Usually it will be used when we read newspaper to figure

out if an article interesting or not

Skimming = reading fast and efficiently

Find main idea of each paragraph

Figure out the suitable title for the text

Determine content of the text based on title, first

paragraph and the last paragraph

Skimming works well to find dates, names, and places. It

also might be used to review graphs, tables, and charts.

Health Minister Nafsiah Mboi said on Friday that Indonesiaremained an endemic country for neglected tropical diseases thatcould cause disabilities and decrease the quality of human resources.

Neglected tropical diseases were poverty-related infectiousillnesses mostly affected the poor in developing countries, she said.

They[the diseases] are often neglected. Itstrue that they arenot so deadly but they can cause disabilities and create huge potentialeconomic losses, she told a press conference on the sidelines of atwo-day ASEAN seminar on neglected tropical diseases entitledClinicalpractice, guidelines for the strategy and management towardthe elimination of neglected tropical diseases in the ASEAN region.

According to the Health Ministry, five out of a total of 17neglected tropical diseases remained endemic in Indonesia despiteefforts to eliminate them. They include filariasis, leprosy,schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, and yaws.
