LuBo #500 Series Materials
Normally, copper alloy is used as the base material for LuBo #500 series bearings by centrifugal or sand casting.Other materials such as cast iron, stainless steels and even tool steels could be used according to the applications involving extreme temperatures, environments corrosive to bronze, and loads exceeding the compressive strength of bronze.
-Bearing Materials
NOTE : When used for high strength bearings, alloys LuBo #500SP, #500SPX and #500HCA require hardened shafts.
-Mechanical and Physical Properties
A bearing and its mating surface should always be separated by a film of lubricant. LuBo produces proprietary solid lubricant compounds consisting of graphite, PTFE, metallic oxides, white metals, waxes, and other minerals that are compressed and heat treated into dense plugs. These plugs are then installed into the base metal.
Lubricants used in LuBo products are solid, permanent, and completely self-lubricating. They are constantly tested and monitored in our laboratories to ensure superior bearing performance.
LuBo produces different solid lubricants for both high temperature (greater than 300 F) and aquatic applications. Please contact LuBo's application engineers for assistance with these special operating conditions.
°
Applications involving bearing temperatures greater than 300 F(150 C) require critical engineering to optimize performance. The thermal expansion of mating components must also be considered to allow for proper clearance or interference, Not only bearing materials and lubricants but differences in thermal expansion of the housing and journal must be carefully calculated to ensure satisfactory performance. Therefore, it is important that our application engineers advise on all high temperature applications.

1. LuBo #500 self-aligning, self-lubricating bearings consist of an inner and an outer ring with curved mating surfaces. Either or both of these curved surfaces can be dry-lubricated.
2. Three inner ring material choices are available depending on the application conditions : Copper Alloy, Bronze, and Cast Iron. Solid lubricant selection is also based on the application conditions.
3. The outer ring is made of carbon bearingwith a protective ting for corrosion resistance. Upon request, LuBo Industries recommends coating the inner surface of the outer ring with MoS for longer bearing life. (See MoS Dry Coating on page 42.)
4. Specials to Customer's Specifications : LuBo produces non-standard, angular contact, self-lubricating spherical bearings in both metric and inch dimensions.
5. A number of factors must be considered when ordering customized spherical bearings, such as the magnitude and direction of applied loads, operating temperature and other environmental conditions, presence of corrosive fluids, etc. Careful evaluation of these factors is critical to the proper selection of bearing materials and lubricants. Please contact LuBo's application engineers for assistance with your applications.

An additional coating of MoS dry lubricant on sliding surface provides extra resistance against wear, heavy loads, high temperature, and chemical breakdown.
2
MoS is a fine, black powder similar to graphite. MoS has the following features:2 2
1. Physical Properties
Temperature Resistance : Service range in ambient air (-680 ~ 1,300 F)High-Load Resistance : Endures up to 66.8kpsi (33.4Ton/cm )Low Frictional Coefficient : Increasing the load causes the frictional coefficient to decrease.
ynamic frictional coefficient is close to 0.02~0.04Chemical Resistance : Safe for use with water, all kinds of solvents, acids, and alkalies.
MoS has a longer life and higher strength when com pared to other coating materials.
Cost competitive.Good where lubrication is hard to implement.Ideal for low speed operation under high load.Typical coating layer of 10 mm can support up to 50kpsi
(3,500kgf/cm )Increases bearing life by smoothing initial bearing
operation.

LPRB is designed to improve rubber typebearing with lead plug technology. The lead plug prevents the structure from moving sideways under wind and other non-seismic loads. Under earthquake or seismic situation, lead plugs are pushed sideways by the rubber and steel layers. This damping effect absorbs earthquake forces and controls lateral displacement of structures.

Free from LubricationLuBo LB Series...In the 1960's Glacier of UK invented the steel-backed, sintered-bronze PTFE & lead lined bearing-DU . Like DU bearings, LuBo's LB bearings are also used in dry or semi-lubrication environments. It can substitute for conventional bearing where it is desired to save space, and to provide superior shock and impact load resistance.
■ Features- Maintains a low coefficient of friction( :0.04~0.2) and usable without lubrication at high load, low speed operations with excellent wear resistance.- Wide applicable temperature range from -319 F to 518 F. (-195 C to +270 C)- Satisfactory with rotating, oscillating and axial sliding motions with excellent dimensional stability.- Excellent resistance against almost any chemical attack.- Thin wall thickness and lightweight construction enable a compact design of the product.- Similar static and dynamic friction with elimination of stick-slip under very low sliding speed.- Various standards are available for quick delivery. Boundary Lubricating Bearings (LX Series)
LX Series is designed to fill the gap between dry and lubricated type bearings. It ensures smooth operation over an extended period of time. Once lubricated upon installation, only minimum lubrication is needed from then on at regular intervals.LX Series is widely used in auto steering joint, machine tools, engineering machineries, and etc.
-Boundary lubricating material enables LX series to keep excellent performance when lacking in lubrication oil.-With good mechanical strength, it can stand heavy dynamic and static load.-Owing to its thick and hard surface of friction, it has the advantage of low wear.-It doesn't absorb water or swelled up in moisture as other plastic materials do.-It is suitable for conditions in which oil film is difficult to be formed, such as in oscillating movements in heavy load and low speed condition, frequent stop and start or start under load.-LX series is relatively inexpensive.-Various standards are available for quick delivery (Inner Dia.: 10 ~ 300) ø ø

Oilless Bearings
Dry lubricating(Using solid lubricant)
Liquid lubricating(Using oil or water)
Advantage
- Possible to being used in high & lowtemperature.
- Possible to being used in corrosionenvironment
- High load and low speed condition whereoiling is useless, linear motion , angularpitching motion, impactive load, and ideal indiscontinuous motion .
- Light or medium load and high speed* Liquid lubricating prevent friction between
metal to metal by forming oil film withcontinuously rotating by centrifugal force inthe clearance of shaft and housing.)
Disadvantage
- Not supposed to be used in h igh speed whenit is using in oil less condition.
* Using it in high speed condition may occurmelting or shorten life cycle of bearingbecause solid lubr icant has higher fr ictioncoefficient than liquid lubricant.
- Regular oiling is required- Can not be used in h igh & low temperature.- Can not be used in corrosion environment.- Not proper to be used in high load & low
speed as oil film is hard to be formed, impactive load, angular pitching motion ,discontinuous motion.
■ What is an oilless bearing?
A bearing that can improve productivity and save cost/time by having the material properties which can withstand both high & low temperature, corrosive environment, alien substances, and impact load. There are various kinds of shapes and materials for oilless bearings such as metal, non-metal, plastic and ceramic.
■ Advantage Disadvantage& of each lubricating method
General lubricating of oilless bearing
EX) Dry bearing (PTFE + lead compound lubricant)
LuBo #500SP (natural graphite + PTFE lubricant)
* Solid lubricant : Either power or solid type of lubricant that can be used in harsh environments such as in high & low temperature, corrosive environment and where manual greasing is not possible. Generally, it is made of natural graphite, MoS , PTFE, Pb, and etc.
2
● Liquid lubricant (lubricating with oil or water)
■ Advantage & Disadvantage of Oilless bearing and Oiling method.
● Dry lubrication = Using solid lubricant
EX) - Sintered metal bearing (Oiling into sintered metal)
- LuBo #200B (Water lubricating by performing water film when it is using in the water.

■ Bearing life and wear amount
The PV value is a very important reference for selecting bearings and it can be obtained simply by multiply P to V, where P is bearing surface pressure per unit area (Kgf/Cm, Estimation of bearing surface pressure per unit area will be obtained by multiply inner diameter to length), V is velocity per unit time.
2
■ PV value
W : (mm)Wear amountV : (m/min) VelocityP : (kgf/cm ) ²Surface pressureT : (hr)Running timeK : (mm / kgf/cm m/min hr)²ㆍ ㆍCoefficient of specific wear amount
W=K.P.V.T
● Table (Experimental K value under different lubricating)
The life of bearing is basically dependent on the acceptable amount of wear, which is mainly affected by friction conditions. Friction is influenced by load and velocity, foreign particles, condition of mating material, operational temperature, different modes of operation, type of lubricant used, etc. Therefore, it may not be possible to accurately estimate the life of bearing without sufficient application data. However, the wear amount may be estimated by the following method:
● Rotary Motion
PV-Value Limit
Pmax
P
V maxW:Radial Load[kgf] D:Outside-Dia.[mm] N:R.P.M d:Inside-Dia.[mm]
L:Length[mm]
The allowable PV value is listed in the catalog. Please note that PV value can vary depending on its working condition temperature or lubrication. PV value of thrust washer & wear plate must not exceed
of bushing PV value.1/2

Heat equivalent of workCoefficient of frictionPressure in kilograms per square centimeterVelocity in meter per minute
The frictional heat(Q) generated per unit time and unit area is as follows:■ Frictional heat
Since velocity is the main factor which limits bearing performance, the friction heat is mainly affected by velocity rather than pressure. Therefore, for similar PV values, additional lubrication should be considered for a higher velocity application to prevent damage to the bearing or the mating shaft.

■ Additional LubricationAdditional lubrication with grease or oil reduces frictional heat and wear. Also it increases the bearing life and performance by reducing the amount of worn particles, preventing foreign particle interference(sealing effect), and reducing the noise as well as anti-rust effect of the shaft operation. Oil lubrication applied at the inner surface of a bearing in the installation stage, though no lubrication is required, reduces, the drastic wear th toccurs during initial operation.
a
* Performance of bearing is very much influenced by material, hardness, surface roughness, surface treatment of bearing.* Under sea water, chemical environment, 2~3 times chrome coating is required.
* that for the better life time and performance because this is very effective under high load, ,and
Grease containing MoS2 is highly recommended excessive wear high frictional heat condition.

■ The formula of calculating ideal thickness
- Lubricating hole : One in an area where hole is recommended the load is notconcentrated. Two holes on each side of the maximum load point are suggested for rotational motion. Use two holes along the length of each groove for longer bearing.
- Oil groove : Distribute the oil grooves around the maximum load point as shownbelow. The length of an oil groove is approximately 80% of the bearing length. The radius(R and r) and (H) of an oil groove selected based on the inner diameter(ID) of the bearing as shown in the table below. Use a circular oil groove on the inner surface of a housing or the outer surface of the bearing whenoil is supplied from outside of the housing.

BrinellHardness
*A known load applied through a hardensteel ball will make permanentindentation in the metal. The Brinellhardness number is found as a numberequal to the appl ied load divided by thespherical su rface area of indentation
*Annealed Parts
*Normalized Parts
*Applicable to unevenmaterials due to largeindentation
*Not applicable to small orthin specimens
RockwellHardness
*The Rockwell hardness tester wil lmeasure hardness by determining thedepth of penetration of penetrator , asteel ball or a diamond spheroconicalpenetrator, into specimen under certainfixed condition of test
*Quenched-TemperedParts
*Carburized/NitridedSurfaces
*Thin Sheets, such asCopper, Brass, Bronze, etc.
*Hardness number isobtained very quickly
*Suitable for intermediatetest to actual products
*Be cautious becausevarious types of tests areavailable
VickersHardness
*Similar in principle to the Brinellhardness test. The standard Vickerspenetrator is a square-based diamondpyramid with 136. The Vickers hardnessnumber equals the applied load inkilograms divided by the area ofpyramidal impression
*Parts with HighFrequency quenching
*Harden layer depth incarburized/nitridedparts
*Applicable to small andthin specimens
