astwood City is located at the Libis area of Quezon City. It was launched in 1997 and has been developed by the Megaworld Corporation. Mega-

world Corporation is one of the largest residential condominium developers in the Philippines. Its objective is to provide the essence of “The Good Life”. The corporation aims to provide not only comfort to the resi-

dents but also make living enjoyable.

Eastwood City is said to be a commu-nity of its own. It offers complete establish-ments for living, working, playing, and shop-ping. Its land coverage is around seventeen to eighteen hectares with more than 10 luxu-ry condominium towers, high-class office buildings, and an IT park. Eastwood City Cyberpark is the first IT economic zone in the country that Philippine Economic Zone Authority gave a special status. A statue was built in honor of the IT industry that up-lifts Eastwood. So far, this is business side of Eastwood but as mentioned it is also a place for playing and shopping. This is where you would see what true leisure

means.

gadgets.

Eastwood has three main attractions, which are the Eastwood Mall, Eastwood City Walk, and The Eastwood Cyber and Fashion Mall. The Eastwood Mall is newest develop-ment that is located in the middle part of Eastwood. It is a four-level shopping mall with basement parking. Eastwood City Walk is where you will find the Philippine Version of Walk of Fame. People you loves to party would be certainly found here since this place is lined with bars and restaurants. Eastwood Cyber and Fashion Mall is the place you should go if you want to check and

buy latest technology and gadgets.

E

A Place for Fashion

At Eastwood there are a lot of shops to buy clothes whether you local or international. If you want proudly Filipino made clothes, there is Bench, Penshoppe, Folded & Hung, Fino, and many other shops. But if you want to follow in-ternational trend, there is Mark & Spencer, Man-go, Calvin Klein, and the 158 Designers’ Blvd., which is a mix of other international brands. Also Uniqlo would be available soon this year. Uniqlo is a Japanese casual wear designer, manufac-turer, and retailer. The clothes available here are for all categories and social groups such as age, gender, and occupation. Their clothes are universal, simple, and can be bought as low as

300 pesos.

A Place to Dine

Like clothing shops, there are varieties to choose from where you can dine at East-wood. If you’re stress at work or school and you want to have coffee break, there are coffee shops you can choose from. There is Star-bucks, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, UCC cof-fee, Mary Grace, Dome, and Caffe Bene, a Ko-rean caffe brand. Some of these shops also offer pastries, but there are pastry shops like Mrs, Fields, J.Co, and Krispy Kreme that you

can buy pasalubong.

Mostly lunch break takes up to an hour only so workers and students can opt to eat at fast food chains such as Jollibee, McDO, Chowking, and KFC. People who got tired from roaming at Eastwood can stop at food ki-

osk like Taters, Serenitea,

The Sandwich Guy, BTIC, Potato Corner, or Master Siomai. Also there are different

Asian and Western cuisine to choose from.

A Place of Entertainment

Everyone has different definition of entertainment and relaxation. For some it is simply by sitting in a park. Eastwood has a perfect spot for this people. The Open Park is a perfect place for them. It is not hot there due to tall buildings serving as a shade from the harsh heat and somehow it is always windy at Eastwood. While sitting at the park, people can also enjoy watching the colorful and powerful water show in tune with latest

music.

For people whose idea of entertain-ment is watching movies, Eastwood is also a place for them. At Eastwood, there are sev-en cinemas. All are above the ordinary mov-ie theaters with it fully carpeted theaters, plush and cozy seats but Cinema 5 and 6 and Ultra 7 Cinema are superb. These cine-mas have fully reclining seats with refillable popcorn and bottomless drinks served by butlers. Amazing Fact: At City Walk 2 Cine-ma ticket booth, there is a mosaic, which was created using more than 3,000 tiny

movie posters.

People whose recreational activity is to play games especially children, there is the Timezone, Carousel, and Push Cars for them. One the other hand, teenagers and adults can hang out at Paeng’s Billiards and Bowling and try these unusual sports while having bonding time with their barkada or

family.

notebooks that had a small schoolgirl on the cover, De La Salle file folder cases with green archers stickied on the the front, and even an Ateneo mug with a student on an ea-gle costume printed on the side. The items weren't found anywhere else in Eastwood. Curious, I asked what company the saleslady was working for. "'Specially Made For You' po gumagawa ng supplies namin. Printing com-pany po siya," she said. I asked why I haven't I heard of the company before and what it was doing on a stall instead of a store. "May bazaar po kasi. she replied. Carrying with me P800 worth of Assumption-designed school supplies, I promised to come back to ask more questions after surveying the place.

The Bazaar

I circled around the bazaar, looking at how it was structured. Each pillar in the mid-dle of the mall was surrounded by tables cov-ered in black cloth. The spaces between the pillars were wide enough, so the bazaar itself didn't seem tight to look like it was crowded. The salepeople sat around their monobloc chairs, waiting for someone to go to their

stalls. Others were content with call-ing out and asking for potential cus-tomers, saying "Hello po ma'am / sir, bili na po kayo!" At that time, the shoppers were quite few; no more than ten people gathered around the

pillar. Still, business was still selling.

Checking at the contents of the stalls, there were different kinds of knick-knacks, bags, keychains, and other things that were made by companies like "pop.junk.love" and "The Handmade Market". I saw stalls with trinkets, rings, necklaces with jade-like ornaments and de-signs. Other stalls had pouches laced with different colored beads,

t was just afternoon when I went to East-wood with my sister and my mom. Cars went in more than they went out, making it seem like the traffic was heavy. The streets were flooded with people going about their

business. Shops were often more than not filled, with the waiters and waitresses probably getting their hands full from the chock full of orders they were getting. Different performers with varieties of costumes were scattered along the street, shoppers gathering around them in awe, clapping and dropping coins on boxes for donations. In short, there was a lot of things happening around the place. We wandering inside the Eastwood Mall, trying to find something to scribble on my notepad when my sister ran straight ahead without warning, shouting "Mama! May As-sumption Antipolo notebooks sila o!" ("Mom! They have Assumption Antipolo notebooks here!"). We followed her and spotted a stall with school supplies neatly arranged on the table. These weren't just ordinary supplies; the designs were as if they were made with spe-cific demographics in mind: Assumption

attached with wooden colored flowers and plastic shells that were sewn together in a mesmirising pattern. Some had precious jewelry- silver necklaces, pearl earrings, diamond rings and gold bracelets were placed inside a protective glass. Most had handmade products like abaca bags, but were no less distinct and alluring than the other products sold in the bazaar. One in particular sold paintings drawn in great de-tail, with mixes of bright colors and broad and narrow strokes, each one no more unique than the other.

Behind the Scenes

Arming myself with the questions I needed, I went back to the saleslady who sold the school-themed school supplies,

who introduced herself as Ate "Roma".

Roma didn't exactly know when the Eastwood bazaar went started, but it did seem that it had been there for quite some time now. According to her, the companies in the bazaar were contracted to sell for four days every month. (And by some stroke of luck, I just happened to be there on the LAST day!) If they wanted to extend the contract, they had to wait for another week and occupy another four days, alt-hough that would be costly. The items that were sold also depended on who organized it at that time. That made every bazaar spe-cial; every month had a different and di-verse selection of goods- not just the one I saw on the stalls. The only restriction im-posed being that there wouldn't be anything that would compete with the mall's stores, which, of course, resulted in an unusual set of items being sold. When I asked about how the rent was priced, my jaws dropped as she went on on having to pay P4000 for every day

having to pay P4000 for every day spent on the stall! And that was just one stall. The bazaar had many. Piecing together the puzzle, the whole contract cost a whooping price of P16000 for every stall that was in there. I re-marked that it was impossible to pay for such an expensive amount, considering the prices of the items they sold. (While the jewelry costs up to P1700, the notebooks and keychains were usually had the price range of P50 - P200) To my surprise, she told me that they still reeled in a good amount of profit. Considering that East-wood is also a night mall, the evenings are when people fill the usually empty spaces in the establishment. That's when they gather around the bazaar, buying the knick-knacks and whatnot. True to her words, a few hours later, what was a nearly empty floor came bus-tling with activity. I even spotted a group of fa-miliar schoolmates checking the Ateneo-themed school supplies. Thanking her for being interviewed, I left, struggling to get out of the tides of shop-pers that went in. I thought to myself that might come back after a month, when the bazaar re-turns. Who knows? For all the unusual and unique things they sold there, I might find something I might like.

ver since junk foods, fast foods and all kinds of unhealthy recipes were invented, gluttony has been our primal sin. In addi-tion to this is the technology we have to-day. This technology promotes sloth which

also makes one gain weight. Instead of playing sports physically, we take control of the iPad. With gluttony and sloth, most of the world’s popu-lation comprises of Satan’s piglets. Luckily, in the latter months of 2013, adults but mostly teenag-ers have started to alter their lifestyle. The inter-net now overflows with motivational blogs and photos promoting this new lifestyle. It basically requires religious exercise, good sleeping habits

and healthy recipes.

It’s hard to keep track on this no-sweets and no-junk food rule in places you don’t take control of. Fortunately, Eastwood Mall in Libis has recently thought of a way on how to continue this diet in the extent of your home. They have launched events to attain physical fitness like Weekend Workouts brought to you by Fitness First and Curves. Not only do you lose weight, but also learn how to dance! Restaurants are tak-ing part of this trend as well. Now you can order fresh and healthy recipes in their menu if you ev-er decide on shifting to being vegetarian. Aside from the green stuff, nutrition is needed to keep your body sane. You can buy supplements and vitamins that support your healthy lifestyle in Healthy Options, Health Express and GNC – all found in Eastwood. Eastwood’s Wellness Cam-paign promotes healthy options as you change

for a better and fitter you.

Since other people cannot maintain this lifestyle due to lack of motivation or financial funds, Eastwood’s Wellness campaign is only un-til before the summer. If you want that beach

body, better take part of this campaign!

She settled her insecurities and decided to change her way of living. Denise weighed 169 pounds in High School. When she was asked about what inspired her to lose weight, she said “My insecurities about my body and Erwan Heussaf's life story.” Her new life-style comprises of healthy eating and exercise. “When you say clean eating, it does not mean you do not eat. You start cutting off portions and letting go of 'junk.' Also, you must exercise at least 3 times a week!” she adds. From overweight to average weight, she had lost 34 pounds in 10 months. Now, she feels much better and a lot more confident than she used to. In addition to the mental advantages, she can now

do strenuous activities. The results are truly amazing!

Mesclun Bistro, Café Via Mare, Agave Mexican Cantina and more can offer all certified as healthy by Nadine Tengco. Learn more about this healthy menu pro-

vided in the Eastwood Mall Concierge.

No More Excuses Aside from the Weekend Workouts offered, you can do a bunch of other activ-ities inside Eastwood City that can help you be healthier. Next time you visit the mall, have your pets tag along as the malls (old and new) promote an animal-friendly environment as long as you clean after your pet. Walk him around while wandering around Eastwood and in 30 minutes, you’ve already burned an aver-age of 107calories! No pet? No problem! Grab a pair of running shoes and put on your sports attire. You can run around in the entire Eastwood City and accomplish a maximum of 3-4 rounds in 30 minutes! Also, before you put yourself in a vulnera-ble state of choosing the wrong food, get a hold of yourself and choose restaurants that can attend to your health needs. I hope these tips will help sustain your

healthy lifestyle. Good luck!

Fitspiration As people nowadays have reached great-er heights in losing weight, it’s hard for them to stay loyal to this habit of ingesting on healthy foods and exercising regularly especially if they have just started. In times of weakness, feel free to go online and empower yourself with the help of your fitspiration. These people are the ones who have shown amazing results of their healthy lifestyle. Most of them inspire

you to stay or be fit through flaunting their

gaps (for girls).

Society had been harsh on Denise David.

It blinded her definition of true beauty.

s a kid, I often spoke of wanting to grow up. If Peter Pan had known me, he would have scolded me for

saying such words.

It is actually quite frequent that I see suited up men with clean and gelled hair, walking in such a rush and are too busy with their mobile phones that they do not even take the time to look around them. And, as frequent as I see these men, I also witness women in high-heeled stilettos and pencil skirts strutting in such a hurry as if they are part of the Victoria’s Secret fash-

ion show and dogs are chasing after them.

And the sight of these people made me wonder… is there really a child still hid-den in each one of us? I don’t think so. Be-cause by the looks of the people in this fast-paced world we live in, it seems that the

children in them… are gone.

But then, I met her. And, boy, did

she prove me wrong.

The Woman Who Proved Me

Wrong Upon taking a look at her, I am sure that the first thing you would notice is her nose. It is sharp and pointed, definitely beautiful (for a nose, that is). Basically, it is the type of nose eve-ry stereotypical flat-nosed Filipino would want. Then, you would notice her hair--- shoul-der-length, not too straight or too wavy, with a light shade of almond brown. The shape of her bright black eyes might remind you of almonds, as well. And, I must add, her cheekbones are well

-defined.

With this image of her in your mind, I am most certain you conclude that she is an elegant

and highly respected woman.

And, she is.

Carmela Audal is a Supply Base Manager who graduated from De La Salle University. As of January 2014, she is employed by Talent2 in Eastwood City. She spends an average of 8 hours a day at work, and she does tend to extend

her stay in the office.

By now, you probably imagine her walking around Eastwood City, crossing from side walk to side walk in her business attire, checking her phone by the minute, rushing to get to Techno Plaza II where the company she works for is situ-

ated.

And perhaps, you wonder the way I did, asking to yourself “is there really a child still hid-

den in this woman?”

The Girl She Really Is When asked, her friends described her as

“Si Mhela? Yun, sabog yun! Hahaha!” They see her as a fun-loving woman who knows how to have a good time. Despite her long working hours and the im-pression you would get from seeing her, there is still this little girl in her.

There really is.

Her favorite icon as a child was Sailor Moon, a well-known Anime character. And now that she is near-ing her 30s, everyone around her can still see Sailor Moon in her. How

so?

One, “Little Carmela” is adventurous. She is not

afraid of tripping and sliding all the way to the other street while participating in the Milo mara-thon. She does not care whether she sweats a

lot or gets bruises while doing this.

Two, she takes courage in going to differ-ent theme parks and riding roller coasters that are faster than you can say the tongue twister “Imagine an imaginary menagerie manager im-agining managing an imaginary menagerie” cor-

rectly.

Three, as often as she could, she tries new stuff. According to her, Eastwood City “offers constant change of choices”. This makes little Carmela as happy as Olaf, the snowman from Frozen, was when he got to experience summer. She gets to spend her breaks and after office hours in different restaurants, so she gets

to try new cuisines in Eastwood ever so often.

And, just like any kid, she never fails to find time to have fun. During her days off work, the little girl in Carmela is brought back to the scene. She would hang out in different coffee shops with friends, talk to them and reminisce. They try to avoid work topics as much as they could! (After all, who would want to spend a ra-

ther “chill” day talking about the stressful stuff?)

Indeed, Carmela Audal is a proof that

there really is a child hidden in each one of us.

A Lesson to Learn I guess we can all learn from her story

that there will always be a kid in each one of us. No matter how old you become, how stressful and busy your job becomes, and no matter how you mature you think you already are, the kid in

you will always be there.

And that kid will come out the moment

you need to become a kid most.

Now that I am nearing that phase of adulthood and, as much as I fear it, growing up, I understand why Peter Pan chose to stay a kid forever. Growing up is a trap. Do not leave the kid in you concealed in the darkest corners of

your persona.

I dare you to never grow up. Just grow

old, dear reader.

“And the sight of these

people made me wonder…

is there really a child still

hidden in each one of us?” Sourxe: faceook.com

Walk of fame is a project of German Moreno, the expense is from his own

pocket. There is no clear criteria for the stars to be immortalized in the Philip-

pine version of walk of fame. As long as a personality has shown excellence in

his field and has a big love and contribution to the Philippine showbiz indus-

try; years of experience is not an issue. Unlike in Hollywood where the induc-

tee must be the one to pay for his/her own star and must be at least 5 years

in the business.
