The Casino Beef Week Festival is a celebration of the culture and success of the beef cattle industry in the Richmond Valley. This signature event now runs for 10 days and has over 65 events. It is one of the most widely known and popular

regional festivals with an approximately 20,000 people converging on Casino and attending events during the week. The Festival is situated in Northern New South Wales, Casino is set in the heart of the Richmond Valley region on the banks of the Richmond River, 733 km north of Sydney and 256 km south of Brisbane.The Casino Beef Week Festival commenced in 1982. The first festival was small going for 4 days and having just 10 events, but introduced the concept that has made Casino Beef Week unique – cattle in the main street. Last year the Festival was celebrated in beautiful conditions by tens of thousands of people. The distinctive difference with the Casino Beef Week celebrations is the unique focus of the Festival on cattle and life on the land. Events such as Free Breakfast with the Butchers draw crowds of visitors seeking a fun rural experience. At this event over a half a tonne of meat is cooked on BBQ’s and served free to over 4000 people in the main street of Casino. Novelty events such as cow milking competitions and cow pat lotto are also popular during the Breakfast.On the main Saturday, the country comes to town, with a led steer and stud cattle competition followed by a live auction taking place around the town’s central point – the Mafeking Lamp memorial. The main streets are closed and filled with food stalls, entertainment stages, whip cracking, wood chopping, junior stockman and lady competitions, street entertainers, art and craft exhibitions and much much more. The grand parade of colourful floats takes pride of place in the afternoon and the crowd disperses to the rodeo at the nearby showground or spills out of the pubs and clubs to enjoy live music and comradeship – an energetic and vibrant show of united community.
