redeemer by the sea lutheran church, kindergarten...
TRANSCRIPT
The month of June has a lot going
on at Redeemer:
Fire Relief. We are so thankful to
God and to the quick and effective
response of our firefighters and
emergency workers! Much of the
600 acres that were burned in the
“Poinsettia Fire” of May 14th
was just
a stone’s throw from Redeemer by
the Sea. We had only a couple of
small trees and a slight spot on our
new fellowship patio canopy get
burned from embers landing on our
property, but it clearly could have
been much worse! For many of our
neighbors, however, it was worse.
Our congregation is in partnership
with North Coast Calvary Chapel,
Daybreak Church, and The Fields
Church on a unified action team to
work together as the Body of Christ
in Carlsbad to provide relief to those
who have incurred loss, or who are
displaced from their homes for
repairs and cleanup. There are an
estimated 100 families with varying
levels of fire, smoke, ash and water
damage. Some families have
complete loss of their home, or partial loss of home,
furnishings and belongings. Through the action team and
“family advocates” we will be providing support to as
many affected families as possible. A fund is being setup
at Redeemer that will be directed to individuals, specific
needs, or agencies associated with fire relief. We believe
that we have been “spared to serve.”
Father’s Day and Patio Dedication! In the midst of
recovering from the fires, Redeemer is taking time to
celebrate! We will serve lunch on the new patio at Noon
on Sunday June 15th to celebrate our fathers and the men
of our congregation. We will also join in prayer to
dedicate the new patio and shade structure for the glory of
God and for the use of God’s people. There have been
many hours of work put into the planning, design and
construction of these facilities that we are just now
beginning to enjoy. We look forward to many joyous
gatherings on the new fellowship patio that God has
blessed us with.
Family Ministry. It has been several months in process,
but we are almost ready to extend a call. During the last
half of May, we hosted our top three candidates for the
position of Family Ministry Director. During those visits,
the candidates enjoyed meeting with youth, adults and
staff of the congregation in a variety of settings. On June
8th
, the congregation will meet to discuss these candidates
and pray. With God’s guidance we will extend a call to the
candidate that we believe He has chosen for our
congregation. Please be in prayer for the call service, as
well as the call committee and the candidates. We are very
excited that Redeemer is preparing to bring this new staff
member on board and we are greatly anticipating the new
and expanded ministry that they will enable.
Film. On June 15th
we begin our “God on Film” summer
movie sermon series. This year’s lineup will include some
blockbuster movies as well as some movies from years
ago. This year, happily, we have seen more Christian
movies hitting the big screen. So this summer, we are
excited to include four faith-based movies that you are
sure to want to see. As always, the focus of each message
is not the movie itself, but rather the discussions of God
they prompt and the matters of faith they inspire. We
believe you are going to be blessed by this summer’s God
on Film! Also, will be giving a free movie ticket to first-
time local visitors, so bring a friend!
“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. They
rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your
righteousness.” (Psalm 89:15-16)
In thanksgiving and praise, Pastor Augie

“a lighthouse to our community and the world”
FIRE, FATHERS, FAMILY AND FILM... Pastor Augie
SUNDAY SCHOOL Rhonda Sutherlin Exciting times at Redeemer by the Sea
as our Sunday School continues to
grow! In early May the children
learned why God gave us mothers.
And to show their moms just how
much they are loved and appreciated,
each child made a fingerprint painting
as a Mother’s Day gift.
We are currently working on a “special”
gift for Father’s Day and you won’t
want to miss out on this one!!!
In preparation for a Rally Day Sunday
performance, the children are
practicing on Sunday mornings from
9:45 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. during
Enrichment with Gary Wilson our Choir
Director. It’s a performance you won’t
want to miss, so please bring your
children to join in. There are Adult
Bible Study classes offered during the
same time, so you can stay & join a
class or fellowship with first service
members outside over a cup of coffee.
We are planning a Sunday School
Picnic in conjunction with the annual
Church Picnic in September, so stay
tuned for more information & how you
can help.
I am always looking for parents who
would like to become involved in the
Sunday School program in any way.
Please see me at church, call me at 760
-518-7449 or email me at
([email protected]) if you are
interested.
Thanks for your support.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRANTS Jo Voertman BRIDGE Jo Voertman
The bridge ladies arrived at the home of George Ann
Barnes and after enjoying strawberry cheesecake the card
games began.
First place went to Marie Voien and Carolyn Schmaltz and
Faye Bacon split second prize for probably the first time
we have ever had a tie.
Our next bridge session will be on Friday, June 27, 2014
at 12:30 p. m. at the home of Evelyn Meyer.
We play from twelve-thirty until four on the fourth Friday
of every month except December (third Friday in
November). Usually there are two tables. Light
refreshments are served.
Anyone interested in joining our group may contact the
Bridge Co-ordinator, Alice Lehmann,
[email protected], 1-760-941-1197.
We celebrated the May birthdays of Stella Berrier, Dorothy
Dahlen, Hal Dotterer and Audrey Wickstrand and the June
birthdays of Russ Hanthorn and Mickey Scoffin on
THURSDAY May 29 at Carlsbad by the Sea, in their lovely,
intimate chapel/meeting room/dining area. Apparently
chicken has some significance to Cobb Salad which was one
of the entrees offered.
Two hundred twenty-eight dollars was donated to the
Redeemer by the Sea Building Fund.
Watch this space for information about the upcoming July
luncheon.
Everyone is welcome to join us but reservations are needed.

COMMUNITY HELPING HANDS DAY OF SERVICE Tom Burke
While we continue to enjoy the clarity
of our new sound system, we have not
forgotten the plans to design and then
build the Choir / Band area raised
floor. The goal is to minimize the effort
necessary to reconfigure between the
Choir and Band setup, while at the
same time enhancing the look of the
area. To help with the planning, we will
visit a Church that has the same
‘shared’ space issues that we have. We
also plan to review the possibility of
adding a loop-system that transmits
the sound in a way compatible with
modern hearing aids.

On April 26th, a group from RBTS (Dan
& Ellen Bitner, Jim Brunner, Thiyani
Miltner, Jill Rutan, and Tom Burke)
participated in the First Annual (we
hope) Community Helping Hands Day
of Service. We choose to work at Casa
de Amparo. It was established in 1978
for treating and preventing child abuse
in San Diego County. They also work
with youth that have been discharged
from foster care when they reach 18
years of age.
We steam-cleaned and washed two
company cars, steam cleaned carpets,
deep cleaned the kitchen, sanitized
children’s toys and
books and power
washed playground
equipment. It was a lot
of work but it was for a
worth while cause and
we enjoyed giving
back. As you can see
by the picture, we wore
our RBTS shirts so that
they would know who
we are.
SOUND IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE Dan Bitner
What is Christian Giving?
Giving is all about grace.
2Cor. (8:1) Paul reminded them about
the grace of God have given to
Macedonian churches in Greece. Randy
Alcorn author of “The Treasure
Principle” says, “Giving is not a luxury
of the rich, but a privilege of the poor.”
How often do we think when I get to
the point where I’ve got enough - then
I’ll start giving. You know what? That’s
not the message of the Bible at all.
And 2 Cor 8 - is about believers who
had very little. They were poor – but
their poverty welled up in great
generosity- giving far beyond their
personal capabilities! So moved by
grace they pleaded with Paul to do all
they could to help their poorer
brothers and sisters in Jerusalem. Why?
They gave because they believed.
Giving is about submission
Sometimes we act as if giving flows
naturally though our lives. That would
be true if we didn’t have the power of
sin at work within us. That taints/
tarnishes every good desire in us. The
only way we can do anything good is
by the Holy Spirit at work though us.
And that happens by us submitting
ourselves to God and giving our lives
into His gracious service. Before we
can give our lives and our resources in
service to others, we must first be
willing to submit ourselves to the Lord.
Notice that in 2Cor (8:5) it says they
gave themselves first to the Lord. They
submitted themselves to the Lord, then
out of that flowed generous service to
others. Before you and I can even
begin to think about giving something
to another person that’s of any value,
we must first give ourselves over to
God. But I’m going to tell you that
when you do. When you give
yourselves over to God, You are
changed! Live is not the same. You
begin to see things the way He sees
things.
His will, His desire becomes more
important than your own. That’s called
submission.
Have we submitted ourselves to the
Lord, and said “do with me – do with
my possessions – what you will?
The Stewardship committee is looking
for members who would like to join
our team. Please contact Barbara
Gehring at 760 929-1926.

UPDATE — FAMILY MINISTRY STAFF ADDITION Dan Bitner
We are coming to the end of our
discovery phase and are in the process
of preparing the presentation we will
make to the Congregation detailing
our evaluation of the candidates. If you
have read the bio’s in the newsletter,
or were able to attend the Meet &
Greet events, you already have some
insight into who we are considering. In
addition to these meetings, the Call
Committee has been collecting and
processing information from many
sources. Our research has included:
written evaluations and references;
reference calls; a Skype (video call)
interview; a face to face interview;
feedback from those who were able to
join the Candidate for either a
Preschool tour; breakfast; or dinner;
along with our observations of how
they fit into the Congregation at the
Meet & Greet visits. The Committee’s
role at this point is to collaborated on
all the information we have and then
use that to guide our selection of the
slate of candidates as well as the
evaluations we present to the Voters.
Throughout the process, we have been
mindful of our charter – “The
Committee, led by the Holy Spirit, shall
be responsible to the RBTS congregation
to act independently within the
guidelines of the church constitution
and by-laws to diligently and faithfully
pursue the search, investigation,
evaluation and recommendation to
present a slate of candidates to the
congregation Voter’s Assembly for their
approval to issue a call to serve RBTS as
their Family Ministry Director“. While
we see different strengths in the
candidates, those we present to the
Voters will all fit the profile of a Family
Ministry Director who can help us
reach out to the Community around
us.
The next step is to call a special Voter’s
meeting, where the Call Committee will
present a slate of candidates along
with our evaluation of them. Through a
secret ballot the congregation will ‘call’
one of the Candidates. We will send
the formal Call Documents to that
Candidate and they will then take
some time to consider the position. If
they accept, we will schedule the
Installation Service; if the call is
returned (they decline), there are other
steps in the process we will follow.
As always, we ask you to please
remember the call process in your
prayers.

FIRE RELIEF — SPARED TO SERVE!
We thank God for sparing our church buildings, school, children, teachers and
families from so much potential loss in the recent fires.
If you are interested in providing financial support, a fund is being setup at
Redeemer that will be directed to individuals, specific needs, or agencies
associated with fire relief. Simply make your (tax deductible) contribution to
Redeemer by the Sea, and indicate "Fire Relief" on your donation. This
amount will appear on your giving statement.
