Rotary, youth partners gather for 4th annual forum

anti-substance abuse and HIV/AIDS prevention

SEPTEMBER is YouthService Month

Sixty-five (65) Interactors and Rotaractors fromfourteen (14) Interact and Rotaract clubs at-tended the 4th Youth Forum on Anti-DrugAbuse and HIV/AIDS Prevention at the RedCross Building on a fine Sunday afternoon ofSeptember 21, 2014.

They were joined by eighteen (18) Rotarianswho supported the advocacy to achieve ZEROnew incidence of HIV/AIDS and drug abuseamong the youth in Quezon City. The forumwas organized and sponsored by RC HolySpirit in cooperation with the Quezon City RedCross.

Ms Janice Adolfo, a registered nurse, andHead of the QC Red Cross Community HealthServices engaged the young attendees in aserious, in-depth and spine-tingling discussion

on the truth about HIV and AIDS in the countryand the world, punctuated by amusing and in-telligent responses from the youth.

In a workshop, the attendees were groupedinto four for a fun exercise to test the youth ontheir knowledge of sex. The results evokedhilarious laughter and amusement, particularlyfrom the Rotarians present.

Presented to the audience was Lady Divine, a23-year old youth who has been found HIVpositive since 2009. He talked about how hecoped with his HIV-positive status, saying that

his parents accepted his being HIV pomore than his being gay. With just a yeaa half to finish his college course, he left sand volunteered to work as disseminaHIV/AIDS information and prevention witDepartment of Health.

A day after Tropical Storm Mario brought strong winds and heavyrains to the metropolis, President Harold Kim Maggay, Vice Presi-dent Kier Berce and Secretary Michelle Mae Estenzo of the Rota-ract Club of Holy Spirit joined fellow Rotaractors from RaCBalintawak, Camp Aguinaldo and Quezon City Central in RotaractDistrict calamity relief operations on September 20, 2014.

Led by DRR Sharlyn Que, they re-packed about 200 bags of reliefgoods at the Rotary Center and distributed the same to the flood

victims of Barangay Fairview in Quezon City.

Holy Spirit service projects are featured in UNTV radio program

Last Saturday, September 20, 2014, BC PresidentMarites Nepomuceno and PP Marcia Salvador werefeatured guests of PDG Jess Cifra, host of the UNTV-Radios La Verdad program called Rotary in Action.

The UNTV Radio La Verdad is a news and publicservice AM radio station which can be heard at a fre-quency of 1350kHz.

During the one-hour program, President Maritesspoke about the regular medical-dental missions con-ducted by RCHS for the benefit of indigent patientsresiding in barangays within Holy Spirit and Payatas.

She also mentioned recent projects like anti-denguespraying in hot spots in Barangay Holy Spirit and atthe clubs adopted elementary school, and also vari-ous planned projects and programs.

Meanwhile, PP Marcia provided some insights on theclubs history.

PDG Jess Cifra mentioned RCHS as exemplifyingone of Rotarys guiding principles, i.e. diversity, forhaving foreign members such as IPP Dr Eui BongJung and David Kim.
