Dear Friends: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ! Those words take on deeper meaning during these times of economic and health uncertainties. No matter what happens in our world, we are the recipients of grace and peace through our faith in Jesus. Remember, no one can take that away from you. It’s at times like these that the words of Jesus become so much more
relevant: “Do not store up treasures on earth….but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19-20. We have been working hard at Our Redeemer to keep contact with you during this coronavirus pandemic. With so many of us over 60+, we are a particularly vulnerable community. We are trying to move into the online world. Hopefully you have been receiving emails with videos of sermons, Bible studies, mid-week skits, the reading of children’s books, and information about the ministry at Our Redeemer. Having been forced into this on-line world, we hope to continue making these items available after the crisis is over. This has been a difficult time for many. Not only have we reached out to you on-line, we have also opened up our food pantry during the week to help as many people as possible. And we are continuing to pay our staff, at least until the first of April. In order to continue all these ministries, we need your continued financial support. If you have lost your job or suffered financial setbacks because of this crisis, rest assured, you are not expected to fulfill your pledge to the church. But if you are able, we need your continued support. You can sign up for automatic withdrawal with Vanco on our website, www.orcgg.org. Or you can mail your tithes to the church or drop them by the office Mon-Thursday mornings. You are a generous congregation, and we thank God for your continued generous support of the many ministries of Our Redeemer. We still don’t know when the church will be open again for Sunday morning worship. We are currently planning on-line experiences for Holy Week and Easter. As we know more, we will contact you. I did get a laugh from Tom Kent when he said: I guess Jesus won’t be resurrected this Easter, he’s staying in the tomb and practicing social distancing. Fortunately, for all of us, Jesus is raised and HE is NOT practicing social distancing. Jesus is with us always. Even in our isolation, Jesus is with us with words of comfort, hope, and peace. I pray that in the midst of this all, you will experience the presence of God with you, each and every day. Need In Christ,
Pastor Brian

Reflections from the Intern Pastor by Pastor Jennifer Garcia
What is Pastor Jennifer working on?
My prayers are with you all. I hope you are healthy and finding social connection in a time of physical distancing. I pray that you feel God’s love in abundance.
Last month, I wrote about the candidacy process—the steps to becoming a pastor in the ELCA. This internship is a big step in that process, and I thank you
all for letting me learn alongside you this year.
One of the parts of this internship is to do an internship project. There is a lot of freedom to customize the project to the congregation’s needs and the intern’s passions and talents, but the primary requirement is that the intern do something new in the congregation from start to finish. This lets us get practice starting something, recruiting volunteers, executing a plan, following through, and reflecting on the process.
There are different categories internship projects should fall into, including stewardship, advocacy, and multiculturalism. I chose the area of evangelism, because it is not something I studied a lot in seminary, and it is something I would venture to say many Lutherans find challenging.
For my project, I have been interviewing people who oversee evangelism efforts through different congregations in the area. I have met with people from Cottonwood, Fullerton Free, The Rock, Emanuel Lutheran, Grace EV Free, and Messiah Lutheran. I also went to a kick-off event for Harvest Orange County’s crusade, as well as a conference through our own Synod (regional office) on evangelism in the ELCA.
It has been an honor to meet with such a diverse group of Christians who all love Jesus and want other people to love Jesus, too. We have different approaches for how to go about that, and I find it encouraging that people are listening to the Holy Spirit for how best to connect with people in their community.
I am currently sorting through what I have learned from the interviews, and I look forward to sharing it with you soon. Please watch for announcements about that in the coming weeks.

Men's Breakfast No Meeting for the month of April
When the Men's Breakfast Fellowship meets again we encourage all men of the church to attend our next meeting. We had planned to have Lori Martin speak about the effects that Alzheimer's has on family and friends. She has cared for her dad and learned quite a bit on the journey to share with us. Please keep your donations of cans and bottles to help support our Compassion International students for our next meeting.
Book Circle meets the fourth Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. for fellowship & discussion of a variety of literature, current & classic, fiction & non-fiction. All avid readers at ORLC & their friends are invited to join us. Call Ron Stearns at (714) 891-9462 for more information.
