As 2012 draws to a close, the talk now turns to what next year has in store for the realestate market. Freddie Mac just released itʼs housing market outlook in which theirchief economist, Frank Nothaft, shares his opinion of what is in store for the realestate industry in 2013. Overall, Nothafts report, as well as the Freddie Mac outlook,are positive, which is welcome news.

Highlights from the reportas well as Mr. Nothaftʼsprojections for 2013:

•Interest rates, whichare at a 65-year low, areexpected to stay near recordlows during the first sixmonths of 2013 and then risetoward the end of 2013 butstill remain below 4 percent.

•Home prices areexpected to rise 2.5 percent –3.0 percent in 2013 but, asusual, will vary significantly bylocation.

•Household formationwill be on the rise and shouldgenerate about 1.25 millionnet new householdsoutpacing new homeconstruction and therebyincreasing overall demand.

•Vacancy rates will fallback to levels not seen inabout a decade for bothfor-sale homes as well asapartments as a result ofhousehold formationoutpacing new homeconstruction in 2013.

So, after a few hard years weare finally getting somethingto look forward to in the realestate industry!
