Happy February!
By now, you should have received your Go Play! 2012 Memo. This
is REALLY IMPORTANT as it has all of our updates and schedule
changes for the year. We work REALLY HARD to give you all of
our changes at the beginning of the year so you can make
arrangements for your dogs on the days we are not offering
services and so there are no surprises about when we will be open
or closed.
We also have a new form this year – an Emergency Contact Form.
This is something we need to have on file – in case of an
emergency. We will be requiring you to fill out a new form each
year in order to make sure we always have current contact
information!
In FUN news, I recently completed our “Introduction to Nose
Work / Scent Work” class here – I learned SO MUCH in just three
weeks and had a blast! Watch the class in action HERE – we will be
offering this class again. Give it a try – it’s SO FUN!
Our new friends this month are: Carly, Spike, Bryne, Jack, Molly,
Gus, Destry, Ruby, Finnegan, Iris, Lola, Roxie, Pocus, Reba, Annie,
Ollie, Zoey, and Shana
Hope to see you around!
What’s going on around Go Play!
Munchkin and Bubba are two of our
smaller daycare regulars, but their
petite stature doesn’t stop them from
having a blast with the larger dogs!
These two are fun-loving and very
social – they love to greet all the dogs
as they come in for the day and then
spend the day hanging out with their
favorite humans and canines!

It’s that time of year……..while most of us dogs LOVE playing in
the snow, we don’t like the salt and sand from the roads and
sidewalks on our paws – it hurts!
Luckily, you humans are pretty smart and have come up with a
couple of options that are stocked at Go Play! in order to keep our
canine feet happy!
Some dogs don’t mind wearing boots. We have the PAWZ brand –
they look like rubber balloons that haven’t been blown up yet!
They are pretty comfortable for us to wear because we can still feel
the ground through the boot. They are reusable, too, which is
really eco-friendly!
Another option is the ever-popular Musher’s Secret. This is made
from 100% food-grade natural wax and it forms a barrier between
our paws and the pavement. It’s named Musher’s Secret because
it’s what they use for sled dogs! There are a few other companies
that make a product similar to the Musher’s – one is called 4 Paws
and it comes in a nifty chapstick-type tube, making the application
process easy!
Regardless of what type of product you use for your canine friend,
make sure you rinse our paws off in warm water when we come in
from a city walk. That will keep us from licking any salt and sand
off of our feet. (This will keep our feet AND tummy happy!)
What every discriminating dog needs to wear!
Winter is OFFICIALLY here. Drat.
I was really hopeful with the balmy weather we have had
so far that I would never need to break out my heavy-duty
winter coat. But the bitterly cold weather the past few
weeks has forced me to bundle up when outside!
Good thing I have my Nylon Turnout Coat, made by
Foggy Mountain Dog Coats. This waterproof and wind-
resistant coat is lined with cuddly Sherpa to keep me warm
and toasty. Best of all, on a slushy and wet day, I stay
totally dry. This really is the ideal coat for bitterly cold
weather – and my Fido Fleece layers underneath it
perfectly. Thank goodness for warm clothes!
We are the only local company to stock these high-quality
coats – they last for a lifetime and are priced very
reasonably. We just received our last order for the season,
so stop in today to make sure your pooch stays warm!
What Simon is excited about this month!

Do you have a “good dog?”
Then feed him ZiwiPeak ‘Good-Dog’ treats!
These economical treats come in both 3 oz ‘trial sizes’ or 1
lb packages. They break into TINY pieces so a big bag will
last forever! We haven’t met a dog yet who hasn’t really
loved these treats, and the different flavors available ensure
your dog won’t become bored having the same old treat
day in and day out!
The best thing about these treats is how healthy they are –
they are available in beef, lamb, and venison – and
whatever flavor you choose makes up over 95% of the
treat! They are naturally preserved, and don’t contain any
grains, fillers, dyes, or by-products. Even better, the
company only uses grass-fed protein sources and
sustainable processing. This is a treat both you AND your
dog will feel great about!
My favorite treats this month!
Gwen gives a monthly food review!
Canine Nutritionists agree that there isn’t one ‘perfect’
food, and recommend a rotational-fed diet for your dog
that incorporates raw ingredients.
Rotation feeding simply means that your dog isn’t fed the
same food on a regular basis. Rotation feeding is very
simple using the Nature’s Variety food. Because they are
formulated FOR rotational feeding, it’s easy. Simply pick
up another flavor! You can switch flavors as often as you’d
like – and as your pooch gets more used to a varied diet,
you will not even have to gradually introduce the new
flavor.
Dogs fed a rotation diet have fewer allergies, less stomach
upsets, improved hydration, are generally healthier, and
have more interest in their food. It’s a win-win!
Nature’s Variety makes PRAIRIE – we offer this great food
in Chicken, Beef, Lamb, Venison, and Salmon. They also
make the grain-free INSTINCT. We are proud to add this
to our store – available in Chicken, Duck, and Rabbit!
Also available in canned formulas – with every flavor
imaginable! My favorite is the Salmon with Wild Rice Stew!

My newest obsession is playing in the snow! A
GREAT toy to take outside is the Ruff Dawg Ball! It
comes in two sizes, floats, and is waterproof! This
means that they never get soggy! I have one in my
mouth in this picture – the snow goes right around
the outside and it makes a big snow ball! I LOVE it!
The Ball is a solid rubber ball that is virtually
indestructible. This is a tough toy that can withstand
winter weather!
Dear Frosty,
Winter can be a boring time of year. So far, we’ve been lucky and had some great weather!
But there are times when it’s too stormy and cold to be outside for long.
I wish all humans could understand that when dogs get bored we get NAUGTHY! If they just kept us busy, we’d be such good dogs!
My parent’s favorite saying is: A tired dog is a good dog!
Here are some surefire ways to keep busy this time of year:
CHEW! Chewing is important to dogs – it gives us exercise and relieves stress. Make sure your parents stock up on a variety of chew
bones and toys, and don’t forget the ever-popular Kong or Busy Buddy toys! We have a full selection in stock and they are ideal for
stuffing full of our breakfast, etc. In fact, I ate breakfast out of mine this morning and it took me a LONG time to finish cleaning my
Twist N’ Treat out! Instead of the two minutes (ok, ok, two SECONDS) it normally takes me to inhale my food, I took a long time
and it kept me out of trouble!
CLASS: Winter is an ideal time for your parents to try out a dog sport they’ve always been interested in. Classes keep our mind and
body busy and it’s a perfect time to enroll us in an agility or advanced obedience course. We just had a class teaching Scent Work and
BOY was that FUN!
DAYCARE: Most of my dog friends know what day of the week it is. I hear their parents say it all the time “she knew it was
Tuesday and her time to Go Play!” We are smart and enjoy playing with our friends and a day of daycare once or twice a week sure
makes us tired!
Good luck!
Dear Apollo,
I HATE winter. It’s too cold to be outside for very long, and there’s never
anything fun to do inside. What are some things I can do to stay out of trouble
and keep the winter blues away?
Signed,
Frosty Paws
