The month of December has been filled with lots of fun and surprises! We integrated the theme of “Food” with holiday season activities and
crafts! We began by introducing the concept of growing food and
explaining how vegetables are born! We read a great story entitled “The Carrot Seed” that illustrates this concept by showing that we first plant a seed in the earth, we
water the seed and the sun’s rays make the veggies grow! We talked about different types of fruit and shared our opinion on food! We
then made lovely carrot and grapevine crafts with different types of material. This helps us develop fine motor skills and our creativity!
Edoardo turned 3 years old on December 4th!!
We wished him a happy birthday by singing songs and eating a
piece of cake!

We also read “The Big Pancake” and spoke about different food we love! Story time helps children
match pictures and the story they hear: this stimulates imagination!! We then discovered the
process of making pizza by reading “Pizza at Sally’s” which explains with clear pictures the steps of how to prepare pizza! We learned new
vocabulary such as “stir”, “slice up” and “eat”! We made our very own pizza and learned about colors and shapes such as triangle, square and
circle at the same time!
We continued working on the alphabet by recognizing
letter sounds and matching them graphically! However, we got into the holiday spirit by learning some new songs such as “Jingle Bells”, “Hello Reindeer”and
“I’m a Little Snowman” which the children loved!! We also read holiday stories and learned festive
vocabulary such as “angel”, “fairy”, “snowflake”, “nutcracker”, “reindeer” and more…!!
We got creative by making some fabulous snowflakes with recycled water bottles!! We sprinkled them with
sparkles and used paint to decorate them! We also used a finger painting technique to decorate our festive
holiday trees that we put on display in the hallway!! With the help of our teachers we prepared some lovely reindeer crowns that we used for our show!! We made some Santa faces with cotton and the real Santa Claus
came to school to greet us and brought all the children a little gift!!
Dear parents, here are some of the songs that we sing during “circle time” every morning!
If you would like to sing along with your child at home you can do so by searching for the titles below on YouTube. Happy singing to all!!
