"Go Red With Threads" was created by Suzie Vallerie
of the Enriched Stitch, in Wilton, Connecticut.
Inspired by the knowledge that needlepoint can help
to lower blood pressure, Suzie teamed up with
canvas designers to spread the word about stitching's
potential health benefits.
Participating artists design canvases that are
predominantly red. Needlepoint shops then hold
stitching retreats to work the canvases and proceeds
are donated to the American Heart Association.
Throughout the month of February, these kits are
available for you to order through your local shop or
Enriched Stitch. The proceeds of each sale will go to
this great cause.
Enriched Stitch can be reached at (202) 210-5107.
Their website is
www.enrichedstitch.com. Check with your local
needlepoint shop to see which events are available in
your area.

From Melissa: I named it Mediterranean Diet because we all knowthat's what the medical community loves for the heart, and I filled it with all those good foods. I came up withthe idea after watching business women in Milan ziparound on loaded down Vespas in 6 inch heels lookingspectacular (of course). The dog is modeled after mylittle one, although Suzie stitched it to look like hers.

Hello Ladies,
I wanted to share a recently completed stitched item
made into a useful stitcher's portable tool.
A dear friend passed away in March of this year. Prior to
her passing, she asked if I would be kind enough to
remove her stitching "stash" so her husband, also
elderly, would not have to deal with her extensive
collection of books, supplies, magazines, fabric,
interfacing, beads, etc. She tried many techniques as I
discovered during the removal and sort period prior to
her passing. The bulky items were distributed to three
local groups while smaller items, kits and many supplies
still remain with me.
As I returned to her stash this fall, I found a completed
piece of stitching which was not finished. I think it may
have been a free Rainbow Gallery pattern. I added
some additional stitching to create sides. I then added
My husband took a pic of a mural in the Mission,
San Francisco and converted it in a stitch program.
I used floss on canvas. I finished the pillow in black velvet.
We are both happy with the results...

TimTex during the construction phase to give the bottomand sides some rigidity. The corners each had twoJessicas so the corner could be folded on point duringassembling of the ort. Enclosed are 6 photos of the RGcenter, the corners, the full stitched design, the finishedpiece flat and the ort assembled using quilting clips witheither the fabric or stitching showing.
This was a fun creation to honour a friend and makesomething useful. I will likely keep for a period and thengift to a fellow stitcher.
Thanks for allowing me to continue sharing.

the Royal School of Needlework, and get an up-

first few days of the tour!
From there, we'll be exploring Yorkshire and the
North of England (stitching all the way), Tudor-era
castles, medieval York, and more, and then we'll
return south to tour Bletchley Park and WoburnAbbey. We'll conclude this portion of the tour with an

Overcommitment
Well, I've done it again. In taking on a new hobby, I'veoverestimated what I'm able to do in a reasonableamount of time, especially while keeping up with allthe other hobbies! Elizabeth and I are stitchingBrenda Stofft's "Moon Gazer" in a long distance classtaught by Sandra Arthur. It's a gorgeous canvas andthe first part of the stitch guide is really exciting. I'mlooking forward to seeing how the project developsover the coming months. Just looking at the in-progress picture below makes my fingers itch to bestitchin'!
I'm trying to find a way to balance big projects likeMoon Gazer with the small, "whip 'em out in anafternoon" projects I love as stress relief and quicksatisfaction. I have at least a dozen other stitchingprojects as "WIPs", including the little chartedprojects that I'm designing for the newsletter. I wasn'table to finish this month's up in time to include ithere, but if you follow us on Facebook, you'll find itthere by the end of the month. And if you're a newsubscriber to the magazine, you'll also be receiving abonus project in your email by the end of February aswell!
In the meantime, if you have any words of wisdomfor how you juggle stitching projects, other projects, work, and life, please send them [email protected], because I would loveto hear them.
Many thanks for reading!
