GolfNEW! SNAG®SNAG® stands for “Starting New at Golf”. It is a FUN game that is EASY to learn and can be played ANYWHERE. SNAG® contains all the elements of golf but in a modified form. Falling somewhere between miniature golf and regulation golf, SNAG® allows for full shots, pitching, chipping, and putting. This is a great program for first time golfers. NFL Flag FootballNFL YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL SPRING LEAGUEThis is an 8-week, 5vs5 league, with teams of up to 10 players. Jersey and flag belts will be provided. Games will be played on Saturdays at Utica and/or Urbana District Parks. Registration deadline is Monday, March 19th. Volunteer coaches needed. Volunteer coaches meeting will be held on Thursday, March 29th at 6pm at Utica Park. Game times to be

announced. Practices will be held according to the schedule below. All participants must wear a mouthpiece. All requests must be made at time of registration and will only be accepted at time of registration. Not all requests are granted. If you sign up under Head Coach’s child you will be expected to coach a team.

SoccerFREDERICK COUNTY WINTER INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUEWhile its cold outside, practice your skills indoors. Boys and girls can have fun play-ing co-ed recreational soccer indoors while learning basic skills. The Division of Parks and Recreation will form teams. Sneakers and shin guards are required to participate. Game times vary from week to week on scheduled day. Volunteer coaches are needed. Registration Deadline is Friday, January 13th.

All matches will be played at the Urbana Community Park Tennis Courts on Saturdays between the hours of 9am and 6pm. Teams will practice on Saturdays before their match. Registration deadline is Thursday, April 19th. Team captains are needed for each team. Teams consist of at least 6 children and at least 3 boys and 3 girls. Participants should provide their own racquets. Tennis balls will be provided.

QUICKSTART TENNIS Quickstart tennis works by getting kids into the game immediately. Within the first hour of stepping onto the court, they are actually playing, rallying and moving around and having fun! We scale the courts down to their size, which gives the kids the confidence and ability to cover the entire court. We use junior size racquets that fit smaller hands and makes it easier to control. Quickstart tennis enables kids to have a fun experience early on in the learning process. They build confidence and become more enthusiastic about playing.

Advanced topics such as slab technique and scoring will be explored. Artists will use glazes to add color to clay creations. Firing techniques will be shared. DanceBELLY DANCING - BEGINNERLearn the foundations of Belly Dancing in this class. We train students to maintain a healthy dance posture. Our focus is on developing flexibility and learning how to move the parts of the body which are often ignored in day-to-day living. Classes include a warm-up; basic posture, hip work such as lifts and drops, figure 8’s, circles, pushes and snaps, arm movements, shimmies, turns and traveling steps, and a cool down. YouthAMPHIBIAN SAFARI What’s soft, slightly slimy, and breaths air just like you and me? That’s right amphibians including frogs, toads, and salamanders. Amphibians are pollution sensitive and important indicators of ecosystem health. We’ll find out why they’re so important, as we uncover rocks, flip over logs, and look under leaves for toads, frogs, and salamanders. Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet and muddy.


HOLIDAY FOR THE BIRDS Celebrate National Bird Feeding Month by preparing special treats for them. We’ll make garlands, pine cone feeders and create some homemade suet.

NatureNEW! SCHOOL’S OUT: NATURE ESCAPE CAMPThrough hands on investigations campers will have the opportunity to learn about many of the local wildlife species found at Catoctin Creek and Fountain Rock Parks. Daily themes include: Totally Turtles, Fabulous Frogs and Insects, Sensational Snakes, Mysterious Mammals, and Beautiful Birds. Nature Escapes Camp features nature games, walks, wildlife viewing, storytelling, and crafts. Campers will have the chance to meet our resident snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs, and help prepare food for some of these animals.

For an additional $25 fee campers will be picked up at Rose Hill Manor Park and trans-ported to Catoctin Creek Park daily (limited to 10 participants).

AIKIDO DEMONSTRATION- FREEAikido is one of the most modern forms of the Japanese martial arts. It has been called a “gentle” martial art because it uses strictly defensive techniques of evasion, redirection, and immobilization to avoid and control the attacker. Aikido focuses on minimum effort/maximum effect, which makes it well suited for all people regardless of age, size or gen-der. This demonstration is a wonderful way to learn some basic, effective self-defense, and discover more about Aikido!

MIDDLETOWN COOKING STUDIO7628 Coblentz Road, Middletown: Follow directions to Middletown Community Park. Studio is next to Baseball/Softball fields.

MIDDLETOWN RECREATION CENTER403 Franklin Street, Middletown: US 40 W. Bear left onto US-ALT. 40 W. Approximately 4 miles turn left onto Middletown Parkway. Turn right onto Holter Road. School is on right. The Rec Center is located on the left side of the school.

SCOTT KEY CENTER9051 Ridgefield Drive, Frederick: Take Interstate 270 North towards Frederick. Follow signs for Route 15 North. Take exit #14/Rosemont Avenue. Turn right onto Rosemont Avenue. Proceed approximately 1 mile. Turn left onto Rocky Springs Road. Scott Key Center is the first building on the left.

SPRING RIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL9051 Ridgefield Drive, Frederick: From I-70 E take Exit 56. Follow MD-144 E. Turn left on Ridgefield Drive.

THURMONT RECREATION CENTER(previously Catoctin Recreation Center)408 East Main Street, Thurmont: US 15 N to Rt. 77 (Exit approx. 14 miles). Make left off Exit onto Main Street in Thurmont. After about one mile go right on Summit Avenue. The Recreation Center is on the right in the back of Thurmont Middle School.

TUSCARORA RECREATION CENTER6321 Lambert Drive, Frederick: US 340 W, Exit 5 (ramp exit) for MD-351 (Ballenger Creek Pike), go right off the exit onto MD-351 for approx. two miles. Turn left onto Lambert Drive. School is immediately on right.

URBANA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL3554 Urbana Pike, Urbana: I-270 S to Exit 26 to Fingerboard Road. Enter next roundabout and take 1st Exit onto MD-80 E/Fingerboard Rd. Enter next roundabout and take 3rd Exit onto MD-355/ Urbana Pike. At light turn left onto MD-355/ Urbana Pike North. School will be on left.

URBANA COMMUNITY PARK3636 Urbana Pike, Urbana: I-270 S to Exit 26 to Fingerboard Road, bear right off the exit. Turn left on MD-355. Park is on the left just past Urbana Elementary School.

WINDSOR KNOLLS MIDDLE SCHOOL3519 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD: Take I-70 E / US-40 E MD-75 S / Green Valley Rd via EXIT 62 toward Monrovia / Hyattstown. Turn slight right onto MD-75 / Baldwin Rd. Turn left onto MD-75 / Green Valley Rd. Turn slight left onto Fingerboard Rd / MD-80 / MD-75. Take the 1st right onto Green Valley Rd / MD-75. Turn left onto Windsor Rd.

WALKERSVILLE RECREATION CENTER 83 Frederick Street, Walkersville: Take US 15 N to Rt. 26 E. Go approx. 2 miles, at the 4th traffic light and just after crossing the Monocacy River, the road bears left. Continue left on Rt. 194 N for approx. 1.4 miles. Turn left at East Frederick Street.

WEST WINDS TENNIS CENTER11411 Gas House Pike, New Market: I-70 E toward Mt. Airy to Exit 62 (New Market). Turn right on Rt. 75 N and take a left the second time you come to Old New London Road (it does a “U”). Take a right on Gas House Pike and go less than 1 mile to San Andrew Drive and turn left. The center is immediately on your left.

WALKERSVILLE RECREATION CENTER 83 Frederick Street, Walkersville: Take US 15 N to Rt. 26 E. Go approx. 2 miles, at the 4th traffic light and just after crossing the Monocacy River, the road bears left. Continue left on Rt. 194 N for approx. 1.4 miles. Turn left at East Frederick Street.

REGISTER EARLY Early program registration is encouraged since roster size is limited. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-registration required unless otherwise indicated.

REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION Confirmation sent via e-mail, otherwise your cancelled check or credit card statement is your receipt. You will be notified if there is a problem processing your registration or if the program is cancelled. Please make a note of your program start date.

REFUND POLICYIf you want to withdraw from a program call 301-600-2936. All requests for refunds must be made 2-weeks prior to the start of the program. A $4 processing fee will be charged for each participant per program refunded. All refund requests must be approved by the Recreation Superintendent. Refunds will be issued according to the original method of payment. Registrations for trips that require pre-purchased tickets are not refundable.

RETURNED CHECKSA $25 fee will be charged for checks returned for non-payment.

AGE POLICYProgram participants must be the advertised age for a program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make the instruction consistent and safe.

DISCIPLINEThe Division has a discipline policy for program participants. In the event the participant is asked to leave a program/facility, no refund will be issued.

TRIPS ALCOHOL POLICYWe strive to have a family atmosphere on our trips. If you choose to drink alcohol while on one of our trips please do so responsibly and make arrangements to have a designated driver for your trip home from the bus drop off area.

PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS/ WEATHER-RELATED CLOSURESPlease see your instructor on the first day of your program for a schedule. If there is an exception, you will be informed by the Parks and Recreation staff on the program schedule. If you are not sure whether a program will be held, call our program cancellation line at 301-600-6291. During inclement weather, outdoor programs may be cancelled. Every effort will be made to make-up missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. The Division may cancel a program for any reasonable cause.
