AQUAPANEL Exterior Joint Filler – Grey

AQUAPANEL Joint Filler Grey into approx. 3.4 l of cold, clean water. We recommend the use of a 600 rpm stirring

machine. Use a clean mixing container and mixing tool.

Processing

Tools: Float/smoothing trowel/joint knife

Fill joints, place AQUAPANEL Tape and press in with a trowel. Allow the previous coating to dry or harden before

applying another coat if required. Also cover the screw heads etc.

Rectify any slight unevenness with a hand/swivel pole sander.

Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with water.

Joints: approx. 0.7 kg/m2

Working time

The material begins to harden approx. 45 minutes after stirring. Dirty mixing containers and tools, and high

temperatures or wind can shorten the working time. Do not use the material once it begins to stiffen.

Ceiling joint: approx. 18 minutes/m2 (incl. installation, screws and laying the joint tape).

Working temperature/climate AQUAPANEL Exterior Joint Filler Grey should only be applied to AQUAPANEL Cement Board panels once they have acclimatised to the ambient climatic conditions. The material, ambient and background temperature must not fall below +5°C.

340 ACOUSTIC AND INTUMESCENT MASTIC

– Manufacturer and reference: Knauf Intumescent & Acoustic mastic, by Knauf Drywall – Location: Two continuous beads applied above deflection head track and substrate perimeter, used at

junctions between partition(s) and adjoining structure for fire walling systems, and at penetration openings. – Apply as a continuous bead to clean, dry, dust-free surfaces, leaving no gaps. – After application of mastic, bulk fill gaps in excess of 6mm between floor and underside of plasterboard using

Knauf joint compound. Note: Special attention should be given to buildings were there is a requirement for an Airtight seal. The air tight line should be agreed prior to installation being undertaken.

515 SEALANT

- Sealant: Knauf Sealant. – Location: To perimeter junctions with walls, floors, and ceilings and around openings., sealing gaps and air

paths – Before fixing boarding, apply as a continuous bead to clean, dry, dust-free surfaces, leaving no gaps. After

application of sealant, fill gaps greater than about 6mm with Knauf Jointing Compound. Note: Special attention should be given to buildings were there is a requirement for an Airtight seal. The air tight line should be agreed prior to installation being undertaken. 695 BEADS/STOPS GENERALLY:

– Cut neatly using mitres at return angles. Fix securely using longest possible lengths, plumb, square and true to line and level, ensuring full contact of wings with background.

– After joint compounds/plasters have been applied, remove surplus material while still wet from surfaces of beads, which are exposed to view.

555 FIRE STOPPING

– Seal any gaps at junctions of linings and cavity barriers with perimeter abutments, service penetrations, etc. using tightly packed mineral wool or Knauf Intumescent & Acoustic Mastic, to prevent penetration of smoke and flame.

Workmanship: 310 WORKMANSHIP GENERALLY

- Plasterboard: To BS EN520 with exposed surface suitable to receive direct decoration - Fixing, jointing and finishing materials and accessories, to be as recommended by Knauf Drywall. - Operatives to be properly trained for partitioning and dry lining work. - Fix boards only in areas, which have been made weather tight. In order to prevent frost damage and moisture

ingress. - Cut boards neatly and accurately without damage to core or tearing of paper facing. Keep cut edges to a

minimum and position at internal angles wherever possible. Mask with bound edges of adjacent boards at external corners.

- Fix boards securely and firmly to suitably prepared and accurately levelled backgrounds. Set heads of fastenings in a depression; do not break paper or gypsum core. Finish neatly giving flush, smooth, flat surfaces free from bowing and abrupt changes of level. Do not use damaged boards.

– Handle and store materials in accordance with BS 8212, section 5. Do not use damaged boards. 325 PREPARATION OF SOLID BACKGROUNDS

- Complete all cutting, chasing, plugging and making good. - Remove all loose material by brushing thoroughly. - Remove all oil, grease, wallpaper, etc. by scrubbing with water and detergent. Rinse with clean water and

allow drying. - For adhesive fixed wall linings, adjust suction of background as necessary using primers or bonding agents

recommended for the purpose by Knauf Drywall. 380 MOVEMENT JOINTS FOR DRY WALL SYSTEMS

Note: Where continuous run of imperforated partitions/linings exceed 10000mm, it is recommended to control movement joint.

Manufacturer and reference: Knauf Movement control joint by Knauf Drywall - Maximum movement: 7mm - Fix through each flange using 13mm corrosion resistant staples at 150mm centres. Seal ends with Knauf

Sealant or acrylic caulk. - Support edges of plasterboard either side of joint with a continuous vertical line of adhesive dabs. - Refer to the „Knauf Drywall Manual‟ for application details. - Location should be agreed by the project Architect.

385 SERVICE PENETRATIONS:

- The dry lining contractor must liaise with other contractors to ensure that fire resistance and other specified performance requirements are not impaired by service penetrations.

- In particular: Fire Dampers. - Form framed openings accurately for grouped services, ducts, etc. allowing for Fire Batts / Fire Stopping

material to be installed [supplied and confirmed by others to meet performance requirement. - Provide insulation backings or Knauf Putty Pads to recessed electrical outlets and switches as recommended

by Knauf Drywall 560 JOINTS BETWEEN BOARDS:

- Tapered edged plasterboards: Lightly butted. Leave a maximum 3mm gap where cut/unbound edges occur. 565 VERTICAL JOINTS:

- Centre joints on studs. For partitions, ensure that joints on opposite sides of studs are staggered. - For two layer boarding, stagger joints between layers – Refer to Knauf Installation procedure.

570 HORIZONTAL JOINTS:

- Horizontal joints are not recommended in surfaces exposed to view except where the height of partition/lining exceeds the maximum available length of board. Agree positions of joints prior to commencement of works

- For two layer boarding, stagger joints between layers by at least 600mm. - Ensure that additional framing supports edges of boards. For two layer boarding framing must support the

outer layer. 305 COMPLIANCE WITH PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

- Provide Knauf Drywall laboratory test/assessment report(s) for: Acoustic performance, Fire Resistance and stability requirements - All materials, components and details used must be in accordance with the test/assessment report(s). If

discrepancies arise, obtain instructions from Knauf Drywall. 375 NEW WET LAID BASES

- Provide or ensure provision of a continuous strip of bituminous felt dpc or other approved material under partitions/free-standing wall linings, cut to the full width of the partition/lining.

445 CEILINGS:

– Fix boards to ceilings before walls and partitions. Fix boards with bound edges at right angles to supports and with ends staggered in adjacent rows.

475 METAL FURRINGS FOR WALL LININGS

– Install using components, accessories and methods recommended by Knauf Drywall. – Set out Metal Furrings vertically at the specified centres and adjacent to angles, openings, movement joints,

etc. Maintain centres of Metal Furrings across openings. Bed in 200mm long Knauf Plasterboard Adhesive dabs at each end of the Metal Furring and thereafter at 450mm centres. Bed short lengths of Metal Furring horizontally to provide continuous support to top and bottom edges of boards.

– Accurately align all Metal Furrings to a true, vertical plane. Install additional Metal Furrings where necessary to accept junctions with partitions. Use a continuous line of Knauf Plasterboard Adhesive to ensure that there are no gaps across the cavity.
