside and enjoy the shade. I also would like to thank the Membership for supporting the Mountaintop Lodge. Experiencing the pro-cess of bringing the Lodge back to life after being closed for almost three years has been so rewarding. Our membership welcomed the Lodge with open arms by sup-porting the Coffee / Pastry Shop and recommending the overnight Bed and Breakfast rooms to family and friends. Many Members have taken advantage of the Lodge by hosting their family gathering, wedding and surprise birthday party already this year. Please contact the Lodge if we can assist you with your next special event.

The main challenge of the summer that gets repeated every year by the Member-ship is that the Club offers too many activities/events on any given day. Families are faced with the tough decision on how to best schedule their time to maximize LNC activity involvement. This is done by design. The Management Team and Com-mittees want to keep you going and you will fi nd that every amenity has something unique for all ages. Please check out the Weekly Flyer, Summer Calendar and the Mobile Phone App so you can better plan your family schedule in advance.

Please mark your calendar for August 18th for the Annual Membership Meeting. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the 200+ Volunteers that help make the Club so special. This year there will be a presentation on the Membership Survey results from the McMahon Group President Frank Vain whose group helped facilitate the Club’s 2002 and 2012 surveys. Frank will give a brief update on the National Club trends followed by a question and answer session. German Summer Fest 2012It’s almost Oktoberfest time again, but before that, Lake Naomi Clubhouse presents

the Fifth German Summer Fest on Thursday, August 9th beginning at 6:00 PM. Club-house Manager Peter Koryttko and his team will have plenty of food, beer, fun and yodeling to last the entire night! Alcohol Policy IssuesAs we move through another excit-

ing summer at Lake Naomi – Timber Trails we wanted to address a concern of the Membership and Management regarding the consumption of alco-holic beverages.

The Club will not serve alcoholic beverages to anyone visibly intoxicat-ed regardless of the situation. Also, as per Pennsylvania Law, anyone un-der the age of 21 is not permitted to purchase or consume alcoholic bev-erages. Even with a parent or guard-ian present this is not legal. Anyone observed giving or buying alcoholic beverages for an intoxicated person or minor may be reported to the police and are subject to the termination of their membership in accordance with the Club Bylaws. Let’s obey the law and play it safe…

Reservations at the Lake Naomi ClubhouseWe strongly suggest making reservations for the Main

Dining Room at the Clubhouse. Reservations may be made anytime by leaving a message by phone at (570) 646-2866 or send an email to [email protected]. If you would like a confi rmation of your reservation, please let us know on your message. In order to be fair, the Club cannot accept standing reserva-tions or window seat reservations. Reservations will be held for fi fteen minutes past the reserved time. After that grace period your name will be put on the waiting list for seating. Reservations for parties of more than eight may not always be able to be accommodated. Reservations are not accepted for the Grill Room or Deck area.

Naomi Pines Spring Preservation Nears CompletionLake Naomi Club is pleased to call the attention of Members to the new “vest pocket

park” that has been created just off Miller Drive, adjacent to the southernmost parking lot. The site improvement was motivated by a desire to preserve a historic site which had been neglected for decades.

The Naomi Pines Spring, believed to be the oldest surviving structure in the vicinity of Pocono Pines, played an important role in the development of the region. Originally built to service nearby farmhouses with abundant water from artesian wells, the Spring was probably constructed soon after the Civil War. The quality of its water was a sell-ing point when the Naomi Pines House was built across the street in 1888, creating a tourist industry in Pocono Pines.

Volunteers began by removing debris from the site last Fall. LNC maintenance staff then did the heavy lifting .... removal of dead trees, dealing with drainage issues, and installation of mulch and decorative stone. Landscaping is now complete except for the planting of a few small shrubs.

The site contains an Interpretive Sign which provides information for visitors, and includes a 1906 picture of the Spring. Two benches have been donated by the Histori-cal Association of Tobyhanna Township, and placed where benches were located 106 years ago.

We hope that members will enjoy a visit to the site, which allows quiet contempla-tion of the rich heritage we enjoy here at Lake Naomi!

Beginning on October 1st for as little as $1.00 a day you can have a Member of the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Ranger Staff check the exterior of your home. Other ser-vices such as interior checks, heat adjustment and alarm response are also available for an additional fee. Detailed information on the 2012-2013 Optional House Checking Program is available at the Community Center, Administrative Offi ce or online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com under the Online Offi ce.

The LNC APP lists the latest Club News and Messages that were sent.

Under Newsletters is the most cur-rent Weekly Flyer and Refl ections. Under the Activity Calendars are: Summer 2012 Activity Grid, Summer Activities Booklet, Kid’s Klub Info Booklet, Summer Fitness Schedule, Golf Events Calendar, Tennis Events Calendar and Sailing Programs.

If that isn’t enough fi nally there is a link to the LNC webcam so you can see what is going on just off of Club Beach. Up-load the APP now so you will always have the Lake Naomi Club informa-tion at your fi nger tips.

Blackberry and IPad users the LNC APP is compatible with only Smart Phones supporting HTML5 however future support for additional devices is expected.

DANGER! Carbon Monoxide Detected!Many families are now installing carbon monoxide detectors in their homes. This is

especially important if a gas fi re place, wood burning stove or coal stove is being used inside your home. What many don’t realize is that carbon monoxide can also enter your home from an external source, such as a propane fueled generator outside. More and more emergency generators are being installed in the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Community.

Recently the Timber Trails Community Association added an addition to the Gatehouse and along with that a new generator to keep the command center functioning in the event of a power outage. This past week during a rather severe storm, power was lost and as planned the new generator began to function to supply power. Approximately 20 minutes after the generator came on; the carbon monoxide detectors inside the Gatehouse began to sound. The Team Members inside the Gatehouse were alerted to a dangerous situation and were able to get out safely. Both Team Members had already ingested some of the CO poison and did need a visit to the hospital for medical attention and were released a few hours later.

Carbon Monoxide is colorless and odorless. There is no way to know if it is present without a CO detector until it has actually affected the nervous system. As was indicated in the Gatehouse situation, symptoms of CO poison were evident in a very short time. A CO dectector is as important as a smoke detector. You need both. Install both today. They save lives.

HoT Topics!The Activities Committee’s next speaker

will be Bill Nathan. Bill is a full-time Tim-ber Trails resident who is a retired math-ematics professor and administrator from Temple University with years of higher education experience at the local, state, and national levels. He will be talking about what is going on in American col-leges and universities these days from the point of view of how students can make sensible choices about where to apply and how those choices are likely to affect what they will learn and how much they will en-joy the experience. If you have a child or grandchild who is beginning to think about the college admissions process, you might want to come and hear what Bill has to say. His talk will take place on Sunday, August 5, at 1:00 PM at the Community Center.

Square Dancing An evening of Square Dancing is scheduled

for Club Members on Friday, August 17th at Timber Trails Clubhouse. Swing your part-ner from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This event will continue into the fall at the Clubhouse. Member John Kaltenthaler will be calling for all events.

Book Club The Book Club meets regularly on the sec-

ond Monday of the month at 1:00 PM at the Community Center and is always open to new participants. Everyone is welcome – even if you haven’t read the book. The discussions talk about the book, the writing style and if it was favorable to everyone’s tastes, but does not give the plot away. This is a great way to get introduced to a variety of books that you may never have looked at otherwise. If you have questions please call Vilma Zabaleta (570) 646-7259. Refund PolicyIn order to receive a refund for Summer Activities it is important to fol-

low certain guidelines. A refund request form can be obtained at the Com-munity Center or online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com and must be submit-ted to the Community Center. To receive a refund for recreation programs, classes and trips, the cancellation must be received 48 hours in advance or the space needs to be fi lled by another participant if the cancellation is under the 48 hour time frame. The refund must be approved by the Depart-ment Manager and a $5.00 processing fee will be charged. If payment for the program was made using a credit card, the refund less the $5.00 will be issued to the credit card, otherwise a check will be issued. All recreation program refunds will be issued the week of September 17, 2012.

To receive a refund for Kids Klub, Afternoon Klub or Kub Klub the re-fund request must be submitted to the Community Center or online. There will be a $25.00 processing fee that will be deducted from the refund. If payment for the program was made using a credit card at the Community Center, the refund less the $25.00 will be issued to the credit card, for regis-trations taken on-line or other form of payment, a check will be issued. All Kids Klub, Afternoon Klub and Kub Klub refunds will be issued within 30 days of the request.

Merchan-dise changes regularly throughout the season and popular items go quickly, so what you like today won’t necessarily be available tomorrow. Special ordering is offered, so if you’d like something you don’t see please don’t hesitate to ask the attendants. Non logoed items can often be delivered next day or in 2 days.

Girls’ Night OutJoin us for a trip to Poke-A-Nose Pottery located in Bartonsville on Monday, August

6th for a fun night of painting and female bonding. Painting at this cute little shop will be from 5:00 -7:00 PM and then it is a hop, skip and a jump over to dinner. Cost of $30 per person includes the studio fee, transportation and dinner. Price of the piece to paint will be extra and are to be paid individually that evening. Meet at the Commu-nity Center at 4:15 PM on Monday, August 6th with a 9:00 PM scheduled return time. Register at the Community Center. Liztech Bead Bash

Join us on Thursday, August 30th from 7:00-8:30 PM for a Liztech Bead Bash! What is a Liztech bead bash do you ask? This is where a local jeweler from the Liztech Gallery in East Stroudsburg brings 80 pounds of beads to Lake Naomi and allows you to make and keep as much jewelry as you can fi nish in 90 minutes. It is estimated that 5-6 memory wire bracelets can be made in this amount of time. Everyone will start off making a bracelet just to get acquainted and then can move on to necklaces and earrings. The cost is $20 per person for this event. Participants must be at least 14 years old to attend without adult supervision. For more information on Liztech visit www.liztech.com. Outdoor Family Movies at Club Beach

The last three movies of the Sum-mer scheduled for August 19th, 26th & September 2nd will be under the stars at Club Beach. Bring the whole fam-ily and your beach blankets to enjoy the show on the big screen right after the sun sets (around 8:00 PM). There will be no admission charge. The café will be open prior to the movie start-ing and for a short time after each movie begins, so get your snacks early! Each week’s feature will be listed in the Weekly Flyer. Come out and join us to experience the fun of the outdoor movie.

Lake Naomi Club’s Got TalentWe want to see your talent! Once again this year

there are two opportunities to let your inner star shine. The Kids Klub will be having a talent show on Wednesday, August 8th at the Com-munity Center starting at 6:00 PM. This opens up the stage to all talents in our third Lake Naomi Club’s Got Talent search on Tuesday, August 14th at Club Beach. If you sing, do magic, are a ventriloquist, or have some other fun talent, sign up at the Com-munity Center by August 13th so we can get your act in the showcase. The cookout will be from 5:30 -7:30 PM with the show starting at 6:00 PM. Our panel of judges will be awarding prizes. Let’s show the world that the Lake Naomi Club’s got talent!

Pre-Teen and Teen Club Nights There is still time to sign up for the Pre-Teen and Teen Club nights. The

Teen Advisory Committee has been working hard planning these events which are held each year as a formal celebration of the Summer. Teens (grades 9 and up) get to have a buffet dinner at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse and dance to a DJ in this themed evening. The Pre-Teens (Grade 6 thru 8) enjoy hot hors d’oeuvres and a DJ in at Timber Trails Clubhouse. Teen Club Night is August 7th from 7:30-11:00 PM, Pre-teen Club Night is August 15th 7:00-10:00 PM. Garden NewsThe LNC Community Garden has

been growing a bountiful harvest this year. Over 50 Member families were assigned a 4x10 garden box this year. All Members are welcome to join in the educational sessions held each Sat-urday during the summer and ending with a Harvest Party on August 18th to celebrate the success of everyone’s la-bors. Picnic Area at LNPBecause outside food may not be

brought into the pool areas, two small picnic areas are available lakeside near the canoe racks and boat launching area on the edge of the LNP parking lot. These areas are available not only for boaters but for those who prefer to bring their own food to the pool. We very much appreciate your coopera-tion in keeping the café deck seating available for those with café purchases and we hope you’ll enjoy sitting lake-side if you’d like to eat food brought from home.

Pool RemindersUse of fl oatation devices are limited

to those items attached to the child in all pools Timber Trails, Community Center and Lake Naomi Pool, with the Lake Naomi Wading Pool being the only exception.

Children who cannot swim must be supervised by an adult in the water or on the waters edge. Water toys may be brought into the wading pool only at LN Pool and may be approved for the CC Pool and TT Pool but only at times the lifeguard feels they are manageable. These reminders are to help assure the best of our Summer days at the pool for all.

Open Water SwimmingClub Beach has been offering Open Water Swim-

ming on Saturday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Swim-mers meet in the Sailing Offi ce located on the beach level of the Lake Naomi Club-house at 5:50 PM to register and swim a marked course with a dedicated Safety Boat nearby. The last Saturday for swimming in the lake is August 11th. Don’t miss your chance to swim with other Masters at a time set aside just for honing your open water swimming skills.Beach Reminders

In an effort to preserve the beautiful beaches at Lake Naomi - Timber Trails we ask all Members to PLEASE be considerate of your fellow Members and abide by the following Beach Guidelines. - Glass is not permitted on the beaches or grassy areas at any time for

any purpose.- Picnicking is not permitted on beaches. You may picnic on the grass of Club Beach or Timber Trails Beach only.

- Fishing is also not permitted within 25 feet of the swimming areas at all the beaches. That guideline should be considered when casting toward shore while boat fi shing as well.

- Personal umbrellas attached to beach chairs are preferred. Small scale shade apparatuses may be approved by the lifeguard on duty depending on

weather conditions and attendance but must be set to the perimeters.- All beaches are non smoking amenities.- Finally, please remember that although we love furry friends, pets are not permitted at any of the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Recreational Facilities including beaches and their adjacent grassy areas.

Attention Dog OwnersHelp protect your dog with the Club’s free Dog Registration Service.Has your dog ever run away from home? Many dog owners have experienced the

worry and anxiety that comes when the family’s best friend runs away, especially in an unfamiliar area. By registering with the Club’s free Dog Registration Service, if your dog runs away, you can help the Rangers locate you in the event your dog is found.

When you register you will receive a numbered tag that can be attached to your dog’s collar. If a member of the Ranger Staff fi nds your dog on the loose, the Ranger can check the number on the Club’s dog registration database, which contains information about the dog and a contact number for the owner.

Applications for the Dog Registration Service are available at the Administrative Offi ce during regular business hours. We ask for 24 hours in order to process the ap-plication. Your dog’s tag will be ready for pickup on the next business day. For more information, contact the Ranger Offi ce at 570-643-6941.

Membership Fairness In trying to help a friend or neighbor, often

Club Members do not realize how much they are actually hurting other friends and neighbors.

Have you ever been asked to register a boat for a friend or neighbor who is not a Club Member or to take them as your guest to a Club facility? While on the surface it may appear that you are just helping that friend or neighbor, you are in reality hurting the Club and hurting your friends and neighbors who are Members of the Club.

If you ever get such a request, please encourage the individuals to join the Club. Membership Committee Members and Club Staff Members are always available to talk with these people about the options available for Club Membership and the ben-efi ts of joining and supporting the Club.Doggy Pit Stops Added

In response to many Member requests, Doggy Pit Stop Stations complete with bags and disposal containers have been installed on the Lake Naomi Dam Breast path near the Lake Naomi Dam and another closer to the Administrative offi ce. The Club has also installed two more stations on Ted’s Trails at the Logan Steele Community Center. Members working together to keep Lake Naomi – Timber Trails clean and sanitary is necessary! Please clean up after your dog!

Tennis Club Championship TournamentsDon’t miss the Club Championship Tournaments at Lake Naomi Tennis. Although

the Adult Singles and Doubles and Junior Matches have already been played, the Adult Mixed Doubles Matches are still to come and quickly approaching. Spectators are invited to watch from the decks as competitive Mixed Doubles are played at Lake Naomi Tennis. Mixed Doubles begin with early rounds and quarter fi nals on August 4th & 5th and fi nish with their Semi-Finals and Finals on Saturday, August 11th and Sunday, August 12th. Times of play are determined to suit the draw and are posted at the Lake Naomi Tennis Pro Shop. The Courtside Café will be open with extended hours as needed for the weekends of Championships. Please come out and show your support to the Tennis Members who participate in this great Club tradition.

End of Tournament CelebrationImmediately following the last Adult Mixed Doubles fi nal on Sunday, August 12th,

all will be invited to the LSCC Pavilion for the End of Tournament Celebration. A spe-cialty bbq buffet will be prepared and delivered by the LNCH staff for everyone who participated in tournaments this season. There is no charge to participants as they are invited as guests of the Tennis Committee. Spectators are also invited to partake in the festivities and if interested in food service by pre-registering with the Proshop. Cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child. All Adult and Junior Club Championship tournament awards will be presented to fi nalists and champions after food service. This is a fun event in celebration of a great tennis season. Don’t miss the big event!

Mid-Season Tennis RemindersNow that the Tennis Season is in full “swing” we’d like to point out the importance of

practicing proper court etiquette. Abiding by simple guidelines helps keep our facilities clean, safe and enjoyable for the entire Membership. Members are reminded to close court doors, avoid walking across other player’s courts and to speak quietly on the deck, especially when others are playing nearby. All courts have trash cans on the ends of the nets for the disposal of empty cups, water bottles, ball can tops and canisters. Please use the cigarette butt container provided at the entrances of the Tennis facilities to allow for proper cigarette butt disposal. Pets are not permitted at the Tennis facilities and may not be tied up at the entrances. Each facility provides bike racks for proper bike storage. Please use them to store and lock your bikes rather than the trees at the entrances. Ring-ers on cell phones must be turned off at the Tennis facilities. Children under eight years of age are not permitted to be left unattended at the Tennis Complexes.

Reminder: Reservations are taken beginning at 8 AM up to 2 days in advance. Thank you for abiding by the Club’s guidelines to assure quality play for all Members.

Recreation Tennis CourtReservations

The Recreation Tennis Courts by North Beach are available daily from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM during the main summer season, through Labor Day. Members may make a one hour reservation for one court, up to two days in advance, by calling the Lake Naomi Tennis Pro Shop at 646-7580 after 8:00 AM. The reservation sheet is then posted on the Recreational Courts Bulletin Board prior to each morning’s opening. Members wish-ing to reserve and play on the same day may do so in person by signing-up on the reservation sheet for play. Members without reservations may walk on the courts anytime there are no reservations listed. A ten-minute grace period is given, after which the court becomes available for registra-tion by another player. Any Member interested in using the Recreation Tennis Courts after Labor Day may play while the courts are unlocked during the day, but will need to sign the daily play sheet as the courts go back to fi rst come fi rst “serve” use after Labor Day.

TENNIS TALK Thanks to all who have made this 2012 season an

extremely active and interesting summer thus far. As I am writing this, we have just completed a full day of tennis, beginning with the

Doubles Club Tournament matches in the morning, followed by our annual Parent/Child event in the early afternoon and concluding with more tournament doubles matches.

It was great to see the courts and deck full of players and spectators. The competition this year is excellent, with many close, well-played matches. It was also great to see many familiar players along with many new players!

Of course, we have many more weeks to go, so keep making tennis a priority throughout the remainder of the season.

Have you seen the Under 10 tennis court at LN Tennis? Junior players taking lessons with McKee Tennis are now lucky to be playing on a USTA regulation size under 10 court which took the place of the Sportwall court which has been taken down to be relo-cated at the Community Center. The backside of the hitting wall has also been restored and lined with under 10 dimensions for our young players. Come enjoy the kid friendly options at LN Tennis.

Beach RemindersAll Members and their Guests are

asked to refrain from bringing any type of glass or pets onto the beach-es. All beaches are also non-smok-ing. The guidelines are in place to preserve our beaches. Please respect your fellow Members and adhere to these guidelines.

Junior Championship Sailing RegattaAttention young Sailing Members, your weekend is quickly approaching. The two-

day Junior Regatta is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 11th and 12th begin-ning at Noon each day. The regular adult racing schedule takes a break these two days so the safety boats, Club sailboats and Race Committee TIKI are all dedicated to the Juniors. Sailors must register to race in advance with the Sailing Offi ce by Tuesday, August 7th. At that time you must also sign-up for the optional boxed lunch and register to use a Club Sunfi sh if you do not have a boat of your own. PLEASE DO THIS RIGHT AWAY as we often have a higher need for boats than what’s in our fl eet and must ask for Sailing Committee Members to loan their boats. Don’t miss this fun weekend set aside in honor of our young sailors.

Family Sailing Tailgate PartyThe Lake Naomi Club Sailing Association and

Sailing Instructors are hosting a Family Sailing Tailgate Party in honor of the Junior Regatta on Friday, August 10th from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Club Beach. Sailing families can kick off the Junior Regatta weekend on Friday night with socializing, fun and the ever popular kayak relays. Individuals and teams interested in participating in the kayak relays must register in advance with the Sailing Offi ce. You can bring your dinner to the beach that evening, which is not a regular Club policy. Although the picnicking on the beach policy will be relaxed for this event, the NO GLASS on the beach policy will not. Regatta participants will receive a voucher for the new Yogurt Bar for a sweet ending to the night. Don’t miss this great night of family fun on the beach with the Sailing Association, Instructors and participants of the Junior Sailing Program.

End of Junior Sailing Program Celebration

The Junior Sailing six week in-structional program ends with the Ju-nior Regatta and the End of Program Celebration being held on Sunday, August 12th at 6:30 PM at the Logan Steele Community Center Pavilion. All Junior Instructional Program participants are invited to attend the pizza party held by the Sailing In-structors and Sailing Association. There is no cost for this celebration, however pre-registration is required. Please contact the Sailing Offi ce no later than Saturday, August 11th. The season’s sailing memento will be pre-sented to all the participants as will the awards for the A and B Fleet Race Champions and the annual special achievement awards. The Junior Re-gatta results and trophies will also be presented. Mark your calendars now as this is a night the Junior Sailors should not miss.

End of Season Sailing CelebrationAll sailors who participated in any of the 2012 adult sailing races and regattas are

invited to attend the End of Season Celebration held Sunday, September 2nd in the Lake Naomi Clubhouse Main Dining Room at 6:00 PM. All the season’s race results and awards will be presented by the Fleet Captains. Don’t miss this opportunity to recap the season, share stories and socialize with your fellow sailors. Chef Paul and the Club-house Staff look forward to serving the Sailing group so please help them to adequately prepare by PRE-REGISTERING with the Sailing Offi ce no later than Wednesday, August 29th. There is no cost for this event but you must pre-register.

Watercraft Clarifi cations Did you know the State of PA con-

siders paddleboards watercraft which means they are subject to the same regulations? That translates to paddle-boards needing to be registered and stickered in the same manner as boats at LNC. Operators must have an ap-proved lifejacket with whistle and no one under 12 years of age may be on a paddleboard alone. Children under 12 years of age with an adult must be wearing their lifejacket.

Infl atable rafts are only permitted off shore of private property if US Coast-guard approved, made of durable, re-inforced fabric and have at least two buoyancy chambers. They too must be registered in order to be used as boats in the lake.

Floating water trampolines are only permitted at private beaches and are not permitted in the middle of the lake.

Golf Course EtiquetteAs a general reminder, we think it

is important to reiterate some of the basic principles of behavior on and around a golf course, particularly at a private club like ours. Repair and maintenance of the golf course is not just a job for the Timber Trails Golf Maintenance Team. So let’s all lend a hand. Fix your ball mark and one oth-er. Replace your divots. If the divot cannot be effectively replaced, please use the sand/seed mixture instead. This is most important on the tee-ing areas as they are subject to heavy use and require everyone’s attention. Also, we ask that all rakes be placed inside the bunkers.

With regard to “tees”, used and/or broken tees should be removed from the ground and placed in the contain-ers provided in the tee box areas on each hole. This may seem like a minor concern, but be assured the build up of broken tees has been signifi cant. So please help us keep your course free from this type of debris.

We all strive to keep the course in the best possible playing condition. The weather has much to do with con-dition of the course. Since none of us can control the weather, we can only react to what the weather provides us. So, when you see the signs that say “Cart Path Only”, remember it is being done so that the course will not be further damaged by the conditions that the weather has already created. Your cooperation and assistance is ap-preciated.

Golf Notes Sunday, June 24th started as a very ordinary day

at the Timber Trails Golf Course, but ended in dra-matic fashion as George and Nancy Schreader captured the Couples Shootout. Finish-ing second was the team of Marshal Butler and Bethany Schiebel. On the way to the title George Schreader stepped up to the 4th tee box and struck a beautiful 6 hybrid that found the bottom of the cup. It was his fi rst career hole in one.

In our annual Parent Child Golf Tournament we had some low scores posted by the teams. Coming out on top in the 6-10 year olds division were Dean and Joey Altemose. Finishing second were Vinny and Grace Lenihan. In the 11–13 year old division the champs were Dave and Charlie Kovalchik, with Scott and Scottie Vansant as the runner ups. The 14-17 year old champions were Bob and Bobby Rigby, with Rod and Chris Drysdale placing second.

In the Timber Trails Memorial Wayne King and Barbara Borretsky captured the title. Coming in second was the team of Bill and Carol Maute.

Some upcoming events are: the Club Championship to be conducted Saturday, August 4th and Sunday, August 5th; the Match Play Finals on Sunday, August 12th; the Labor Day Bloody Mary on Monday, September 3rd.

Couples Golf has been very successful this year with many fun games each week for all skill levels to enjoy. Couples Golf will continue until Labor Day. All golf members are welcome to play. Please sign up each week by calling the Golf Center at 570-646-9060 by Sunday at 10:00 AM, so that teams can be arranged.

A special thank-you goes to Wayne King for all his dedication and hard work on the Golf Committee and the Friday morning men’s league.

Although this Summer so far has produced little rain, the golf course is in great condition. We ask that all Members be very considerate and respectful when playing the course. Always remember to leave the golf course in better condition than when you fi rst started. It’s imperative to fi x ball marks on the greens, rake bunkers, tap sand off the shoes before approaching the greens and replace or seed divots.

When inclement weather strikes the Golf Course we blow the siren three times to sig-nify the suspension of play. All players must exit the golf course, putting green and the driving range. After the suspension of play a minimal time of 30 minutes is the standard until we resume play. One siren blast is the signal to resume play. Thank you for your cooperation.

Fishing Guideline RemindersAll fi sherpersons must wear their current Membership ID along with their Pennsyl-

vania Fishing License (required for any person fi shing over the age of 16). The Lakes Committee encourages LIVE RELEASE of all trout. All bass and walleye must be live released. Please take special care to not over tire, squeeze or injure the fi sh. If a fi sh is deeply hooked, simply cut your line close to the fi sh’s mouth. Remember practic-ing catch and release not only increases reproduction, but allows for sport another day. One last note – the lakes and stream throughout the Community are shared by fellow Members for various recreational activities. Cleaning up your fi shing site thoroughly is essential as fi shing litter like line and hooks can be dangerous to other Members, pets and our wildlife. For that reason Members are not permitted to fi sh (either on shore or by boat) within 25 feet of any of the Club’s beaches.

Youth Fishing DerbyThe Youth Fishing Derby was held

on Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 9:00-11:00 AM at Trout Pond with 40 young boys and girls participating. Fishing equipment prizes were pre-sented to the winners at the conclu-sion of the Derby. Congratulations to all the winners.

AquascapingThe 2011 Pilot Aquascaping project was a success

and Allied Biological was contracted to continue the pro-gram in 2012. In June, Allied Biological along with volunteers from the Lakes Com-mittee planted over 700 native emergent and submergent plants in Lake Naomi around Comfort and Snake Island and are fenced in with green plastic fencing for their protec-tion. Native emergent and subemergent plant communities provide numerous benefi ts to the overall ecology of our lake. All plants were Northeastern ecotypes obtained from a local commercial grower. The plots are surveyed several times a year and many juvenile fi sh were observed within the planted colonies. The Lake Naomi Club has applied for a grant through the Pennsylvania Lake Management Society to expand the program in 2013.

Help Us Help You, Important Boating and Lake RemindersThe Club Beach Safety Boat Operators wish to remind Members of some important

Lake Safety Guidelines. *All watercraft (including paddleboards) must be equipped with an approved wear-

able fl otation device for EVERY person on board and each boater must carry an “au-dible device” such as a whistle, to make a sound signal to request help if needed.

*Lake Naomi Club strongly recommends all Members wear their lifejackets equipped with an attached whistle to be prepared for the unexpected. All boaters MUST wear their lifejackets when the yellow “Lifejacket Required” fl ag is being fl own from the Flag Pole Yardarm on the peninsula at Club Beach. Children age 12 and under must wear lifejackets at all times.

*Boating, swimming and sailing in stormy weather is extremely dangerous! Please pay attention to the weather. All watercraft must be brought to shore as soon as the fi rst signs of storms begin to appear. Dark clouds and wind are signs you need to head for shore immediately. Please do not wait until thunder is heard, because lightening is often in the area as well. It is much safer to be proactive when it looks like a storm is “brewing”.

*Boaters and fi sherpersons must maintain a safe distance (never closer than 25 feet) from all other boats, beaches, marinas and swimming areas.

*Swimming from watercraft is strongly discouraged. Boats get away from swim-mers much easier than people think and swimmers quickly become exhausted trying to catch them. DO NOT DIVE OR JUMP off watercraft as hidden rocks and stumps can cause very serious injury.

*Swimming in the Lake in areas other than the beaches is only permitted if closely accompanied by an attending boat equipped with a wearable fl otation device for both the boater and the swimmer. The boater and swimmer must also be equipped with a “mechanical device” to make a sound signal audible for at least one-half mile (like a whistle) to signal for help if the swimmer were to tire, cramp or need assistance for any other reason. The Sailing Offi ce must be contacted (646-LAKE) in advance to permit Lake Swimming and has the authority to deny lake swimming during times of heavy boating usage or with severe weather pending.

*If you ever hear a whistle on the lake from shore or see something you think is con-cerning, please do not hesitate to contact the Gatehouse (646-2550) to report what you see and hear. The Gatehouse can easily contact our Club Beach Supervisor and Safety Boat Operators by radio.

The Safety Boat Operators have a very large area of water to cover as well as respon-sibilities like running Sailing Regattas and assisting with Instructional Programs. They are there to help you and ask you to follow these listed guidelines to help make our waters a safe place to recreate.

Rules of the RoadWalking and bike riding are two of the more popular activities that people do in Lake

Naomi – Timber Trails. With the amount of traffi c on Lake Naomi – Timber Trails roads and the number of walkers and bikers, here are a few safety tips.

1. The Speed limit on the roads in the Timber Trails Community is 25 miles per hour. Speed is monitored by the Patrol Rangers using radar.2. In Lake Naomi, the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Landscaping ReminderWhen purchasing mulch for landscaping around your home, make use of earth tone colors

and avoid bright colored mulch which does not blend into our wooded environment (such as reds, blues and greens). Also please do not leave wood/branch debris piles by the road side. They are aesthetically unpleasant and can be a fi re hazard. Please contact Association Manager Wendi Freeman for contractor suggestions to assist you in removing or chipping this debris.

Slow DownEveryone needs to slow down. It doesn’t take very long to get anywhere

in our Community. For instance Miller Drive from Rte 940 to Woodland Avenue is 1.2 miles. Traveling its length at 25 miles per hour only takes 2 minutes, 52 seconds. At 45 miles per hour it takes 1 minute, 36 seconds. That 1 minute, 16 seconds could cost you or someone you love their life. Is this brief sav-ings of time really worth it? Defi nitely not. Remember this is the time of year where there are many pedestrians also on the road and special attention needs to be given to the following areas: Miller Drive near the LN Pool, Miller Drive by Judges Beach, Lakeview near North Beach, Gross Drive East, Tanglewood Drive and Hillcrest.

Create an “I Care Parade”. Go 25 miles per hour and everyone behind you will also be going 25 miles per hour.

What is the difference between the Board of Governors, the Committees and the Board of Trustees?

The Committees typically deal with a very specifi c area of the Club’s operation (i.e. Golf, Club-house, Finance, etc.). The Com-mittees discuss matters that deal with their area of the operation and then make recommendations to the Board of Governors (BOG). The BOG is comprised of Com-mittee Chairs as well as At-Large Members and numbers approxi-mately twenty-fi ve. The BOG is an Advisory Board that make recommendations to the Board of Trustees (BOT). The BOT is the seven Member Board that has the ultimate fi nancial, legal and fi du-ciary responsibility for the Club’s assets and operations.

Why doesn’t the Club have fi reworks around July 4th?

The Club has had fi reworks dis-plays on three different occasions over the past nine years and has found that there just is not enough room at North Beach to safely shoot off the fi reworks. Also the permitting process for fi reworks has gotten much more complicated and costly.

Speed Calming Measures begin in Timber Trails Recently the Timber Trails Board of Directors has approved a speed calming project

in Timber Trails. Speed is an ongoing concern in Timber Trails and has escalated this season due to a newly paved Conestoga Trail. It takes an effort to drive 25 miles per hour. It is slow and it is slow for a reason. Drivers need to concentrate on their driving and their speed. The Timber Trails Board of Directors has discussed many options to slow traffi c in the Community. The chosen method is speed calming barriers. Speed calming barriers are used in many private communities, one of which is a neighbor to Timber Trails, the Pinecrest Community on the other side of Route 940. According to Pinecrest’s Manager, the bar-riers have been successful at calming the speed of traffi c and no problems from them have occurred. The construc-tion of these barriers is now complete and they have been placed in three different locations on Conestoga Trail. Please be conscious of the barriers and drive carefully!!
