Reflections from our Senior Pastor
Rev. Cary Stockett
Making No Apologies
About this me each fall, our church family re-enters the yearly task of shaping and funding the budget for our ministries in the coming year. We do this because we believe in the work of the church, that it ma ers.
We believe it ma ers that our church is here… to teach and preach the Gospel of Jesus.
to call for jus ce in society, and for the marginalized.
to offer support for those suffering illness.
to provide fellowship around shared faith.
to be in ministry with the poor.
to provide meaningful worship.
to support those suffering the death of a loved one.
This is why we give. We give not to see what we can get for ourselves, but because Jesus and his church have shown us that the mission is bigger than ourselves. The church is not ins tu on; the church is the living body of Christ.
So we make no apologies for calling the church family into this season of pledging for next year’s ministries. As the late Henri Nouwen put it, we “ask for money standing up, not bowing down, because we believe in what we’re about.” We are genuinely proud of our church, in the sense that we are proud of the ways we get to par cipate with Jesus in his ongoing work.
Our theme this year centers on the word TRUST; asking, Do we trust God? and Can God trust us? Please prayerfully prepare your own heart for this shared labor, and make your pledge for the 2020 ministry year.
