    bank in the Philippines through Global Grant funding

    Two table-top pasteurizer units improvised from rice cookers aredue to be replaced very shortly by a 4-liter compact pasteurizer de-

    signed & supplied by Ace Intermed of the United Kingdom.

    Two staff members of the Human Milk Bank office posewith the newly arrived modern pasteurizer.

    The human milk pasteurizer unit - main part of GLOBALGRANT Project GG#1529934 intended to modernizeand increase capacity of the HMB service of the Philip-pine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) - was deliveredo PCMC last 9 October 2015. The existing unitsare housed in rice cooker shells suitably adapted for the

    purpose.

    n early August, the Laminar Flow Cabinet, which isequivalent to a miniature “clean room” facility for staffhandling the human milk in containers before, during andafter the pasteurization cycle, was delivered and in-stalled by a Malaysian technician..

    The project had been first conceptualized by RC HolySpirit in RY 2013-14. The GLOBAL GRANT funding, ap-plied for by RC Holy Spirit D3780 and primary interna-ional sponsor District 3710 Korea, was then submitted

    to and approved by The Rotary Foundation during 2015 and is now in the process of implementation.

    Dengue Prevention

    This photograph shows a mother applying mosquito re-

    pellent to her child’s skin in order to prevent mosquitoes

    from biting.

    How to reduce your risk of dengue infection:There is no vaccine available against dengue, and there are no specific medicationsto treat a dengue infection. This makes prevention the most important step, and pre-vention means avoiding mosquito bites if you live in or travel to an endemic area.

    The best way to reduce mosquitoes is to eliminate the places where the mosquitolays her eggs, like artificial containers that hold water in and around the home. Out-doors, clean water containers like pet and animal watering containers, flower planterdishes or cover water storage barrels. Look for standing water indoors such as invases with fresh flowers and clean at least once a week.

    The adult mosquitoes like to bite inside as well as around homes, during the day andat night when the lights are on. To protect yourself, use repellent on your skin whileindoors or out. When possible, wear long sleeves and pants for additional protec-tion. Also, make sure window and door screens are secure and without holes. Ifavailable, use air-conditioning.

    If someone in your house is ill with dengue, take extra pre-cautions to prevent mosquitoes from biting the patient andgoing on to bite others in the household. Sleep under a mos-quito bed net, eliminate mosquitoes you find indoors andwear repellent!

    WAR vs. DENGUE:  HOW TO AVOID DENGUE

    PHILIPPINE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH reports almost 92,800 dengue casesfrom January 1 to September 19, 2015, higher by 23.5% than last year.

    DOH urges public to

    always practice cleanliness,

    eliminate all possible breeding places of mosquitoes, and

    seek early consultation for fevers lasting over 2 days.

    The Object of RotaryFirst formulated in 1910, the Object of Rotary is to encour-age and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy

    enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

    FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunityfor service;

    SECOND. High ethical standards in business and profes-sions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupa-tions, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as anopportunity to serve society;

    THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotar-ian's personal, business, and community life;

    FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding,

    goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business

    and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

    5 Avenues of ServiceBased on Object of Rotary, the Five Avenues of Service areRotary’s philosophical cornerstone and the foundation onwhich club activity is based:

    Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and en-suring the effective functioning of the club.

    Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve othersthrough their vocations and to practice high ethical stan-dards.

    Community Service covers the projects and activities theclub undertakes to improve life in its community.

    International Service encompasses actions taken to ex-pand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and topromote world understanding & peace.

    Youth Service recognizes the positive change implemented

    by youth and young adults through leadership development

    activities, service projects, and exchange programs.

    The Four-Way TestOf the things we think, say or do

    Is it the TRUTH

    Is it FAIR to all concerned

    Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER

    FRIENDSHIPS

    Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned
