The global recession has presented enormous challenges for our company, but it also presents opportunities. The management team has continued to work towards our vision to be the market leader in specialised Water and related infrastructure, partnering with globally recognised leading brands and holding a proven track record for projects executed.

Our innovative and flexible approach has enabled Septech to address the many challenged in both the UAE and regional market places. Our success continues to be based upon our growing reputation to be an “end to end solution provider” and at being “market leaders” in domestic and targeted regional markets. This alone has driven a number of significant opportunities towards Septech, and we hope in the years to come, the group will re-commence its transformational growth phase.

The establishment of these two offices has forced us to revisit our forward projections and overheads, to ensure that we have a clear business and commercial plan addressing new markets, new products and services, furthermore required cost reductions to ensure we can maximise our position in whatever scenario unfolds.

Environmental sustainability, at Septech particularly as it relates to Water, Wastewater environmental responsibility and climate change, is a complex topic that has captured the attention of business leaders in the Middle East and worldwide. The momentum around this issue at the very top levels of business and government is like nothing I have ever seen; nearly every leader I speak with is seeking ways to navigate the environmental sustainability agenda.

Redefining WaterSeptech Holdings LimitedSeptech Holdings Limited was formed in 1997 as the parent company to a number of operating entities that would serve as multiple infrastructure operating entities across the Middle East and other targeted emerging markets across the globe.

The establishment of this company introduced the founders to the marketplace of the Middle East through a number pre-existing transactions that pre-ceded in Asia and Australia by the founder and today’s CEO, David Heffernan. From its inception, Septech Holdings became the parent company and strategic board for its first operating entity Septech Emirates LLC. Over the years, the group has increased its investment profile and talent pool to include the establishment of Septech in Saudi Arabia, Oman and North Africa.

Along with its primary focus of providing a number of structured vehicles to assist the emerging Middle Eastern markets, Septech Holdings set up EMtech LLC as a primary management contracting firm. EMtech serves as a direct support entity to pre and post infrastructure solutions for all of Septech’s capabilities. In 2005, Septech Holdings started the first specialised infrastructure pipe company in the U.A.E. under the name, Al Dhafra Pipes Factory LLC, with a purpose built factory in Abu Dhabi.

After operating successfully for almost 13 years with an outstanding track record of completed projects, Septech Holdings partnered with the region’s largest and most prominent Investment Bank, Shuaa Capital. Attracted by Septech’s rapid growth and value creation across all business units, Shuaa Capital decided to take a strategic investment in Septech in 2008. The successful partnership has allowed Septech to vigorously explore opportunities in the Middle East and make strategic investments in countries that offer future growth potential like Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.

The company has established its presence across the GCC to ensure that Septech’s foot print can be increased. A number of corporate initiatives were undertaken by the management team to investigate and establish our profile in neighbouring GCC countries, which has proved to be a challenging exercise. Septech Holdings shifted its attention from the UAE towards “developing” markets to include primarily Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The groups model has changed somewhat, collectively the decision to adjust the business and corporate-level strategies from a standard “contractor” mindset towards a structured EPC/DBOOT specialists will reaffirm the companies capabilities and core competencies. Identifying a number of regionally suitable vehicles with the support of leading infrastructure and financial specialists will provide Septech the directional support to consider the acquisition of brownfield sites or the elementary establishment of greenfield sites, for the distribution of water and wastewater programs. Our successful track record to date has been attributed to by the quality of our outstanding people who have been drawn from a global pool of talent. We strive to excel and to maintain our position as a leading water and wastewater infrastructure company through a highly focused approach.

The future success of Septech Holdings is driven by the committed and combined vision of the founders of Septech and Shuaa Capital, allowing the group to further cement its position as the market leader in innovative water solutions.

Anis Bilbi, Executive Director, SHUAA Capital

Anis received his MBA from New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business and his dual BSc in Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering from Northwestern University. Before Anis joined Shuaa Partners in 2008, he served as a Managing Director for Fortress Investment Group and Amaranth in London. Before joining Amaranth, Anis spent more than 7 years at CIBC World Markets where he was most recently an Executive Director in the European Financial Sponsor Coverage and Leveraged Finance team. His responsibilities at CIBC included the origination and execution of leveraged acquisition financings across all parts of the capital structure including senior debt, junior debt and private equity investments.

Sharon Bartlett, Corporate Compliance Officer, Septech

Sharon Bartlett holds dual degrees in Marketing and Psychology earned with Honors at Chisholm Institute of Technology. In 1997, co-founded launched Septech. For the past 12 years, Bartlett has been responsible for the diversification of the company’s portfolio which today, caters to four sub markets: water, wastewater, marina and precast infrastructure. Bartlett has steered the company towards partnering with the leaders of international business, GE, Pacsoft MMS and Bellingham Marine. Committed to the growth of the economy and industry of the Middle East, Bartlett is an active member of the Young Presidents Organization Emirates Chapter.

Sameer Al Ansari, Chief Executive Officer, SHUAA Capital

Al Ansari was previously Group Chief Financial Officer for The Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He was involved in the establishment of Dubai Holding in 2004 and, in October of the same year, founded DIC and headed the firm as its Executive Chairman and CEO. In September 2009, Al Ansari was also appointed as CEO of SHUAA Capital. Al Ansari’s achievements in the financial sector were recognized when he was awarded the Young Arab Leaders’ Award from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dec 2005. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Loughborough University in July 2009 for outstanding achievement and leadership in finance.

David Heffernan, Chief Executive Officer, Septech

Australian born, David Heffernan is the co – founder and Chief Executive Officer of Septech. Heffernan completed his studies in Melbourne, Australia, securing qualification with the highest level of accreditation in both building studies and business. With over 20 years of regional and international business experience across diverse array of industries: water, waste water, infrastructure manufacturing, engineering, property and bloodstock. Heffernan holds Director positions for Heffernan Enterprises, Global Project Solutions, Al Dhafra Pipes and Global Luxury Resorts as well as the position of Chairman for HII Limited Investment Group. As a dedicated member of the Young Presidents Organization in both Australia and Dubai, Heffernan actively contributes to the development of international business practices, standards and emerging talent.

Ashruf Kamel, Chief Strategy Officer, Septech

Ashruf Kamel holds a double degree with honors in both economics and management in Australia. He is internationally experienced in the generation, setup and establishment of utilities infrastructure companies. Ashruf moved to the Middle East four years ago to launch a multinational manufacturing company which in June 2006 was bought out by Septech. Acquired as part of the sale, Ashruf moved into the company and today serves as Chief Strategy Officer. Ashruf is responsible for Septech’s strategic growth throughout the MENASA region including regional management, corporate governance, and transparency.

Supplying water of adequate quality and in sufficient quantities is one of the major challenges facing modern society across the globe and particularly in the Middle East. The region is currently experiencing a population and developmental boom, and at the same time many people still do not have a consistent access to water, due to a limitation in resources or an aspect of pollution created by domestic and industrial wastewater. The provision of fresh water, its treatment and management is one of the most difficult challenges faced and one of the most important to resolve.

Iwan Baxter Hughes, Chief Operating Officer

Iwan Baxter Hughes holds a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering since 1989. He has more than 20 years experience in project administration and management. Iwan has personally managed several major international construction projects throughout the MENASA region. His major projects include water, wastewater and marina infrastructures for The Atlantis, Saadiyat Island, Tigerwoods, Dubai Festival City Marina, Dubai Yacht Club Marina, Jumeirah Beach Hotel Marina and Yas Marina. He has always been determined to deliver projects on time, within budget and in excess of client expectations.

David Ordman, Chief Financial Officer

David Ordman holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, and was trained as a charted accountant prior to joining Price Waterhouse. With over 15 years finance and consulting experience, David has held a number of Chief Financial Officer positions and was employed by the United Utilities Plc. He served as a Chief Financial Officer for the Tallinn Water Company, Estonia and the Sofia Water Company, Bulgaria, which are high profile O&M PPP contracts in partnership with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development. David recently completed a joint MBA program at London Business School, UK, and Columbia University, New York.

As a leader in the UAE water infrastructure industry, Septech is strategically geared to expand beyond its historical roots, infi ltrating and growing its presence throughout the Middle East. Centrally managed from the UAE, with multiple manufacturing facilities spread throughout the seven Emirates and corporate offi ces in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, Septech has a solid foundation upon which to service and support its clients and base future growth. Currently the company is in the process of establishing the fi rst of our regional offi ces in Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and North Africa, capitalising on the growth of the rapidly developing the Middle East water and wastewater, infrastructure market.

Septech’s newest offering, mobile water technologies and services, provides an innovative and immediate solution to this problem. Able to respond any time of the day, week or year, Septech with its fleet of mobile water treatment units powered by GE technology is able to convert either local sea or brackish water into pure water, on site and on an as need basis. Septech’s fleet of mobile water treatment units have been custom built to service multiple industries including construction, power, chemical processing, hydrocarbon processing, general industrial, microelectronics, pharmaceutical, mining and mineral processing, primary metals, food and beverage, commercial and institutional, medical, municipal and transportation. Capable of providing fresh water in response to planned or unexpected plant or industrial emergency situations, facility maintenance, shutdown, process expansion, hydro testing, chemical cleaning, facility start-up, boiler fill, condenser and pipe cleaning, the units are highly flexible both in their application and in the solution provided.

With a dedicated team of highly qualified engineers serving as Field Service Representatives (FSR) 24-hrs a day, 365 days a year, Septech is able to provide all aspects of mobile water treatment from service and production, system analysis and design through to installation, maintenance, upgrades and emergency response. Our emergency response system, managed by the 800 SEPTECH (800 7378 324) toll free service number, allows for the dispatch of mobile treatment units, staff, access to a complete analytical laboratory, application and engineering consultants, plus full-service regional and control centres at any time of the day.
