gathering, outdoor parties are always a hit! The standard pavilions available for rent, which hold up to 50 people, are located at Central Park, Deicke Park, Fig Tree Park, Jim Ward Park, Liberty Tree Park, Plantation Woods, Pine Island Park, Seminole Park & Sunset Park. Friday, May 5 7:30 PM Volunteer Park, 12050 W. Sunrise Boulevard

Formerly called “Tinsel Town Cabaret”, this exciting new talent show welcomes singers, dancers, musicians, comedians, magicians and other performers of all ages. This is a fun and entertaining evening that the whole family will enjoy. Tickets are $6 per person and will be available for

purchase beginning April 17 at Plantation Central Park, 9151 N.W. 2nd Street or at Volunteer Park, 12050 W. Sunrise Boulevard. Tickets may also be purchased the evening of the show. Free refreshments will be served. Call 954-452-2510 for more information. Independence Day Parade Participants Wanted

Deadline for participant applications June 16. The City of Plantation Parks & Recreation Department is looking for local businesses, groups, individuals & organizations

to participate in this year’s Independence Day Parade on Tuesday, July 4. There is no fee to enter the parade. The parade begins at the corner of Broward Boulevard and N.W. 46th Avenue and is approximately two hours long. The

parade ends at Plantation City Hall with an awards ceremony. Entry deadline is Friday, June 16, 2017. In order to participate in the 2017 parade, you must have your completed entry

information to us on or before June 16. To receive a parade application or for more information, call 954-452-2506.

Plantation Summer Camp Program!

A cool place to spend a hot summer! City of Plantation recreation day camps are fun-filled, and provide a wide range of activities. They are managed and run

by City of Plantation Parks and Recreation staff members. The City also offers specialty summer camp experiences such as Tennis Camp and Pool, Share-A-Pony Camp, Camp ELITE

“Music of America” An Independence Day Celebration! Tuesday, July 4, 2017

9:00 AM – PARADE Begins at the intersection of Broward Boulevard and NW 46th Avenue, heads west to 69th Avenue, to NW 4th Street, to 73rd Avenue, ending at City Hall.

7:00 PM – FREE CONCERT Featuring one of South Florida’s top variety bands. Concert is held at the north end of Central Park. Bring along a picnic dinner, lawn chairs or blanket. Food available for purchase.

9:00 PM – FIREWORKS Featuring one of the best pyrotechnic shows in Broward. For your safety and the safety of others, please refrain from using fireworks, sparklers and alcoholic beverages within the park.

This event historically attracts thousands of people, and parking is limited. For your convenience, please plan to come early, or carpool with friends. If you live in the area, walk or ride your bike.

General Information

REGISTRATION DATES Registration Classes Begin

SUMMER May 15 – 28 May 30 FALL Aug 14 – 27 Aug 28 The City reserves the right to add or cancel activities or classes and alter

the schedule if deemed necessary. Class books for each session will be available approximately one week prior to registration.

REGISTRATION FEE The registration fee for daily aerobics, all classes, programs, etc. is $5.

REGISTRATION TIMES Online registration is now available! You can sign up for select classes

on the web. Register early! All registrations are on a first come first serve basis. Two proofs of residency or Resident I.D. card must be provided at time of registration. Full payment is required at time of registration for all classes and the Kid’s Day Off Program. Supply fees are due the first day of class. No phone-in registrations will be accepted. Waiver forms must be signed for each participant, by the participant, or by a parent or guardian if under 18, in the presence of a City of Plantation Parks & Recreation Department employee. Otherwise the waiver form must be notarized prior to actual registration. Notary services are available on a limited basis.

RESIDENT POLICY The Plantation Parks and Recreation Department is operated on tax

dollars from the City of Plantation. Non-residents will be required to pay additional fees for certain classes and for use of the facilities. Residents must provide two proofs of residency at time of registration.

Resident Identification Cards are available for purchase at Central Park, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 8:30 pm and Saturday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at a cost of $3 per card. This is a non-refundable fee. Two proofs of residency are required.

CANCELLATION PROCEDURE All classes require a minimum enrollment. Classes will be cancelled if

requirements are not met. Refunds take approximately 4 weeks to process. There will be no refunds after the first week of class. To request a refund, you must contact the Parks & Recreation Department during the first week of class. A $15 cancellation fee will be charged.

HOLIDAY HOURS There are no classes on City of Plantation observed holidays. For up to

date information about holiday hours, please call 954-452-2510.

INSURANCE The City of Plantation Parks and Recreation Department does not carry

medical or accident insurance for the participants of its programs. The cost of doing so would be so high that fees charged for programs would become prohibitive. We suggest that you review your family’s personal health insurance plan to ensure that it provides sufficient coverage.

We also suggest that you check with your family physician before participating in any City programs that require physical exertion. If your physician should discover factors that could limit you physically, please consider them when registering for programs.

NOTICE FOR SPECIAL NEEDS In compliance with Public Law 101-336 Title 11, Section 202, we ask

you to notify the City of Plantation if the participant has special needs in order to participate. The City of Plantation will provide reasonable accommodations for disabled individuals requesting special assistance in order to attend or participate in meetings, classes or events, provided, however, that a request for such assistance be made to the Parks & Recreation Department 954-452-2516 at least five calendar days prior to the meeting, class or event.

GENERAL INFORMATION Plantation Historical Museum is a free, non-profit

Museum, preserving Plantation’s history for future generations. Our new Everglades Diorama features 3 dimensional Flora & Fauna, such as Florida panther cubs, turtle and heron, with special effects lighting, sounds, and descriptive “reader rail”. We also have a Triceratops Dinosaur skeleton, Dinosaur paintings by Kevin Wakefield and a variety of other exhibits.

Permanent displays include Plantation Police and Fire Department memorabilia, including the City’s first Fire Truck, Seminole and Tequesta Native American exhibit, and “Plantation-Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” a collection of historic photos and scrapbooks along with various items from the past.

The Museum also has a Gift Shop and Butterfly Garden. Various exhibits and programs are hosted throughout the year. Donations are appreciated and cameras are allowed. The Plantation Historical Society welcomes new members.

Last guided tour begins at 3:30 pm. SPECIAL TOURS for schools, clubs and organizations by

Swimming Lessons Plantation’s Learn-to-Swim programs offer training for all ages, infant through adult. Programs include the American Red

Cross Swim Lesson Program; Private Swim Lessons; Camp Swim Lessons; Special Needs Swim Lessons; Infant Swim Lessons; and Swim & Dive Instruction.

American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program Swim lessons consist of 6 lessons. Makeup lessons are scheduled only when the facility has cancelled a lesson. All courses

The new 11,000 square foot Plantation Community Center features a state-of-the-art fitness center and a large room that will host dance and aerobic classes such as Zumba, Pilates and yoga. Three additional meeting rooms will serve the community, and when paired with the warming kitchen, will provide an ideal location and setup to host meetings for local organizations, clubs and catered events.

A pedestrian connection in the rear of the building will lead to Plantation Woods playground and water play area, tennis courts, pavilions and picnic tables. For information, please call 954-452-2510.

Registration: Registration forms will be available Monday, March 27 at Plantation public elementary schools, Plantation Central Park (9151 N.W. 2nd Street), Volunteer Park (12050 W. Sunrise Boulevard) and Jim Ward Community Center (301 N.W. 46th Avenue). Registration begins April 24 at all Community Centers.

Adventure Camp, Central Park Ages 12 – 14 This camp is designed to give the teen a higher level of

Golf Academy Ages 6 – 15 Plantation Preserve Golf Course

The Golf Academy at Plantation Preserve is under new ownership. PGA professionals Barry Fitzpatrick and Nick Pincket are providing the finest Junior golf programs in South Florida.
