No organization’s structure or job descriptions will match exactly the jobs outlined in this survey. It is critical that participating hospital/clinics match their jobs as closely as possible. Our objective is to provide survey results that accurately reflect competitive pay levels for jobs involving work of a similar nature and performed at a similar skill level.

49048 ENGINEERING MANAGER Responsible for overall engineering functions of association.

49003 LINE SUPERINTENDENTDirects Working Foremen, Meter Technicians, and Service Personnel. Assists Operations Manager on studies of planning, research, policies, improvements, work progress, long-range plans, budget, general staff and facilities. Reports to Operations Manager.

49059 DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT/SUPERVISORManages the operations of a geographically defined portion of a consumer-owned electric distribution system, including maintenance and service, consumer-member and public relations, marketing and consumer collections. Supervises employees assigned to district.

49071 SUBSTATION AND METERING SUPERINTENDENTThis Position is a First-Line Supervisor. Responsible for the collection and documentation of data from equipment in the distribution system for use in trending and analysis of predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance issues. Oversees the programming and testing of various types of electronic equipment. Responsible for the administration, design, scheduling, installation, testing and commissioning of new substation equipment and SCADA equipment. Supervises activities including meter reading, collections, connecting and disconnecting meters and meter exchanges. Assists in administration, operation and maintenance of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. Develops and reviews substation and distribution one-line/schematic drawings. Typically requires a high school diploma and graduate of an approved electric distribution-training program and/or proof of a journeyman lineman card and a minimum 10 years experience in the utility field.

49006 LINE FOREMAN, WORKINGA Journey Lineman who typically supervises or directs the work of three or more employees.

49007 LEAD LINEMANA Journey Lineman who typically supervises or directs the work of one or two employees.

49008 JOURNEY LINEMAN Responsible for performing diversified work of erection and repair of distribution and transmission lines of all classes and voltage, including energized lines, and on structures and equipment involved in the distribution of electricity. Exclude anyone not qualified for “hot” work.

49009 APPRENTICE LINEMANEmployees in a formal training program for Journey Linemen who are not yet fully qualified as Journey or First Class Linemen.

49014 MAPPING TECHNICIANTypical duties include preparing and updating system maps, one-line sectionizing maps, and other maps as may be necessary. Performs necessary drafting duties as required by various departments such as flow charts, specification sheets, signs, etc. May supervise pole inventory. Work is done with computer-aided equipment.

49056 REGULATORY COMPLIANCE OFFICERResponsible for securing and analyzing regulations that affect the Association, including but not limited to OSHA, DOT, EPA, PCB, UST, Community and Employee Right To Know, SARA, and others that are or may be enacted by local, state or federal governments. Develops the necessary forms, records and other materials to assure compliance. Organizes training or seminars. Responsible for hazardous communication standard, including hazardous chemical inventory, employee information and training, material safety data sheets and labeling. Provides assistance for all regulatory compliance inspections.

49072 SUBSTATION TECHNICIANReports to Substation Supervisor. Performs all technical aspects of substation and technical field equipment construction, maintenance, operation, and installation. Conducts annual and pre-installation equipment testing and monthly equipment inspections. Installs substation communication systems and provides assistance to IT in troubleshooting communication systems. Works with a variety of equipment including; voltage regulators, reclosers, power transformers, circuit switchers, breakers, capacitator banks, CT’s, PT’s, battery bank systems, and protective relaying and controls. May assist Metering Technicians and Radio Technicians with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Typically requires high school diploma and completion of a qualified Substation Technician program with certification and a minimum 4 years of experience.

49015 METER TECHNICIANTests, calibrates, and repairs all types of watt-hour and demand meters, including polyphase meters and current transformers. Installs or oversees installation of polyphase meters and current transformers. Keeps records of meters tested. Keeps inventory stock of meters and parts and requisitions for replenishment. Makes voltage checks on the system. Assists in or makes load surveys. May read demand and substation meters. May make service calls on high bill complaints.

49016 METER READERReads meters to note consumption. Observes and reports changes in customer locations, meter tampering, power diversion and other irregularities. May occasionally collect delinquent bills. Does not connect or disconnect meters. Duties may include electric meters and electric metering equipment. Do not report independent contractors or part-time employees. Also see Meter Reader/Collector.

49060 METER READER/COLLECTOR In addition to the duties of the Meter Reader also connects, disconnects and does collections.

49017 EQUIPMENT OPERATOROperates specialized equipment used in electric line construction, maintenance and replacement such as a back hoe, derrick used in setting and removing poles, air compressor and other equipment mounted on digger truck, and trenching equipment.
