Cutting BladesThere are four blade choices to select from depending onsoil condition, density of grass, and tractor horsepower. The appearance of the finish cut may vary between lowlift and high lift blades. See your Land Pride dealer forblade availability.

Low Lift BladesLand Pride’s low lift blades are designed for mowing oversandy soil terrain where high suction lift is not crucial.Sand sucked into the blades accelerates blade wear.Low lift blades are recommended because they producea lower suction keeping sand uplift and blade wear to aminimum.

Medium Lift Blades (Factory Standard)Land Pride’s medium lift blades are great whenhorsepower is a concern. They produce a mediumsuction to lift grass and require less horsepower thanhigh lift blades.

High Lift BladesLand Pride’s high lift blades develop the greatest suctionfor lifting grass before cutting for that fresh clean cut look. However, they may require more horsepower especiallywhen cutting tall dense grass. They are notrecommended for sandy soil conditions.

Mulching BladesLand Pride’s mulching blades are designed to chopleaves and/or grass into smaller parts leaving your lawnlooking fresher and cleaner than ever before.

Page 17: Rear discharge Grooming Mowers FDR3590...Use A Safety Chain. A safety chain will help control drawn machinery should it separate from the tractor drawbar. Use a chain with the strength

Section 3: Operating InstructionsTable of Contents

3. At first, begin mowing in a low gear and shift up untilthe desired speed is achieved - always maintain540 PTO rpm regardless of gear selection. Mowerblades will cut better at a faster blade speed than atreduced throttle.

4. After mowing the first 50 feet, stop and check to seethat the mower is adjusted properly.

5. Do not make sharp turns or attempt to back up whilemower is on the ground.

6. Do not engage PTO with mower in the fully raisedposition. Do not engage or disengage PTO at fullthrottle.

7. Grass is best cut when it is dry. Mowing wet grasscan cause plugging resulting in grass clumps behindthe mower.

8. Grass should be mowed frequently as shorterclippings deteriorate faster.

9. If mowing extremely tall grass, it is best to raisecutting height and mow the area, then lower cuttingheight and mow a second time at the desired height.

10. Periodically check for foreign objects wrappedaround the mower blades. Remove foreign objectsonly after following “Tractor Shut DownProcedure” on page 13.

11. Frequently inspect the mower for loose bolts andnuts. Tighten all loose bolts and nuts as indicated inthe “Torque Values Chart” page 27.

4. Follow all tractor shut down procedures outlined onpage 13 before dismounting from the tractor.

5. Unhitch Grooming Mower from tractor.

6. See “Storage Instructions” on page 20 if mower isnot going to be used for a long time.

4/08/13

General Operating InstructionsBy now you should have thoroughly read your FDRGrooming Mower Operator’s Manual, properly attachedyour Land Pride FDR3590 to your tractor, and reviewedthe operating checklist. You should have also inspectedthe area where you intend to mow and cleared it of safetyhazards and foreign objects. If you have not yetcompleted all of these functions, it is an absolute mustthat you do so now before proceeding.

Now that you are properly briefed and prepared, its timeto start the tractor and move to your starting point. Whentransporting to your mowing site, select a safe groundtransport speed. When traveling on roadways, transportin such a manner that faster moving vehicles can easilysee you and pass you safely. When travelling over roughand hilly terrain, reduce your speed and avoid quick orsharp steering corrections. Take extra care to insure thatthe mower doesn’t come into contact with obstacles suchas trees, buildings or fences.

When you have arrived at the mowing site, start thetractor, raise the deck to make sure that everything isproperly attached and that the driveline is not in a bind orin contact with the mounting frame. Also make sure thetractor tires aren’t in contact with the deck. With the deckstill in the raised position, proceed to your starting pointand lower your deck to the ground in mowing position.Reduce your tractor engine rpm to idle and engage PTO.Gradually raise tractor engine rpm to achieve the540-rpm PTO speed. Now begin mowing at a groundspeed of approximately 4-5 mph.

The proper mowing speed will ultimately be determinedby ground conditions, desired finish, common sense, andgood safe mowing practices by the operator. Grass isbest cut when it is dry. Mowing in wet grass can causeplugging resulting in grass clumps behind the mower.Grass should be mowed frequently as shorter clippingsdeteriorate faster. When mowing in tall grass it is best toraise the cutting height, mow the area, then lower thecutting height, and mow a second time.

After mowing approximately 50 ft., stop the tractor, disengage the PTO, set the brake, turn off the engine, remove the key, and dismount the tractor to see if themower is adjusted properly. If you need to dismount thetractor on a hill or incline to inspect, adjust, or park themower for any reason, place wheel chocks under the reartires for added safety. Once you have made necessaryadjustments, you may continue mowing. Do not engagethe PTO at high engine rpm and avoid making sharpturns if at all possible. If some one approaches while youare mowing, disengage the PTO and stop the tractor.

With a little practice and experience you will become verygood at operating your Land Pride FDR3590 RearDischarge Grooming Mower. Always remember thatthere is no substitute for proper maintenance and goodsafe operating practices.

See “Specifications & Capacities” on page 23 and“Features & Benefits” on page 25 for additionalinformation and performance enhancing options.
